General Questions / Re: LM78L05 at 18V
« on: August 08, 2022, 11:21:15 AM »
Remember that heat is generated by current draw. The LM-series (I believe) is rated to about 1-1.5A. If your circuit is going to be drawing less than 100mA then there should be nothing to really worry about. If you are pulling close to the max then it may be a concern.

Best way is to put them in a circuit you know works.

Agree. These BBDs and associated Clocks should be plug and play. Not too much to them. If the circuit works, simply remove the Clock or BBD and replace with suspect IC. Much of the "problem" is verifying that the circuit is 100% working prior to using it as a test bed.

LOVE to see this type of pedal philanthropy. Well done sir and fantastic builds!

This smells like a bad connection issue. Suggest you use the DMM to check connections in the Drive portion of the circuit (everything coming off of Pins 6 & 7 of IC1)

My guess is that you will find a bad solder joint or bad/broken connection/trace. Also check your resistor and cap values are correct.

Good Luck  ;D

General Questions / Re: Tour bus power

How does that get accomplished, is there an adapter I guess?

Typically, you could (at the cheapest level) use some 1N400X diodes to smooth the AC. Another option would be to use a FWBR and some filtering caps.

For the DEFX project noted above, the AC is smoothed, filtered, and fed into regulators to provide + and - 15VDC. Its in the schematic if you want to have a look.

Nice work as always!!

The members of the illuminati and a select group of others will be getting one of these boards to build.

Open Discussion / Hot Air Rework Station recommendations??
« on: June 22, 2022, 09:37:31 AM »
Thinking about getting a Hot Air Rework station for SMD work (light work.. nothing intense)

Anyone recommend something that is not gonna break the bank?

Thanks!

Might help to list the seller name or shop name. Might be more than one "component shop in Devon, UK"

They do seem to be losing subs lately, for myriad reasons.  The massive amount of competition from Disney and Apple has hurt them a bit, as well as a few other things.

The fact that they are one of the (if not THEE) most expensive streaming service is probably the biggest factor.

I have heard (and what works for me) is to think of a very short commercial jingle over and over for a short time. Works every time.

My go to is "Byyyyyyy Menon" from the old deodorant ads.

Mike,

So sorry to hear about this brother  :'( It sounds like things are rough right now but, you have everything you REALLY need in your family as long as they stay healthy and you all stay together! Congratulations on the twins! I bet they are a handful right now but you will all get through the rough times.

As for the issues you are facing with respects to your home.... MAKE SURE YOU INVENTORY AND LIST EVERYTHING THAT WAS DAMAGED. Clothing, nic-naks, pictures, tools, gear.... EVERYTHING. Make sure you (or anyone who is investigating for you) get proper and adequate valuation for the items. If there is one thing that I have learned in dealing with insurance companies and claims it is that they will ALWAYS try to low ball you and get out of paying for ANYTHING.

Good Luck brother! You have always been a great forum member and I have personally benefitted from your generosity. If you need anything that I can assist with, feel free at any time to reach out! I would advise any other forum member who has the means to assist as well. Mike is one of the good guys!

Guessing that Q1 and Q2 are on the other side of the board.

« on: May 19, 2022, 12:59:46 PM »
Looking at the datasheet, it lists the resistor in series with the delay pot at Pin 6. Mind you that the datasheet says "External Resistor having a value of 10K to 50K ohms may be used. On the datasheet they list a 20K pot with the "External Resistor" so I do not know if you have to account for the pot's max value along with the external resistor.
Mind you that the higher you go, the higher the THD goes too.

So it comes down to probably the most common problem in my bench, builder error!

Welcome to the club!  ;D

Check ALL of your resistor values in the circuit. Verify that they are the proper values in accordance with the build document.
