Open Discussion / Small & 'Weird' Effects
July 01, 2020, 08:07:18 AM
Hi,
Fixing up my mates broken Bad Stone has given me the bug to start up this hobby again (will see how long that lasts).

I want to put a little something extra in the package when I send his Bad Stone back so, any suggestions for any small and weird effects I could build up and gift them?

Cheers

General Questions / Build Docs - MiniTaur V3.1
July 01, 2020, 06:30:00 AM
Hi,
It's been a while since I've build anything and I'm looking for build docs for old unfinished projects.

Does anybody have build docs for the MiniTaur V3.1, I'm pretty sure it's a PickDropper 1590A Klone.

Thanks

Thank you, obviously your stuff looks impeccable as always.  I've just moved house so it's been nice this week to be able to cook some decent food after weeks of rummaging around boxes.

I'm pretty damn jealous of your butane burner, I'm Chinese and it just looks perfect for asian food, our new house currently has an electric ceramic hob, my wok is feeling pretty neglected right now :(

Got around to reading through everything. I see it's a few mm shorter than the bs, looks nice!

Would definitely make top mounts easier, I squeeze them into the normal 1590B Eddystone equivalents atm.

I probably shouldn't post because I haven't read any of the above posts or the link [emoji14]

Buuutttt, isn't there already a taller 1590b, i think it is 1590bs (or maybe I'm talking bs)

General Questions / Re: External DC jacks

If you're still set to order within the UK:

Couldn't find any mini DC's with external nuts though, only metal ones.

This has got me thinking actually.  Is there such thing as mini DC jacks like the Lumberg ones but with the nuts externally?

Sorry to hijack.

I'm in the UK too and I have RS and Farnell Trade counters just down the road from me and shipping from Tayfa really isn't that bad.

Just stock up on pots and use a discount code, it's still cheaper.

Hope that helps.

Open Discussion / Anodised metal knobs
July 16, 2016, 04:01:58 AM
Hi,
I've been looking for knobs similar to the chase bliss audio ones which look like they might be anodised metal ones from the pictures(?)

Any ideas where I may be able to get some? If they're push on ones for knurled knobs, even better.

I'm in the UK so have already looked at Farnell, RS, etc. but didn't have much luck for the shaft size and length we're all used to using, though I could have easily missed them.

Cheers,
Marcus

I like top mount in 1590b or side on 1590a.  I use the Lumberg jacks too, it's not really difficult to fit it in, although it's usually better to have pots above the PCB so the knobs can go a little higher if there are more than one row of them.

Main reason for this is the obvious space saving but also I can use the Eddystone equivalents of the boxes which are cheaper!

Open Discussion / Re: NAD - also a problem :(

Also, I want to order some new valves anyway for the the thing but I don't have a clue what I should get, so many brands.... don't want to pay for something I'm not even going to notice.  Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, RG's order of suspicion was correct.  After all that I think one of the valves is dodgy.

Taking the chassis out of the cab meant I could play with no problems so it had to be the vibrating causing something to go awry.  Poking around I got weird noises when I got to the tube socket for v1.

Thought it was solder joints.  Reflowed, no change.

I swapped the ecc83's around and I got a different type of buzzing each time like being able to alter the volume of it or not. Tapping the valve that was initially in v1 made noises each time.

Put a known working valve from my old amp in and it works again!

Gonna put it all back together and crank it a bit to see if the problem returns or not.  That might have to wait for the weekend unless I get home from work early enough.

I want to thank everyone again for your help and insight!

Also, I took some voltages around B+, X, y and z on the schematic. My voltages are all about 10v more than in the service manual.  Not entirely sure if that's within correct range or not.....
