Thanks for all of the information on this. A lot of it is above my head but it is interesting to learn about. It seems like the short answer to my question of an existing PCB similar to a PH-2 is; there isn't one, haha. The Duo-Phase that was mentioned looks neat but it is massive. I guess I really want a compact PH-2 style phaser I will have to learn a lot more.

Open Discussion / Something Similar to Boss PH-2
May 17, 2021, 01:54:15 PM
Hey everyone. I'm interested in building a phaser similar to the Boss PH-2. I find the really resonant 10/12 stage phaser sounds that Mike Einziger from Incubus gets to be really cool. Anyone know of a company that makes a PCB along those lines? Doesn't have to be an exact clone of the PH-2, just some sort of analog 8, 10 or 12 stage phaser that gets those big resonant tones and is in the same vein as the PH-2.

Thanks for the compliments folks. The graphics process was pretty straight forward. I created the graphics with a transparent alpha channel. Then the laser cutter cuts out anything on that alpha channel, leaving behind the white. The annoying part is once it has been cut you have to sit with a sharp little knife and some tweezers and carefully pick out all the little pieces that have been cut, without ruining the parts you want to keep. Then you put some transfer tape over top, then stick it to the pedal. I specifically went with white since you can't get white from a printer.

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. With some troubleshooting help from Madbean members (shout out again to Matmosphere), I just finished this today. I really like how it turned out. It's mostly stock except that the boost circuit has it's own footswitch and LED. The stock build also has the boost level on an internal trimpot but I changed it to an external pot. It sounds great. Super meaty and heavy. Graphics are laser cut white vinyl with clear coat.

SOLVED. Hi MTK. Thanks for the help. I rewired the switch and got things sorted out over the weekend. The diagram on the left was actually one given to me from Coda but he just drew it up quickly for me so he must not have realized the switch needed to be rotated. All good. Matmosphere was able to catch it and help me out. I appreciate the help though. Thank you everyone for having a look.

SOLVED. I was able to rewire my boost switch without any damage and everything is working perfectly now. Thanks again to Matmosphere for the help. I really appreciate it. Just need to get my graphics onto the pedal now. I will post some pics in the Build Report (if that is the right place (new to the forum)) section once I'm finished.

SOLVED. Matmosphere helped me out. I just had my boost switch wired incorrectly.

I sat down and had a good look at it and I was able to wrap my head around what's going on. Hopefully I can get everything re-soldered without wasting an expensive switch. Thank you so much for the help. I really appreciate it. I hope that I can get to the point where I can pay it forward and help out someone else. I will work on the pedal this weekend and I will let you know if that solves all of the problems.

Would this be correct?

Here is a quick diagram that I made to show the switch rotated 90

Thanks for looking at his for me. It wouldn't be the most fun thing in the world to rotate everything but if that's what has to be done, so be it. I currently have it wired according to this diagram that Benoit gave me. Is his diagram incorrect?

Hi Matmosphere. Thanks for the reply. Here is a better shot of the switch wiring. The main pedal and switch is working (left). The boost section switch is on the right. None of the bottom row lugs are connected on that switch. I wired it up using the wiring diagram in the previous post.

Ok sounds good. I put everything into the Tech Help page. Very new to the forum thing.

Build doc and wiring diagram.

1) Project: Black Hole from Coda Effects
2) Boost not working - see below for details.
3) Tried poking around with an audio probe but not really sure what I'm looking for or what I'm doing haha
4) Added footswitch and LED for boost according to Benoit from Coda Effects, boost 100k trimpot replaced with 100kA external pot (pot with red, white, and grey wires in pictures)

Hello. I am very new to the whole forum thing. I am currently working on a Black Hole from Coda Effects build and I am having an issue.

The main part of the pedal works perfectly but the issue I'm having is that the boost section is not working. I have it wired to a 3PDT footswitch as well as an LED. I also turned the 100k boost trimpot into an external pot with a knob. When I hit the footswitch for boost, the LED turns on but all sound cuts out. The other weird thing is that as I turn up the 100k pot the LED will dim. Pictures included as well as full build doc, as well as additional boost section wiring diagram which was given to me by the excellent Benoit from Coda.

If you have any ideas on what may be wrong I would really appreciate it. Cheers.
