Open Discussion / Re: finding "mojo" parts
August 06, 2010, 08:50:53 PM
Get some old devices from a pawn shop or thrift store and tear them apart to find their circuits. Sometimes you'll be surprised to find fishy caps, carbon comp resistors, etc.

Also, sometimes you'll see guys selling them at diystompboxes or BYOC forums. I think Capsnsuch will sometimes release a stash of mojo on occaision also.

I think 'fake mojo' can work too. There are new parts available that are 'different' enough to qualify as NOS parts.

I can verify - Brian gave me a note about one of the boards he sent me. It's not a problem for me at all.

I have a suspicion that more than just your power jack wiring is the problem, you may have wiring issues in your bypass as well. If you can give us high res pics that will help a lot, but more details would be helpful.

Be precise: exactly what is and what isn't happening?

Are you sure of your pinouts on your transistors? Double check that your orientation is correct not just to the image for the layout, but to the pinout on the layout.

I have used transistors with a backwards pinout to the normal pinout - sometimes companies use opposite pinouts for trannies compared to the same models from other companies.

Tonepad's boards are much different than Brian's (Madbean). Tonepad have manufactured boards, meaning they have what's called solder mask (green is all I've seen from Tonepad). These leave you with a very clean, easy to work with board that is less likely to have parts short out.

Tonepad's boards are awesome, but take time to get to you as they are coming from South America. The main difference I find between them and Madbean boards is simply that they focus on much different projects, which is good! More options is better.

nice finish on that pedalenclosures pedal enclosure!
really nice build!
mike

Look at Pedalenclosures making comments about the finish on pedal enclosures from pedalenclosures in a forum designed to show off people's finished pedal enclosures. Cool.

I like that Pedal Enclosures enclosure...

I felt like I was working for the department of redundancy department for a second there.

that's just a 3PDT switch with a PCB that makes connections simpler.

One thing I can think of - mix some soap and water together in a spray bottle. Practice getting the spray down so you get a good even coat of spray droplets all over the box. Spray your top coat over that...

that's not quite the way it works...

If you do that, the effective range of the pot will only be from '40-50'k ish... depends on the pot. But essentially, you'd put it in series with the connection to the 3rd(? I think...) lug of the pot.

However, that won't really accomplish the same thing as using a 50k pot. it will not work the same, or even close. However, you can make a pot get smaller - by using a resistor connecting to lugs 1 and 3 you can change the value of the pot (i.e. 100k to 50kish). This WILL change the pattern of the pot (i.e. no longer truely log, but some sort of hybrid). There are calculators out there that will describe both what will happen and what the value with be.

You can't 'increase' a pot's value. You can add a resistor in series to change the end result, but AFAIK never increase the value. Just decrease.

AWESOME!

Do it, and show us the results!

I'm confused... I didn't think there was a difference between the shafts. 24mm and 16mm refers to the wafer inside the pot. There are different types of shafts, but it isn't the size of the pot that's the difference.

General Questions / Krunkee discontinued?

Brian, I just noticed this tonight... Any reason in particular? Did you get some flak or just decide not to do it anymore? Must say I'm a bit disappointed cause I wanted to build it.

yes.
