Got myself an awesome distortion today! Funny story with this one. I actually took this pedal in as "used gear" when I worked at the music store. Then the truck guy, Glen, bought it because he liked it so much. I was jealous. He held onto it for 10ish years then sold it 2 months ago to a friend of his. That friend happens to be a good friend of mine too. I was just finishing up a load box for him and he said "I'm broke but Glen just sold me this weird Nady distortion pedal, can we trade"? To which I said F$&K yes we can! Now I work with Glen again at Fishman but I own the pedal! Hahaha it's very cool I'll try to post a video this weekend! Here are a couple pictures!

Yes it is a 12ax7!! Thanks for reading.

Open Discussion / New Year / New Beginnings
December 19, 2017, 07:45:21 AM
Hey all,
This year has been a tough one for me personally. Lots of stress and most of it revolving around the fact that I HATE my current job. Currently I repair medical equipment. It was a good gig for a while but there was a shift in management and the people that shifted have made it impossible for me to do my job efficiently. Not to mention they have no respect for me or the entire repair department. But, that is all going to change...

As of January 2nd I will be starting a new career in the repair department at Fishman Transducers. I am VERY excited for this. My new job is only 15 min from my house (as opposed to an HOUR commute currently) and i will be doing something I love. At 34 with a family and house it's a little nerve racking to shift gears like this. It was time for a change though.

Anyways, thanks for reading. I gave my 2 weeks notice yesterday and have mentally checked out now. 10 1/2 years is a long time at one job. Hey, I did get that awesome PRS custom 24 though. Thanks again for reading.

A friend of mine asked for a Cab Simulator / Loud Box. That's what I think he wants anyways. He wants to "load his head so he can record with it" <- his words.

-Is he in fact looking for a cab sim or is it something else he needs?
-Anyone built one that they prefer?
-any good links to one of these?

Thanks Guys!

Open Discussion / NVPD New Vintage Pedal Day
October 10, 2017, 08:17:44 AM
So, I got a text from a random number on Friday. I had pictures of an old Ibanez CS-9. They said it doesn't pass effected signal but the light comes on and bypasses fine. $20 if you want it. I asked who it was and it was the manager from Guitar Center. I forgot I gave him my number. I Said I'd take it, thinking I'd just gut it and either throw another Chorus PCB in it or strip the enclosure and part out the PCB or repair it if possible. I got it home and noticed the DC jack was loose and opened the pedal up. couldn't find anything glaring. So i tightened the PCB (a single screw holds it in place) then put it back together and VOILA! it worked totally fine! So I got a Vintage Ibanez CS-9 for $21.24 (taxes were $1.25). Well worth it even though i'm not a huge Chorus fan.

Pretty cool Huh?

They are a little more expensive than a couple other retailers but the FREE OVERNIGHT really makes up for it. They also have a 10% off discount running right now. so play your cards right and you and get some stuff cheap and sent overnight. just saying...

Build Reports / You guessed it...another fuzz
September 05, 2017, 06:47:05 AM
Hey All,
Well you're probably sick of me and my fuzz PCBs buy now but I did another one. This is a clone of the DBA Harmonic Transformer. Its a VERY cool fuzz with 1 knob and two switches. The knob controls the amount of fuzz and the switches control Intensity and Shape. It seems like a one trick pony but it is very versatile.

I got my 3 spot from Oshpark a couple days ago so I will try to populate and test one of them this week. Here is what the PCB looks like (see below). If there is enough interest I could do a group buy or order a 10 pack or something. If anyone see's issues with the PCB feel free to post them. Also if you want one let me know that way I gear up to do an Elecrow order.

It is designed to fit into a 1590b. Thanks for looking guys!

Hello,
Built this for a friend of a friend. I used Alcohol inks on the enclosure under the decal. It came out a little darker than i wanted but still looks pretty cool. Here are some pictures for you. I didn't have time to do a video for it so I'll see if he can snap me a quick one. Anyways, here are some pictures for you!

The large LED is the On / Off indicator and the small one is to indicate envelope signal. Thanks for reading / looking.

Open Discussion / Elecrow sale
May 25, 2017, 01:15:24 PM
Just thought those who do their own layouts would like to know that the prototype 5 piece boards are on sale. The 5 x 5 cm, 5 x 10 cm and 10 x 10 cm are all $5 plus shipping. I just spent $30 on some prototypes I've been dragging my heals on...any ways just an FYI.

Build Reports / Twin Peaks
May 16, 2017, 07:07:21 AM
Got a message from someone wanting one of these and because I'm a PCB / Parts hoarder I had it all. Including a Purple enclosure that Jon (midwayfair) gave me forever ago. I did ste...borrow the face plate idea I saw here last week. But here is my build.

