Open Discussion / Favorite Big Muff combos
August 28, 2018, 02:27:52 AM
Hey everyone!

Ive previously completed a crazy big muff project where I shoved a wolly mammoth, nyc big muff, green ringer, and a jfet boost (Picture attached somewhere in the post hopefully, if it works; if not, here: https://imgur.com/pU85mMx)

Out of a fit of madness I decided to do another one and see if I could shove more in there. I wanted to see what your favorite things to stack with a big muff were. I was thinking an escobedo duende jfet boost (JHS Mini bomb), the NYC B.M., a fuzz factory, and a green ringer possibly. Any other suggestions? I think if I stagger the footswitches with 3 up, 2 down, I can get 5 in there easily, so I have one spot left.

Thanks for the other suggestions m-kresol. Its pins 10, 12, and 2.

I have no LFO. The only pot that really does anything is the dimension pot. Anything with the lm324 isnt working, including the rate led

Quick question for everyone-- My voltages all match except for the lm324, which is low-- around .3v. *However*, when I pop it out of the socket, the voltages match perfectly. Problem with the chip Im guessing?

Those builds are clean!

I need to reorder 1 of those fv-1 builds soon. I think when I was trying to get my chip soldered on it got cooked a little too long and now it has some real nasty clipping to it, even at low levels. I love what I hear from it currently though!

Currently trying to make a semi original big muff pcb.  Basically just taking a muff and adding every possible mod I can get in there. So hi/low pass filters, active 3 band eq, diode switching and lifting, maybe some circuit bending drone footswitches.

Anyone have any favorite b.m mods I should look into?

Build Reports / Re: octagon FV-1

Thanks for all the help guys! I got it working with the help of Robert from pedalpcb and a friend with a hot air station. Despite the fact that i had reflowed with my soldering iron, it still didnt work until we hit it with the air. Im getting sounds out of it, but a fair bit of white noise and some nasty clipping when I strum too hard. Gotta experiment more. Im gonna test out some different op amps and see what that does for me.

Im loving the sounds im getting out of this pedal. Dont think it will be able to kick my hall of fame off quite yet, but would be quite nice in the effects loop of a delay Im planning on building in the near future--if I can solve the current issues with it.

Cant recommend pedalpcb enough though! Robert was a huge help with his support.

Got this one soldered up, but the nothings getting past the fv-1 chip. The Analog mix and anything up until the fv1 sounds fine, but Im getting nothing out of the outputs of the fv1 when I probe pin 28. Any chance I could get some voltages from someone who has completed their build?  ;D

How is the decay/travel on the reverbs? Im looking for something to replace my hall of fame and just want to make sure that I can get the really looong reverb trails that I like. I usually use the "Big room with a view" toneprint and will sometimes bump up the time up to 7-10 seconds.

General Questions / Potentiometer sockets?
April 12, 2018, 01:07:17 PM
Hey all,
Anyone know of a quick way to switch out pots? Hopefully like a sleeve that just fits over the lugs. Google has been a bust for me so far. Probably just dont have the right search term or something dumb. Im a/b-ing a stock circuit and a modified version  and want to have something quicker than desoldering and resoldering the lugs. Thanks!
