Open Discussion / Toggle flat washer source
September 20, 2018, 04:52:42 AM
Does anyone have a source for 1/4 shaft toggle flat washers?
I got a huge batch of DPDT from love my switches and they have the locking washers.
I usually order from smallbear and they have the flat washers already.
I don't want to pay 0.10-0.12 a washer, but I cannot find the correct washer at any of the online hardware places like McMaster -carr etc.  I can't really just cut the tab off as it's for production work and the other SPST toggle has a flat washer already.
Thanks!

Open Discussion / Wireless In-Ear Systems
April 02, 2014, 05:00:23 AM
I've debated about this for a while, mainly because of the cost.  I've been using a nice set of Ultimate In-Ears but I've been wired up to an Aviom system at church.  I'm pretty tired of being tied to the Aviom and have been looking off and on for a wireless system.  It just seems that there is not really any cheaper systems besides the Galaxy AS-900 which is a fixed frequency which isn't a problem since I'm always playing at the same location but I have never heard much on any of the Galaxy products.  I really don't want to spend upwards of $500 for something. Opinions?

Open Discussion / DIY'ers Rule Again
October 19, 2013, 11:52:33 AM
Dryer stopped working.  Wife said we should probably get a new one, I said I can fix it.  "Really" she says, "yup" I say (money saved is money spent on music gear, I think to myself)  Fixing my dryer cost me a $30 part.  Having an appliance repairman look at it would have cost more than the appliance is worth!

I like when they do builder profiles.  No credit given to the DIY community either, not that I'm surprised in this case.

Build Reports / Now with more chunk!
July 27, 2013, 08:06:55 AM
I used to own a dual rectifier so I decided to build a chunk chunk because I was feeling sentimental (plus I have not built a fully finished pedal for myself for a long time).  It's a pretty much stock chunk chunk but I shoehorned it in a 125B.  I did change C11 to a 10nF for less fizz.  The "clickless" bypass is my own programmed attiny and PCB.  The pedal is biased to taste with J201's from tayda (less gain).  They are actually biased a bit lower than 4.5V as I did it per ear to where I liked.  The enclosure is one I painted with some light blue rustolium hammertone.  Graphics are waterslide.

The pedal sounds fantastic and is whisper quiet even with the gain fully clockwise.  It does envoke the flavor of the mesa dual rec so I'm pretty happy!

General Questions / Guitar swing fail
June 06, 2013, 10:16:01 AM
Ever have this happen?  Yikes, he really got some air!  This is why I don't do guitar stunts, even with strap locks...

The action is past the 1 min mark.

Why can't I stop buying dang commercial pedals.

I think I've bought more commercial pedals after I started building than before.

The latest is a Supa Puss on the way  ???  Why can't I resist delays... huh

Open Discussion / Acoustic Guitar

In the next 6 months or so I'd like to sell some unused gear and purchase a new acoustic.  I have a takamine that sounds fantastic, plugged and unplugged but I don't enjoy playing it.  Mainly because of the size its a rather large dreadnought and I just find the size uncomfortable to play.

I'm not sure what my budget will be but I'd be in the 1k-2k range based on what I can sell.

I prefer a more slim style even though I'd sacrifice some projection.  Any thoughts?  I do have a favor towards martins but I'm not even sure what in there lineup would fit the bill.

Open Discussion / Normally not something I post..
October 20, 2012, 09:51:18 AM
I normally don't post gear purchases.

A) because my GAS has slowed since becoming more involved in DIY

B) I just don't  :)

But.. today I had one of those rare occurrences that never happens to me.  I'm the lucky one who got an unbelievable deal.

Wife was going through yard sales looking for a small chair for our daughter.

I just got home from work and my phone rings.. "hey I drove by this place and they music stuff for sale"  They are just putting the stuff out now.  (it was late am)  Okay I said, let me know if anything looks interesting.  Not expecting her to call back, I got a call and she said "they have pedals, guitars, and old amps, seems like something you'd like."  I say "okay, on my way!"

I hang up, hop in the truck and beeline to the place.  Even though I was still hesitant that there would be stuff worth purchasing at a yard sale and if it was they'd be asking big bucks.  But I did happen to have some cash on hand, which I never do.  But fate would have it that he had some good stuff cheap.

This is what I scooped up... guy was going through a rough time and just needed to get rid of the stuff!

2002 reissue deluxe electric mistress
misc Boss pedals, not a boss guy but cheap
boomerang +
and a ...
'68 Bassman Silverface "Dripline" (runs a little hotter than I think it should, but sweet sounding)

all for a song!  Now I'm indebted to my wife  8)

Build Reports / Couple of Baby's - Smoothie content
September 05, 2012, 04:56:17 AM
I sold my set of baby builds for a song a couple weeks back to pay for some pending bills.  While I don't usually build for others, the buyer wanted a few more to complete the set so I agreed.  The clock of tone is based on this.  http://revolutiondeux.blogspot.com/2008/02/clock-of-tone-50-modifed-cot50.html  Layout is my own.  Smoothie has the switchable vibe mod.

Open Discussion / A shout out for the weener wah
June 12, 2012, 05:45:57 PM
Bought a weener wah pcb since I had an old Vox 847 skeleton laying around.  I didn't really know what to expect.  I don't use wah a whole lot right now in my playing situation but now I HAVE TO!

The weener sounded awesome  :o  Now I've got the shell torn apart to repaint etc because the stock vox shell did not do the circuit justice.

If you're on the fence about the weener.  Just do it.  Couldn't stop playing it, my wife was um....tired of waka wahka

Open Discussion / Amp build discussion
June 01, 2012, 04:50:34 AM
To all the DIY amp heads out there.

I've been really tempted to buy the TC-15 kit from Trinity.  My problem is that by the time you buy the kit, transformers, tubes, and premade cab + speaker for the thing you're about up to 1k.  You can buy a pretty nice finished amp for that kind of money.  I've been looking at the morgan 10PM, but they are pretty much non-existent on the used market.  I've got my heart set on the voxy brit sound and have the DIY itch.

Any ways to save money?  Obviously building a DIY cab would save money.  But I'm not sure I can tolex the thing to be presentable.  I'm horrible at wrapping Christmas presents for example....  I've also never built a cab.  I've got some skills with woodworking but nothing to write home about.    Trinity also recommends the tone tubby speakers with there stuff which is obviously an expensive choice as well.

Thoughts?
