The Radial DIs I own and use are perhaps some of the most durable devices I've ever used. Rock solid, dependable, and as far as I can tell they are industry standard for sounding good. I have both the passive and active types.

I've thought about building some, but the cost of a used Radial DI just makes it make little sense.

Jacob

My concern with these is that the input impedance is only 220K. I have some passive instruments (mandolin and an acoustic) that still have passive pickups.

That's fair. I wish I was local to you so I could let you test mine out. Alas... northern Saskatchewan was a far distance from Baltimore.

As long as times are posted, I'd probably join.

Consider signing up for a 1 month sub to zoom, or a 3 month, instead of a whole year. It sounds like something people will do a few times, but I would hate for you to shell out and 3 months from now nobody is joining.

What kind of hold does this hobby have on you?  I all but gave it up after doing what most everyone did during COVID (build like a Mad Man) and just burnt out.  I had some big fails, one after another, that sort of drove me in the stop direction.  Bought a couple of boards last month (Charlatan and Degenerator) and I was expecting the same results as before but HOLY COW they worked.  First time fire ups get the iron burning and solder flowing in your blood 😆.  Bad news is I bought a Tourbus yesterday trying to overcome the Total Recall fail of several years ago so if this one goes south I would appreciate some help.  This is a great hobby that seems to just draw you back in but more than that it's the great people here.  Even though I wasn't building I always checked in to see the projects Brian was producing and look at the awesome builds you guys made.

And Jimilee I checked in enough to see you haven't tamed that guitar buying addiction at all!!!

I've been at this for almost 18 years. The first year was on and off but after that it was a total love affair. There's never a day that goes by in the last seventeen of those that I don't think at least a little bit about what I want to do next. Why, who knows? Probably because it engages many of my interests and nearly adequate talent and intellect all at once.

Sometimes we get lucky and find "our thing". It's not my only thing but it is one of my most important.

Oh man... Has it really been that long? It's been nearly 15 for me now...

And that's excellent customer service! Thanks for helping this fellow out Matt ;)

My first Delay was a Boss DD3, but my second was the Line 6 DL4. What a beast that was! I barely even tipped the scales on what that baby could do for me back in 2001!

Nice to see it get an upgrade.

Ordered. I hardly build anymore, but I may as well have something else to add to my ever growing pile of "Projects I hope to get to one day!"

Good on you Brian. I've already donated to the same foundation, and it seems like most of the funds will go to where they will help.

You do realize that the Expanse seasons 5 & 6 was released by Amazon over a number of weeks, right? It wasn't released with the 'binge' model you describe.

I'm not certain about earlier seasons, but I don't see what this has to do with the Show...

Silverface man, it's the thing all the cool kids do.

I'm doing okay as far as clutter. Cleaned up a bit today and rescued three FV-1 from old builds. One freshly installed on the (just so happens) three new FV-1 projects I'm working on.

Also got a new storage bin since I was completely out of space for project PCBs. mbp now has more projects that at any time, even considering all the ones that have been discontinued.

You FFX guys with your silver face bench amps. I think pedal peddling is just a cover you use with your wives to buy sweet amps. "Honey, don't think of it as a test amp. Think of it as our little silver goose that lays golden eggs."  "By the way, sweetie, no one will take us seriously if we're not checking our circuits through an old plexi."

Lol, I use a silverface Vibro Champ as a bench amp too!

I think it's because that era put out great amps, but they aren't worth as much as the blackface types.

I read the first book, and then watched the series after season 5 came out. I just watched season 6 that was released as well.

I liked the show better than the book, and I read a lot of books.

I don't know why, but I expected Brian's workbench to be a pair of trestles, and a wide, old plank sagging deeply under the weight of toan piled high on it.

Brian used a Cardtable for a very long time. It had all the toans we dreamed of. I'm not sure why he switched.

Build Reports / Re: JMK HooDoo Drive in a 1590G
January 27, 2022, 07:21:46 AM
Impressive. I designed that PCB to fit sideways in a 1590B or 125B, not in that little 1590G. Glad you got it all to fit, because it looks sharp!

(see what I did there ;)

I think I've always known what this video aims to prove, but I never could quite put it into words.

I will say that craftsmanship and materials go a long way into making an instrument more playable and enjoyable. But perhaps the wood species has had much less of an impact on electric instruments than we've always wanted to believe.

I mean, a maple fretboard might sound identical to a rosewood or ebony fretboard, but it feels different in my hands, you know? I like one more, I feel more comfortable with one over the other, and so I do sound better on one. It has less to do with the material sounding different, at least this video suggest that it's more about other things than I've always thought.

Thanks for sharing this man,

This is a motivating page. I will partake as soon as I can. My workspace is dismal, but it can get better. I do have projects I need to accomplish!
