Open Discussion / Re: New Amp Day.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty stoked, so it's exciting. What I'm most impressed with is it's versatility. I'm a Fender clean sort of player, and rarely use a lot of drive, mostly because I play rhythm mostly, but if you dial back the master and up the gain and throw the hot switch and the tone stack switch and go with a modern, tight sound... all of the sudden you have a completely different amp. It's called the Tweaker for a reason, it's easily the most versatile amp I've ever played.

Is it really as uniquely wonderful as the 50's tweed princeton I've played? No. Is it as chimey and clean as the 65' deluxe I've played? No. Is it as powerful and blow your socks off amazing as a JCM800? No.

But for the price I paid, and the intended use, it couldn't be more perfect.

Nice amp.  I wish my guitar room was as clean and tidy as yours. :P

Haha, yeah, that's not my guitar room. That's the Fireside room my church. I just snapped a couple pics of it while I  could. My office is where it lives, and I call my office 'my cell' because it's about the same size and makeup of a prison cell... But I have a corner for the amp and a small guitar rack stand.

The one red knob sticks out in a great way. I should try that with some build, the one knob to rule them all.

So last weekend, I got tired of how loud my old Fender Concert 2 was.

So I traded this past weekend for an Egnater Tweaker 15 combo. Couldn't be happier.

That boneyard layout totally makes me thing Superdelay. I like the subtle graphics on that a lot.

I think that I said this once, but at the rate at which technology is developing, I think breadboarding is going away. You can just about simulate any schematic you want on a computer, and the price decrease on having a PCB and circuit be prototyped is moving quickly. It won't be long till it's cheaper and faster to develop a circuit using simulation programs, have it prototyped and overnighted back to you by a company for testing the next day.

It certainly means you should buy a few more than you need if you plan to be doing this for a while. But for most of us, it means that we'll get our parts from Smallbear for the next decade, one or two at a time, and the prices will slowly rise until their stock is gone. I get the sense that Steve is being smart to buy as much as he can to keep the hobbiers happy, and also letting them out at a slow rate...

On that note, I have several dozen matched quads and matched pairs of 2N5952s... They might be worth a lot in the near future.

There's no need to try and get them both into a 1590B with switches if you use a bypass looper either. I highely recommend trying the 125BB with top mounted jacks. It's a big savings when you put the jacks on the top end.

I guess I'm in the minority. I don't see that the X4 is a big enough step up from the DL4, and I think TC (who definitely have the ability) could have given their customers more. Maybe I'm just cranky.

Could be cool. I've tried it, and there are some settings I would use, but I found myself looking at the two knobs and 1 out of every 2 times, they were just about the same. That's why I went with the dual gang pot.

Certainly, I recognize the Algorithms are likely much better. But quite frankly, I've been reading around that people have been waiting and asking for this from TC Electroic. It seems like such a let down to those who wanted more (to my mind) compared to what's been available for years already. Banks and presets aren't that much harder to do than Toneprints, and if the price point was 25-50 bucks more because of it, it'd be a no brainer.

The Mobile phone thing is cool yes, but is it actually useful for a gigging musician or is it a bedroom trick?  And yes, software could change the game, but it's still not gonna make me excited - I'd still want/need more than they're offering here.

What I will admit that is for the average kid out there looking for a new/first delay tool, this is awesome. Not much more than a Boss DD7, same price as a DL4. More options than the former, sounds better than the latter. Plus, all those teens obsessed with their cells are in heaven.

Excuse my cynicism, I'm a bit of a critic I guess. I got cynical with TC when they started releasing 'special ambient' versions of the Flashback/Reverb pedals. The artist versions of their pedals also seem gimmicky to me. It's like they have the 'danelectro' side to their company with these pedals, but the real side to the company is still putting out the G-series stuff for real gigging musicians.

I'm sure it will be 'better' than the DL4 was/is, but it's not that much of an update. Truthfully, it doesn't compete with the Timeline or Timefactor for me.

Think about it:
3 presets plus a tap switch (same as the DL4)
About 16 types of delays (Same as the DL4)
It's about the same size, weight and configuration as the DL4)
Built in looper (Same as the DL4)
Stereo in, Stereo out, plus an expression in/out

But it does have (over the DL4)
Midi in and thru
Toneprints
...

That's it really. Obviously you're getting the TC Electronic take on delay algorithims instead of Line 6, I just think that these guys didn't think this through enough! There's no banks of delay patches, there's nothing mindblowing or revolutionary... all for the same price.

I say, if you're going to get into the game, at least do something new or set yourself apart.
