Hi all,

I'm working on a mudbunny and I'd like to be able to switch between two cap values for flat or bumped mids. I've figured out the values I'd like to use. However, I don't have enough room in the enclosure for a switch. I'd like to use a pot instead as that will fit above the board and I can have a nice 2x2 knob layout.

Can someone tell me if I have the wiring idea down? I believe that I'd wire the input from the board to the center lug of a 100k pot. One leg of each cap would go on lugs 1 and 3. The remaining legs would be joined and the output wire back to the board would come off of this.

Does that sound right?

Does anyone know if there is a way to add an led to the dpdt tone wicker switch? I'm going to put mine on a footswitch and wanted to add an led so you'd know it's engaged from a distance.

Thanks I'm advance!

General Questions / mudbunny desoldering blues!
June 03, 2021, 10:37:51 AM
Had a plan and just a little free time to mod an old mudbunny to civil war specs, change the tone stack for more mids, and switch out the transistors for low HFE ones.

Wouldn't you know it, I wreaked total havoc on the thing desoldering the old components! Had to order a new board from Brian today and will just start fresh.

Nothing really to add here... just venting. You have a plan and a limited amount of time and you think it's going to be exactly what you want and you just need to keep plugging away.

I think I can actually get the damaged board working, I'm just going to need to trace the signal from start to finish. And will want to do a remake anyway as it's a little frankenstined.

General Questions / mids mod for mudbunny?
May 24, 2021, 08:23:38 AM
Just resurfacing this from a mods thread that might be getting lost: https://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=14898.0

I'm working on bringing an old muff back to life and would like to add a permanent mids boost mod. Referring to the image below, can I just put a 10nf cap on C10 to achieve this? Can I just solder the legs of a 10nf cap to the legs of the 3.9nf that is there? Or is there another way I want to go about this?

Thanks in advance!

Open Discussion / Bass delay? Rebote?
May 16, 2021, 08:03:21 AM
Hey all, just getting into using delay on bass guitar. Using it more as an extended reverb/straight non-wobbly chorus king of effect.

I have an old rebote delay that's been kicking around my bench forever and it ends up that it's great for bass with the blend and it's simplicity.

Is there anything out there better? I know this is a pretty old design. Also, any smaller versions?

For anyone making their own cables these days, where are you buying your supplies? It's been a long time for me, but I need to make a few now that I'm playing again and I'm not sure what the best current place is to get supplies.

Finally played a bunch of my OC2 > my Source Audio Bass envelope filter last night on bass. I had one of those moments where I realized where half the sounds I have had in my head came from... or at least how to reproduce them. It's a total Mike Gordon of Phish sound through and through but you can also hear a lot of the synthy Stevie Wonder type bass as well.

Anyone else love this combo of effects?

I have a madbean nautilus and a merlin submarine that I need to try out. AS hard as I've tried, though, I feel like it's really tricky to get a good consistent autowah sound on bass with the nautilus. The Source Audio is all digital but sounds really good with minimal fiddling. I'm going to give the nautilus another run after the holidays, though.

I need to order these values and can't find them! Feel like  a noob. Any help?

Open Discussion / Creating a pedal level attenuator?
October 08, 2017, 07:24:29 PM
Has anyone ever added a stompswitch that raises the output or volume level of a pedal? I'd like to put one in a bass preamp pedal so that I can raise the level for solos, etc. someone must have done this beforeā€”I'm not even sure what terminology to use.

This seems like the right idea, but something that you'd have to put after he effect and not in between a board and volume pot:https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/19549-state-of-the-stomp-build-a-preset-volume-box

Thanks in advance!

Open Discussion / Zirconia vs madbean 4:1 for bass?
October 06, 2017, 03:41:20 PM
I have a 4:1 that I'm building up right now but have always heard good things about the zirconia. Has anyone compared the two? Can anyone say what the differences are in terms of how heybwill sound I'm bass? I'm just looking for a little bit of an enhanced transparent pedal that will smooth things out and give a nice roundness.

