I had an SG for a little bit. I sold it tho. I probably owned the wrong kind, as mine had a pair of P90s in it, and I didn't dig the sound. I'm in for the classic Singles or Doubles, but don't get along with any Hum.

Yeah, having Smallbear go away leaves a great big void for sure. I don't know how many of us are still around, but those of us who have been doing this for more than a decade (I'm at 12+ years now?) know that without Steve/Smallbear...

NONE OF THIS WOULD EXIST.

For sure, the whole DIY community, even the people who have never purchased anything from Smallbear, owe a debt. They were the first, and most significant supplier for DIY pedal builders, and the whole boutique market exists because he, and perhaps Radio Shack, made it possible for people to purchase a bunch of resistors, caps, ICs and transistors, and turn them into a pedal.

I for one don't fault him for wanting to retire. I'm glad other suppliers exist, because Mammoth taught us that there's more to being a supplier than a desire to supply, and Steve figured it out.

Fantastic Jimi! I never did learn to Etch. I moved on from single sided boards to the manufactured boards about the same time Brian did, so it's amazing you were still using that old school method for so long! Welcome to the next level friend.

As a guy whose primary PCB sales are driven by a Test Rig and Parallel PCB tools - the key is found in an old RG-Keen article on blending. Most blend circuits I've seen don't actually blend. The good ones find a way to ground the circuit you blend out, to actually mix the two circuits accurately. That's the first thing I'd be reading if I were you Brian.

The many, many international distribution centres seem very odd to me. Why did it go from Nashville to Florida to San Fram and then back and then on to there and then on to there only to come back to San Fran!

It's incredible really.

Oh, is that what the images in the first post was? I was thinking it was the more basic one which basically included 2 input jacks, a DC jack and some alligator clips with wires in them. I tried to explain how to build it and included pictures, but it didn't translate very well apparently.

there's a video in the 2nd post. It used to be imbedded. I'll see what's up with it.

Hey Jacob, do you still have the images for this? I was telling someone who is just getting started about it.

Which images do you mean? The build docs are found here: http://jmkpcbs.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/The-Testing-Rig.pdf

Open Discussion / Re: Happy Fathers Day!
June 20, 2021, 07:51:26 AM
Happy day to all you dads! I've got 4 little ones that made me a father, and I'm pretty blessed.

I no longer have a father of my own, and I have friends who want to be fathers and can't, so it's a tough day for some. For all you guys that have a hard day on Fathers Day, please know that you aren't alone. It's tough sometimes, but cheer on those dads around you anyway, and cling to whatever good memories you have with the Father or Father-figure you did have.

Cheers.

I'm so grateful for Jon's knowledge. He's pretty bang on.

I was going to give a cheeky answer and say, "all of them" but someone beat me to it.

I'll give a secondary answer as a question - which circuit? There are multiple 'genres' of guitar pedal compressors. If you want to choose one, some people (they're all smarter than me) can tell you what each component in the circuit is doing, and then you'll know more precisely what they do.

Looking again at the original pictures and for me, it's those tucked in shirts that drag the ensembles into gutter, that and the white socks and sneakers, had to give my head a shake, what year is this, maybe a cultural thing.
Take care.dave

And for me, it's the Dad wearing the Jargos WITH NO BELT! That's a total badass move. I can't wear anything without a belt, or else I'm always mistaken for a plumber!

I've never met a Dad dumb confident enough to pull out the Jargos. I hope someday to see it.

The best builds are often gifts we give others, because we put extra care and effort into them! I love the story, and I think it looks great!

Not the same issue, but I work with a lot of young and unexperienced musicians who are singing or playing on stage for the first time. Often people are so afraid of making mistakes in front of people. The reality is that even the best musicians make mistakes, the best singers hit wrong notes, and these flubs will happen no matter your skill level. Learning to be a great player is realizing that you can't be perfect at all times, and that nobody really remembers the mistakes, especially the people we love, remember your bravery or the great moment in the set, and the mistakes always fade.

It's a tough lesson to learn, but those who do will succeed, and it's worth it if only because playing in front of people is such a rewarding experience.

Been a couple days now, and I had some strong arm soreness, and some sore throat symptoms, but nothing I was worried about. My wife, who has chronic fatigue and may have Fibro Mialga (another story) had similar symptoms, but also has felt a lot more drained. We expected it, and aren't worried at all.

We are some of the first 30 year olds in our province to get the shot. It's 40 and up most other places, but here in the North they had extra doses.

Looks like second dose is supposed to be in August.
