Very cool...!  What pedal is that?

I think is the Boss RC-300 (XL?). Also, I think he uses a Memory Man with Hazarai.

Ah. I think I tried one of the 339s, and I didn't like the strange smaller body.

My dream is a 335 with a bigsby. In red. That guitar would never leave me.

Congrats again Kaleb.

Man that's killer. The ES335 is easily my favourite guitar, and all I can afford is the Epi Dot I have. Ah we'll, that's a rad guitar Kaleb.

Build Reports / Maestro Boomerang Rebuild
October 13, 2012, 01:04:36 AM
I never seem to remember to snap pics of my builds, so I haven't posted anything in ages. I completed a project today though, and remembered to snap shots of it.

This is a Maestro Boomerang Shell that I got in a trade a long time ago. The previous owner had tried to do a moddable wah in there, I think of the BYOC variety but maybe it was GGG, don't remember. Anyway, it has two holes on one side, unfortunately, but otherwise the shell is in great shape.

I found some etchable boards for the original BG-2 circuit, but I decided to do a layout of my own, got it made at OshPark. Fired up first time.

If anyone wants one of the spare PCBs, let me know. For a few bucks, you too could have a BG-2 too...

I once was so into building that my untouched cup of tea developed a layer of ice on top.

I live in Canada.

General Questions / Re: DeadRinger independent boost?
October 12, 2012, 03:40:46 AM
I'd need more info on the JHS mod...

Basically, the problem with that is that the Boost in the Fulldrive isn't really a boost - it's actually the a second pot in the feedback loop of the Overdrive section.

My bet is that what the JHS mod does is replace the switch and knob with a boost either after or before the other circuit, which allows it to be independent. If that's the case, then simply build the Deadringer without the Boost switch or pot, then add in a simple Mosfet boost or whatever boost you'd like either before or after.

What I'm saying is, you can't really make the boost independent, but you can add a boost instead.

May have been covered already... but is a parametric EQ out of the question?

Nope. It does use dual pot, clean-blending ala Klone.

I think he's referring to the original question...

Parametric EQ is not out of the question. I think R.G has some info on GEOFEX that you could look into. If'n I'm not mistaken, Austin/Coldcraft/AZiltz was looking into this with me aaaages ago. We sorta lost interest.

Open Discussion / Re: New Amp Day.

Good for you Curtis.

What continually amazes me about this amp is how good it sounds in the various settings. I haven't found a dud, but many useable sounds. If you like Fender Cleans, Vox grind, Marshall or Mesa whatever, it's there and it sounds good.

Very happy with this choice.

Potentially. But there could be another wrong value, or cold joint on the PCB...

I actually didn't find this at all with the wolfshirt I built. Are you sure it's not particular to your build? Perhaps the reason could be sussed out.

Nope, voltage is just a maximum rating. For instance, if you were running 300V though your pedal, the 250's would be too small. But you'll be running +18V at max thorugh a klone, so 250V is totally fine.

You do this using switching jacks. Connect the switches on the two jacks, and you're set. I realize this isn't a drawing, but hopefully you'll understand the idea with the description.

I agree with that - there's little actual room saved using 1590a enclosures, but from a builders point of view, it certainly is challenging. But that's why I never use them, practically, their size and format offer me no benefits as a live musician.

That said, I am thoroughly impressed by all these guys who are using them.
