Build Reports / Re: Valve overdrive EF 86 / 2x 12AU7
January 28, 2024, 10:54:47 AM
Sorry for bumping this Very old thread obviously but does anyone have information regarding the EF86 boost? I've an EF86 channel in my amp and have acquired too many EF86/6267s. I'd be interested into looking into EF86 boosts if anyone has any information.

According Kit Rae's Tube Driver page the earlier were known to use long smooth plate EI's often rebranded for bk butler or chandler. In 2006 he switched to the Beijing "Golden Dragons" with just BK written on them. I assume he's referring to the square foil getters Chinese tubes that were made in Beijing. Not sure what he uses now.

At the moment I'm using a NOS RCA tall black plate 5963 which is a 12au7 varient. They can be had at a bargain. I use it to tame the gain but it still gets suprisingly heavy.

Here is my effectslayouts.com Blue Cal Dual Drive, it is a sweet two in one overdrive. This is also the debut of my Youtube Channel where I will be posting videos every other Wednesday to show off some builds and shitty guitar playing.

Here is the pedal

Here is the demo

Sorry to bump an old thread but do you or anyone still have the project files for this? It doesn't appear to be up anymore. Thanks in advance.

Wow! Stellar build inside and out! I've got a few questions regarding this.

1. What type of "core drill" machine would be needed to do the fine circles like that? Do you have access to one, made one, etc..

2. Exactly what brand and color paint did you use for the blue?

3. Could you post a pic of the ink stamps you use AS WELL as the ink you use? I've been to several hobby shops but can't ever figure out which to get, whether I'd be able to stamp a word in a STRAIGHT even line, what type of ink and/or color to get and if any other accessories are needed!

4. Last, does ANYONE know of a PCB available for this or possibly willing to do one? I'm sure it'd be a pretty big seller. The G2 would also. I've haven't attempted a vero build close to this size nor do I have the time.

Thanks in advance!

General Questions / Re: GFS Electronics
July 09, 2013, 06:27:42 AM
I'm not sure how many there are. I only know, or have read, that there the original which has the white knobs and full sized components and they later versions are smd. The latter having black knobs. I'm pretty sure the one I have is one of the first versions. It's old atleast. I will have to search my bookmarks that shows the mod used and compare pcbs.

Have their Black Max Distortion which is in the baby boom series. Took it apart to see if it really used "hi-fi" componenets and whether or not they were smd and to see if I could tell what pedal it is and I'm almost positive it's a Rat clone with LM308 chip and 3 different clippin options. Think I paid 30 for it. Money well spent imo as I can barely build one for that plus labor. Just wish I was good enough or had the patience to trace it so I could do a few mods that I do on original Rats.

Also won a Joyo California which is basically a "Mesa in a Box" tone. Had 6 pots. The voice pot made the pedal very versatile. I got it for around 40 and no complaints although I sold it.

Last overseas, or latest, I bought used of ebay was a rehoused Joyo Ultimate Drive "OCD clone" for about 30 after I read about Freekish Blues Alpha Drive scandal, buying these for 30, rehousing, relabeling with minor changes if any and selling them close to 200.00 I remember seeing a mod for it but haven't done it yet. I will say the pedal doesn't sound like my OCD. Seem's like there is more gain and output as well as more woofiness on the LF setting which is what I used to keep my OCD on with Level around 3 and gain around 9. So the pots have gotta be a different value.

Audio/Video Demos / Re: Hamlet Delay demo

Sounds great! Hopefully we can expect to see this in the future. I've always enjoyed your playing. I about wracked my brain around 4:30 in the video trying to figure out how you were get that sound and chords at that position until I noticed the capo!  ;D Great riff though is that one of your own?

Those look fabulous! Mind sharing your procedure for applying these materials?

Does anyone mind posting or emailing me a diagram of this with 3pdt, 2pdt and with wiring board? I've always been interested how people do this. I think I understand but a picture says a whole lot more to me. I'm also interested in tri color leds since that's the only ones I've seen at smallbear.

Also, which wiring board do you guys usually use considering you use one and also where do you guys get your multicolor leds?

Any help would be appreciated. I think a drawing of this should be a template.

Hi guys first post here. There's still ALOT I need to learn but I'm currently building Madbeans Slambox in the the same housing as the Neutrino, "Eternity" also from Madbean, but my question is there anything I can sub for the Zeneer on the Slambox? I stocked up on my parts from smallbear but forgot the Zeneer diode. RadioShack only has like a 5.6 or something like that which I did go ahead and buy but I was going through some other layouts of the SHO and I found one verified using two 1N4148's in D1 and 2 instead of Madbeans suggested 1n4001 and 9.1 Zeneer.

Simply put...is it ok to use other Diodes here? Also, I was under the impression that 9v zeneers were used for polarity protection or overload. Again I'm a newb.

Thanks in advance.
