Thanks for the response! I got busy and haven't had a chance to follow up since.

Putting a 5.1k resistor in R5 got me closer. The full sweep of the bias now gives me a range of -5.2 to -6.1v.

SmallBear did include a card with some resistor values, but they didn't include the resistors (which is weird, because they included resistors with the Rangemaster transistor I had in the same order, and also when I built a Woodstork a while ago). I don't have the values on hand because I build infrequently. I'll order those when I have some free time. I assume that should probably help.

I'm working on the Black Horse Effects "1968" (a Rangemaster + a Fuzz Face with an external bias knob similar to Analogman's Sun Face). I'm using some matched Ge transistors from Small Bear for the Fuzz Face side, and the circuit has an internal 50k trimpot, and uses a 5kC external pot for the bias control.

I'm having trouble getting the Q2 collector close to -4.5v. Even with the bias controls, my is -7.71v to -6.53v. Because the circuit uses those bias controls, I decided to use the stock resistor values on the build doc:

R2: 33k
R3: 470r
R4: 100k
R5: 2k7

Do I need to change any of these values to get the Q2 collector value closer to -4.5v? (I did socket R2-R5 in case I needed to make changes.)

I absolutely dig the Woodstork circuit. Of the four fuzzes I've built, it is by far my favorite. It's an integral part of my rig.

Awesome tones! What's the drive / fuzz you're using in the demo?

Are you using ink stamps for that finish?

That is my question too.  Ink stamps?  Or stencils?  If they are stamps, which ones are they?  (i.e. can you post a link?  I am looking to buy stamps and I like that font)

I used these cheapo letter stamps ($7) and StazOn permanent ink ($10). I can't find a link to the exact type of letters, but you can find all sorts of alphabet letter stamps on Amazon for around $10.

I started building guitars about a year ago and a lot of pedal stuff sat at the back of the workbench for a while. I had a few unpopulated boards, a few spare enclosures, and a bunch of leftover parts from previous orders. In an attempt to clean stuff out, I was like, "Well, I shouldn't let this stuff go to waste!" This weekend, I finished two new builds and a re-build.

From left to right, it's the Stutr tremolo, the Woodstork fuzz, and the Glam chorus. I built the Stutr and the Glam over the weekend. Both are cool and I dig the sounds within. (Sidenote: The Glam reminds me a little of the modulation feature in the Multiplex Jr. delay, which I love. I assume it's because they both use the PT2399 that there's some sonic similarity?)

I built the Woodstork back in 2016, but fried it six months ago when I forgot my 1-spot and borrowed my bandmate's multi-voltage wall adapter. After realizing that there were too many parts I'd have to replace, I just bought a new board and started over (reusing the same enclosure and the Ge transistors). Once I had it working, I was like, "WHY DIDN'T I FIX THIS EARLIER?!?" I absolutely love how that fuzz sounds in my rig.

The art on the enclosures isn't anything exceptional. Overall, this weekend I was reminded of how much I enjoy building pedals. I still have a few boards left, and I hope to get those finished hopefully by the end of the year.

4/5: I spent an hour reading about the Univibe circuit on R.G. Keen's site. I didn't totally comprehend everything, but I was able to figure out that there must be a problem in the LFO / Lamp driver section. I got out the audio probe and found that R46 had gone bad.  Once I replaced it, the lamp started pulsing again. Awesome!

Random question: what would cause a resistor to go bad? Has anyone had this happen in the Harbinger before?

3/31:

I swapped out the Speed pot and the lamp still doesn't blink. It lights up when plugged in, but the lamp doesn't blink. Any thoughts? What could I be missing?

Update 12/10. I've been following Axeman's troubleshooting feed here: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=24161.0 , and I've been trying to problem solve on my own.

The rate LED still blinks, but the lamp does not. Thinking that transistors Q11-13 might be the problem, I swapped them out and put in new ones. This did not solve the issue. Is there a way to check if the rate pot is bad?

I'm a little puzzled because I gigged heavily with this pedal on my board since the summer of 2014.
