Not sure exactly what would fit the bill but I totally want to here how a cello sounds with a violet rams head Muff now. 

Maybe it sounds like a Violin Ram's Head??

I did pick up a rat board as well,  and have an IC Muff in the pipeline, so those will be tested for the spot as well.  I'm really looking forward to the drivemaster though.  I think the 3 band eq will help immensely.

Holy smokes Aion Electronics has exploded since I've browsed there last! I bought a few boards from him when he first launched with 5(?) projects. I'll probably put in an order for a few with him now too!

Ohhh, I like the suggestion of a Dist+! I could quickly breadboard that and mess with the values and components until I'm happy.

And putting in switches for input/output caps is definitely on the radar!

I just got a cello with a pickup, and my guitar and bass pedalboards have been in disarray for at least a year now. So I'm building a simple grab n go board with tuner/comp/dirt/delay.

What would you guys suggest for a good dirt pedal that does medium OD -> medium distortion that can double duty both on guitar and bass? My guitar amp is solid state (but in my defense, it's the Johnny Greenwood Fender 85) so nothing that's tone relies heavily on overdriving the amp's preamp (klon, TS, etc.). The input signal will also be buffered, if that makes a difference (it shouldn't as I'm not getting into fuzzface territory!).

So... thoughts?

Ok, as an obsessive mod/tweak type of person (sympathizers anyone?) my strat is a SSH with coil tap on the H and switches to allow for almost ever type of pickup combination imaginable. It's been fun.

But it's time for me to take what I've learned from using all these options and realize that there's really 3 settings that I use 99% of the time. So I'm going to buy a new pickguard that hasn't been turned into swiss cheese yet, and set up just a 3 way switch with those settings. I hope.

Here's the trick(s):
I want 2 volumes and 1 master tone. One volume dedicated to the humbucker, and the other shared between the neck and middle.
I want the switch positions to be:
1: Bridge
2: Neck + Middle
3: Neck

I feel I have a really good handle on switching most of the time, but this one is just blowing my mind. So I'm here to either bow to the hive-mind as you take me to school, or blow all your collective minds as well and declare that it can't be done.

But I think I may have to go the route of a dual-gang for the Volume 1 (neck and middle), so I can perform all the volume before the switch.  If I do that, then I think all I'm left with is figuring out how to get the neck+middle on in the middle position.

I know I could very easily accomplish the sounds I'm looking for by adding another switch (like push/pull on the V2 to have the neck always on, etc) but I'd REALLY like to keep the controls dead simple as outlined.

One of the things I'm trying to get my head around is the on/off.  Like for a fuzz, I wouldn't want to go full blast gain, then back it off (like you would with a wah).  I could reverse the pot connections, but there's also the issue of volume drop/bump that's going to happen with gain.  You'd almost want to dual gang it with (reversed) volume or something.

The more I type, the more I'm thinking trem.  Ohhhh, I think I picked up the parts for the Moosapotamus Skippy Trem.  I may have even populated a vero layout for it, now that I think of it.  I'd probably still reverse the speed pot since it's pretty ring-mod like at full speed, although I'll have to see how that actually works out since I'll only be working with a portion of the pot's rotation.

I keep getting entry level vox and dunlop wahs in trades.  I don't really ever use a wah.  Any suggestions of some other effect to build in there?  I've got a decent volume pedal already.  I'm just fresh out of ideas and needing inspiration.

i am not expecting preferential treatment here, i am sure any retailer/ supplier could have made the same request and had the same result. i find your claim to the contrary offensive.

I'm not so sure.  If Tayda reached out to forum admins requesting the removal of any threads that they disagreed with, I don't think the result would be the same.

Bringing up Tayda is not very helpful since they are not in any way involved in the DIY scene. Joe's right, though, that it's the same treatment that we'd give Steve at Small Bear or Connie at PPP. Not because they're retailers, but because they're good people and we like them.

I guess that's my point. We do, and we should, give preferential treatment to people like Brian, Steve, Joe, Connie, Kevin, etc. Their assets to the community, and we're happy to help and support how we are able. The thread on DIYSB was deleted in this spirit, to avoid undue damage to Joe's business. Whether or not that was the best approach is debatable (but please go over to DIYSB and debate it there instead of here), but that was the admin's decision there.

Joe made it sound like we should (or do) let all retailers control what's said about their products in these open forums. I used Tayda as a stark contrast on purpose to make the point that this isn't true.

Joe, you do awesome work and I make sure to mention your name whenever someone is looking for a fantastic wah sound.  Your support for the diy community is worthy of preferential treatment, and we're happy to give it.

Yeah, I noticed that awhile ago, the page that's linked in the forum banner here has moved.

Definitely stop building if you're not feeling like it.  This hobby is full of frustration and troubleshooting, and without passion pushing you forward it's just going to drag and be unpleasant.

One suggestion to boot your motivation would be to play more, especially with other people.  Playing with others will force you come to musical conclusions that you don't naturally arrive at on your own.  That will hopefully spark some "sound ideas" which could launch your next pedal project.  Or, like me, at least drive you to build bass compressors to help fix your bassists inconsistent plucking