Is anyone making a DOD 250 clone board these days? Just played an original on bass and it was great. Would love to build one up.

Been working at a guitar shop and have been on more of an instrument/build kick lately. I'm getting the itch, though, and have a half built 3 knob comp (that afterlife with a blend, half built fatpants, and an old mudbunny board that is built up.

It's for bass... any ideas off the bat? THink I can fit it all in a BB box? I'm not thinking of using footswitches for all... maybe just the muff and boost?

Hi,

I'm fixing an old DOD 250. It's got one of those older switches with two prongs on one side and a single prong off of the other.  Can anyone tell me what this kind of switch is called and where I can find a wiring diagram for it?

Open Discussion / Comp>boost no footswitch?
January 19, 2017, 07:19:17 PM
Compression and boost are the "always on" pedals on my bass board. I just ordered parts to build a 4:1 comp and a fatpants. I'm thinking of just putting them into the same enclosure with no foot switch. I have always been tempted to make pedals without a switch if they are always in but have always chickened out.

Has anyone else done this? Any regrets?

My bass board is usually: modulation>comp>boost>fuzz>sadowsky pre

Hey all,

So, I'm trying to wrap my head around this. If anyone can help point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. So, I want to create a bass EQ pedal that uses 5 custom bands based on popular bass preamps.

I have a 1776 effects six shooter board and on the BOM, it says to use http://www.muzique.com/lab/gyrator.htm to figure out how to create custom frequency bands. To do this, though, you have to enter the values of 2 caps and 2 resistors and then it will calculate the frequency. However, I have no idea how to determine the value of the caps and resistors, just the final frequencies that I want. How do I go about figuring this one out?

This is what I'm looking at:
40hz Bass
4khz Treble
500hz Mids
1 khz Low Mids
2.8khz Hi Mids

Is there anything on the current madbean roster that is similar to the Lavache/Electra? I have an electra drive that I really like but would love to build something similar that can go from subtle to more fuzz.

Open Discussion / Cardinal trem mouser bom?
January 03, 2017, 06:04:54 PM
Any chance anyone has a mouser bom for the cardinal trem? Some buddies at work want to dive in to pedal building and want to build Cardinals. They build guitars for a living and do a lot of soldering etc., so I think they'll be fine with this one.

Open Discussion / A good blend pcb? For bass?
December 26, 2016, 07:36:25 PM
Does anyone make a good blend pcb with a phase switch? The one over at Guitar PCB is out of stock, but it's also huge. I'd love to have simplified version for my board. Does anyone out there make one?

Hey all... I've been building pedals for a few years but I have never used vero before. I have been taking a break from building pedals, but want to cook up a few preamps to use onboard for my bass. Looks like most of these need to be done via vero, so here I am. Looking forward to doing it and getting ready to order some supplies from smallbear. Can someone tell me what kind of actual board I need? I have 4 smallish projects all around this size: http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2013/04/sadowsky-preamp.html

Here's the smallbear link: http://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/pc-boards-prototyping-1/?sort=featured&page=1

There are a few good guides out there, but if anyone else has any tips or can point me to some good information on working with vero, it would be much appreciated.

Open Discussion / Rullywow/King Tut problem
January 22, 2016, 06:36:33 AM
Any thoughts on this issue, guys?

I have a King Tut/Pharoah clone that Rully actually pop'd that I put together recently. I'm having an odd issue. IT works fine when I'm at home jamming along. However, at band practice when I have it in a chain, it will be great, then, I'll take a break and come back and the King Tut isn't passing sound. The led will be fine but it suddenly passes no sound after being fine.

Any idea what the issue might be?

WAsn't able to try it again when I got home last night, but I'm guessing that it will be fine.  Could something be building up that peaks after 15 minutes of playing?

The circuit sounds amazing on bass... a great dirty boost through a real fuzz... not sure what's going on here.
