I've posted this before, but I'll do it again since it's topical:

In college, I was in a dorm that paired each local student with an international student. There was a gang of kids from Hull University, and I spent a lot of time (practically all my time) with them. I learned a lot of good slang terms (and just general vocabulary differences) from that lot. But fanny wasn't one of them. So in January of that year (second semester), there was a cold snap and lots of ice all over campus. NC is gash at dealing with any sort of snow/ice, so the whole place was like a skating rink. I see one of the Hull girls walking toward the bus stop outside the dorm, and she slips pretty hard. Flies right up in the air and lands on her....arse. So I hurried over and helped her up, and then said, "Are you okay? Looks like your fanny took the brunt of the fall."  Man, the look on her face was priceless. I knew I had said something wrong, I just couldn't figure out what it was. Had a good laugh over it later, but she was cross with me for a bit.

Priceless!

Very nice build and story too. I found out about the American use of the word fanny when an American colleague was telling me about a fight he got into and said " the guy pushed be back and I fell straight on my fanny"  I spent the next 30 seconds wondering if he was some sort of mutant transsexual.

Haha, love it. I can't help but smirk whenever I hear "fanny pack".

General Questions / Re: Scavange or restore??

Yeah I'm leaning that way myself, loving the service notes but that circuit diagram hurts my head.

I think she'll stay as she is for now, cleaned up inside and out of course.

Hit the pots with some Inox and you should be right to go.

Sorry for being dumb but what's Inox? (I'm very new round here and google wasn't very helpful)

General Questions / Scavange or restore??

I've got an old Boss DE-200 which has been considerably ignored for the last 10+ years. Amazingly it still works... Well kinda, the pots are crackly and it can be a bit hit and miss with some of the switches but it's defiantly usable. The question is, do I go ahead and try fixing her up or do I dive in with my desolderer and grab all the awesome little bits she's got hidden away in there?

Build Reports / Epic Phany (Big Muff)
June 08, 2017, 01:16:55 AM
Here is my latest build (3 and counting), the name comes from a French mate of mine who overheard some woman talking about how she'd had an epiphany to which he turned round and asked (in his heavy french accent) "excuse me, did you just say you have an epic fanny?". I don't think she was too pleased... Anyway, he told me this about the same day as I'd just ordered this kit (it's a green russian btw) and the rest is history. For the American among you (I'm guessing that's most of you), "fanny" in the UK does NOT mean your butt.

No water slide or anything fancy here, I just ripped off ehx graphics (please don't sue me  :P) and got them printed on to some fancy sticker paper, I was skeptical but IMO it turned out pretty nice.

I spent an eternity trying to get the wire length down I've lost count of how many times she's been in and out of her box.

I will echo, I love the socket for your socketed wires, imma have to use this idea. Tell me, are you a fellow bass player?

I dabble with the old bass but rockin' lead is where i'm most at home

Thanks for all the comments Matts.... and the other guys as well  ;)

I was a bit worried after I posted that because I spent a while going through all the other builds on here and got totally blown away by them, there really are some amazingly talented guys round this place.

Build Reports / First build!

Hello, I'm brand new around here and I just thought I'd share my first build I did a couple of weeks back with you geniuses. I'm guessing most of you don't need to be told but it is a very simple Bazz Fuzz built from a kit... I call her Dave.

I know I went overboard with the sockets but this was my first (I'm on to my 4th now) and I was being needlessly overcautious about frying things (even the caps!?!), I'm also cringing at the length of some of those wires but hey we live and learn right!? The soldering is a bit meh and I was having real trouble getting the wires on the jacks but this was my first time ever with a soldering iron on a pcb and I was pretty pleased with the results.

I let my daughter loose on it for the "graphics" which was painful at first but now I'm actually digging it.

I've got to say that the moment that led came on was just one of the best feelings, this pedal building thing is awesome!
