I have the build doc for the Laserwolf. If you still need it just shoot me a message!

Then you'll have 2 extra MN3005 you can use on another project!

AFAIK the dig dug outputs 0 to 5 volt at the cv out, it's what I understood from the build doc anyway. That's a pretty common value to interface with external modules. Was planning to try it out once I build the dig dug, on my ehx memoryboy dlx for example. Will be interesting to see how you manage.

Open Discussion / Help me with this fuzz tone
July 26, 2017, 04:00:40 PM
Hi all,

I have a question regarding this song by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. I'm very interested in what you guys make of this tone; what pedal/effect/amp do you hear?

Here's the link:

Ever since I saw the episode of True Detective where this features in the ending 2 years back, the guitar tone on this song has stuck in my head. Especially that of the guitar solo that starts around 1:10.

Thanks a lot and looking forward to your thoughts! ;D

A new iteration of this course has started on June 20th. I've signed up, is anybody joining me? 😆

Maybe it's in one of the zip archives in this directory? http://www.madbeanpedals.com/projects/PorkBarrel/

I can definitely recommend it and it can't hurt to try. But I would find a real life teacher if I were you. You might feel the need to talk to someone about questions that you have.

Build Reports / Hipster fuzz face
March 08, 2016, 11:24:17 AM
Here's my hipster build. It's my first 1590a build. The babyboard build guide proved valuable and everything fit inside, even the huge 2N3440 can. I wanted to try a silicon fuzz face, tried different trannies and eventually settled on a 2N3440 in Q1 and a 2N3904 in Q2, with an hfe of 90 and 200 respectively.

The thing sounds great, I was amazed with the cleanup. It has some great overdrive and distortion sounds! I'm gonna play around a bit with some cap values to voice it especially for my tele /Marshall setup.

I found out that the trannies have a huge impact on the sound and noise. The really high gain BC109C sounded way too gainy and compressed to me. I had a BC107B that was noisy and dark sounding. I also liked a couple of BC550B with hfe of about 280.

Nice bonus: while testing some high gain trannies I suddenly heard jazz music coming through, it was tuned to some jazz radio station in Bucharest! Which is over 2000 kms from Holland so that was fun. Once it was boxed there was no noise or foreign radio stations anymore [emoji1]

Sounds like an octave fuzz to me. So you could try the Eagle Claw Fuzz or an Octavia-like circuit.

Introductions / Hi from the Netherlands
February 18, 2016, 06:22:28 AM
Hi everybody, I've been on the forum reading for some time already, I think I should introduce myself now ;)

I'm from the Netherlands and have always been a tweaker, whether it be cars, computers, guitars, amps or pedals. I built my first two pedals in 2009 (an SHO on vero, and a BYOC opticomp). Though I wanted to continue doing this and discover some new tones, other things came in between (children, work, etc.) so plans got shelved. Over the past year I made lots of new plans for projects (the builds I see on this forum are really inspiring), collected some pcb's, and I'm already happily building a few pedals. So looking forward to posting some build reports soon! :)

I'm also interested and I'm from Utrecht ::)

Great that you chime in Jon, so is the input impedance of the cardinal determined by the pulldown resistor R1? I thought it would be Q1.
