Mods / Cave dweller fabbed board trim mod for 1590a
April 28, 2012, 09:49:38 AM
Just an FYI.  Check the fit of your cave dweller fabbed board if placing in a 1590A.  Mine needed carefully trimmed on one of the outside edges to fit in a 1590A.  I have a NS 1590a but I also tried a hammond 1590a.  Unfortunately mine was already populated but it will be much easier to trim if needed before it gets populated.  Just some light sanding should do it, be careful not to sand to far into the ground pour.  I choose the left side so the regulator and large caps move away from the lid ridge when closed.

Build Reports / Rub-a-Dub Reverb
April 08, 2012, 05:09:39 AM
This one went from breadboard to pedal...  It's a simple reverb utilizing the smaller Accutronics BTDR-2H "Brick".  This build is in a 125B, but the circuit will fit in a 1590B without a problem. (No battery though)  It's for a friend who plays electric violin and he needs a little bigger pedal to stomp on  ;)

Now I need one for me because it sounds spectacular.

Open Discussion / Taptation

Has anyone had the pleasure of building a pt2399 delay utilizing the Taptation?  If so, how do you like it?

Had the board populated for a while.  Finally got around to finishing it.  I haven't yet been able to transport yet though.

But...it does make time and space collide when I spin the feedback knob with my foot.

Build Reports / Simply a Sea Urchin

Really great little delay!!!

If you build one don't forget to add a pull down resistor on the output  ;)

I've been working on getting help for my delay addiction.  I've sold a few but I still have a draw to delays over other pedals.  I've resisted the new Timeline so I think I'm doing ok.

I've had in the past two years.  The ones with * I still have.  I do believe I'm forgetting one or two as well.

Deluxe Memory Boy
Malekko EKKO 616
Line 6 DL4
DD3
Roland RE-201*
Echoplex EP-4*
Echobase*
Dirtbag (x2)**
Sea Urchin*
Aquaboy (x2)**
El Capistan*
Damage Control Timeline
Eventide Timefactor
Carbon Copy (x2)*

Ouch... I don't even play using delay that much.  ???

Hmm, I need a DIY tap tempo to round things off  ::)

AHHH, HELP!

Audio/Video Demos / Dirtbag Delay
October 19, 2011, 07:49:28 PM
Finished re-boxing the Dirtbag.  Moved the jack location and no more clicking!  Sorry for the rough demo.  I've never done one before and it's an unedited first take with whatever goofs happened  ;D  Sorry as well for the tele headstock in your face, but at least you'll get an idea of the delay.  I hope.  Demos ain't my thing.

Guitar: Tele partscaster w/ Fender vintage reissue pickups
Amp: Orange Tiny Terror set clean into an Orange 1x12" cab w/V30
Drive pedals used: aristocrat and glitterattii
Video and audio from a little handheld Kodak z18

At around 5:30min I did compare the Dirtbay delay to the aquaboy.  The repeats are much darker on the aquaboy.

There is no status indicator on the Dirtbag for On/Off, it's the overload LED.  Everything is like the original, non-true bypass and all.  :)

I hope everyone at least enjoys the video a little  ;)  I only did a short oscillation segment...kids in bed  :(

Pretty cool pedals this company offers.  It's nice to see innovative stuff like this.  I'd love to build something similar to the Melusine phonograph simulator.  There is a gut shot of it here http://www.hexeguitar.com/pedals-melcustom_e  but I wouldn't even know where to begin.  Looks like some tl074's in there, surface mount resistors on the underside shot.  There is some other cool pedals on the site as well.  The stuff isn't cheap but looks well made.

Been off the forum for a couple days gigging with this new build  ;)

This is our third and final build...  Three builds of this caliber are enough to keep me busy  ;D

Open Discussion / PPP stocked enclosures
September 21, 2011, 07:04:38 AM
It's nice to see pedal parts plus carrying some stocked powder coated enclosures now.  The selection isn't huge but it will be a great alternative to waiting a couple weeks for their enclosures.  In my opinion they have the best quality control.  Just my two cents and I thought I'd pass on the info.

Open Discussion / Ugliest Pedal Thread

Just a fun thread on visually ugly pedals.  They can be ugly in a good way or a bad way.  ;D

I'll start with this hideous looking beast...

Haven't seen one of these in the build reports for a while.  Just built this one in the last few hours after I finished the Double Flush.  It's a snarkdoodle, red llama specs, no boost.  I got the pcb to fit in a 1590a even though it wasn't intended that way plus I used up those BYOC knobs  ;D  I could build about 10 of these in the time it took for the dirtbag. Sounds surprisingly good for what it is!  I called it "short stack". That's what I call my daughter because she's small for her age and it seemed fitting for this pedal.

Build Reports / Double Flush - Trem
August 28, 2011, 01:11:06 PM
Finished up a double flush...no not that kind of double flush  ;)

I had to toy with the LED for the LDR.  I went with a red in the end because it sounded the best.

I stuck the status/pulsing LED in one of those clear shaft pots from mouser and a clear Davies knob clone.  It worked out pretty good.  It's hard to see in the picture, but its very prominent when it's blinking.

I may do a small faceplate or I may just leave it as is  ;D

Build Reports / Dirtbag Delay
August 17, 2011, 04:37:58 AM
Teaser build  ;)

Prototype board complements of Brian!  This build is a beast.  Fired up on the first try and I really took my time checking every resistor and cap on this build.  Enclosure is a 125-BB with an etched aluminum plate.  It sounds awesome and the modulation can get real crazy!  Genuine mn3005's in their finest circuit.  It's a buffered bypass but it sounds great at the end of my chain.  Thanks again Brian!

Here it is!  Enjoy  :) Josh

Build Reports / Rare Zygote Sighting

Here we have the near extinct zygote...

Props to "Bean" for the Holiday P.I.F. board and thanks to cjkbug for the pnp germ transistors and mojo stuff via a trade.   It was a tight fit ;D

Positive ground at it's finest.