Hope you guys like it. I didn't have time to do a demo but this thing is awesome. I might need to order another from David at some point. Just a quick note I used the NSL7053 Optos and this is the older sandwich board from the first GB he did. Thanks for looking!

They do something similar over at ILF. This is intended to be a judjement free thread please let's keep it light. I'll go first. It doesn't have to be 5 how ever many you want is good.

5 Good
Alexisonfire - Watch Out! (I could listen to this from start to finish for DAYS)
Rufio - MCMLXXXV (takes me back to simple pop punk times)
Metallica - LOAD (Probably my favorite Metallica record)
Deftones - Adrenaline (My personal music choices started young 1995)
Better Than Ezra - ALL OF IT. (they are very under-rated IMO)

5 Bad
Pink Floyd - ALL OF IT I seriously can't stand any of their music
U2 - All except 4 songs form Achtung Baby
Mastodon - Emperor of Sand. pretty much anything after Crack the sky was terrible.
Metallica - ride the lightning, and anything after Load.
Dave Matthews Band- EVERYTHING (i do think his drummer is super talented tho.

General Questions / Naughty Fish Questions
April 25, 2017, 08:09:31 PM
Just a couple of questions regarding the Naughty Fish.

- The doc says that I can "roll my own" vactrol. Has anyone A / B the Xvive ones and "RYO"?

- I Also want to use a rotary switch for the sweep control HP/LP/BP. Any Ideas on how to hook one up? I'm assuming a 2p3t would do the trick...right?

-  How difficult is this thing to tame? I've seen a few threads pop up on these, just wondering really.

Thanks guys!

Build Reports / Oldie but a goodie!
April 11, 2017, 06:43:35 AM
Hello all,
Here is my build of a Madbeans Cave Dweller "Dub Edition". The "dub" part, for those that don't know, means there are 2 PT2399 chip in this design. This cam out a few years ago and I've wanted to build one for a while. This thing has delay for DAYS! It's also nice and DARK too!. You could say that it's in an over sized enclosure too, considering it was designed for a 1590A. This one is in a 1590BB. So, here it is. I etched the PCB and Dminner etched the enclosure. I'll get a video up soon.

Thanks for looking!

I did a multi build a while back and realized that I really loved the fuzz that I put into it. It isn't a super complicated build buy any means but this thing is BRUTAL! I love the tone and minimal options on it. There are 2 toggles and 1 knob. The toggle on the right controls the wave and the toggle on the left is an intensity boost. The knob controls the overall output of the fuzz, This is by far one of my favorites. I might just do a Fabbed PCB for it. It is a DBA Harmonic Transformer clone. The enclosure art was done by Dan Minner at A.D.D Effects. Here are some pictures for you. I'll try to get a video up soon. Thanks guys.

Hope you enjoyed it. I'll get a video up soon.

Build Reports / Mimic Delay (Hamlet)
March 13, 2017, 07:23:42 AM
Hello all,
Long story short I started collecting comic books again and a friend (old co working for the music store) of mine offered me some Spawn action figures. I said i'd build him a pedal of his choosing for them. He wanted a delay. One of my favorite (might just be my very favorite) builds is the Hamlet Delay but Jon Patton. His use of the charge pump to boost the signal before the chip is genius, It's one of the best sounding PT2399 delays out there, I recommend it to all who haven't built one. This time I used effectslayouts version. I love Jon's layout but i wanted the external tone pot. I also wired the volume as a trimmer and mounted it to the base plate via a piece of vero board and stand offs. I also did a "Slam" mod to it. This is a momentary switch with a 22k resistor soldered to the lugs 2 and 3 of the "Repeats" pot. What this mod does is a ramping oscillation. As long as your foot is depressing the switch it will continue to oscillate. It's a pretty easy / awesome mod. Anyways, here are a few pictures for you. I'll do a demo tonight and post it asap.

Thanks for looking!

Hello,

Build Reports / Rehoused the "D"
February 16, 2017, 07:52:48 AM
Hello,
A while ago I did a 1590A reverb for a friend. Well the crappy jacks I used failed and they needed to be replaced. So, I basically rebuilt this pedal. New Jacks, Enclosure, wiring, and Pot. It's a 1776 Rub-A-Dub reverb. Jon Patton (Midwayfair) did the PCB layout. Here are a couple pictures!

Here is a side by side of the new enclosure (on the left) vs the old one (on the right).

Hope you guys like it. Thanks.
