Somebody please tell me what this is. Its the only photo I have of it and I can't make it out. Been looking online for a match and having no luck.

I have a couple of pedals, a Jekyl and Hyde and a Keeley Time Machine, that someone (not me, I swear) hooked AC power to, instead of DC. Are they repairable? Does anyone know what to look for, besides melted parts?

I'm thinking about building an amp, 10 watts or less. First amp build, so maybe a kit would be a good idea. Anyone have any advice or suggestions on where to start?
Thanks

General Questions / Sunking Bass Knob

In addition to the treble control, is it possible to add a bass control knob to a sunking? What is the best way?

Open Discussion / Cusack More Louder
May 16, 2014, 07:25:02 PM
Got asked by a friend if I could build him a More Louder clean boost. I can't find anything on it. Has anyone built one before, or know where a schem might be hiding?

Open Discussion / DPDT switch damage
May 16, 2014, 05:41:29 PM
I've done this a couple of times to the x wing style DPDT switch... I accidentally overheated one of the "wings" and it melted the plastic housing, causing the wing to sag. I pushed it back into place while the plastic was still soft and it seems to be okay. I don't know anything about the internals of the switch, so I'm wondering if this is actually fine, or if I need to replace the switch. It seems to work.

General Questions / Unclean Klone
April 17, 2014, 01:37:13 AM
I'm having trouble with a couple of klones I just built. They are the tagboard ones, and they both have the same problem. I don't know, maybe they just sound this way. Its strange that it would happen to two of them. Anyway, the problem is that with the gain off, and volume at any position, the sound is still very dirty. I assume it should be clean and clear with the gain off. At least thats how the actual Centaur sounds. I've been over the values and solder joints and knifed the gaps again and again just to make sure I haven't made a simple error, but I can't find anything obvious.

I would also like to know if it should cut low end, because it is doing that, too.

Here are the voltages:
IC1:
1. 4.53
2. 4.53
3. 1.23
4. 0.00
5. 4.42
6. 4.53
7. 4.59
8. 9.05

IC2:
1. 4.60
2. 4.53
3. 4.47
4. -8.48
5. 4.47
6. 4.53
7. 4.45
8. 17.14

IC3:
1. 9.05
2. 3.93
3. 0.00
4. -4.79
5. -8.48
6. 4.48
7. 3.80
8. 9.05

As a side note, I also built the Bare Bones version of this build, without the charge pump, and it sounds great. Clean when it should be with great gain when its turned up. It also doesn't cut the low end.

Any thoughts or advice is very welcome and appreciated.

Open Discussion / PC Ribbon cable
April 12, 2014, 11:09:00 PM
So has anyone taken the IDE ribbon from a computer and repurposed it for use in pedals? Just wondering if it is doable or if the cable won't work as well for some reason.

Open Discussion / Waterslide paper
April 10, 2014, 09:07:14 PM
So I've used the Testors waterslide paper from the hobby store, recently I ordered some from small bear and it appears to be the exact same paper, different size. I just wanted to see if maybe they were all the same, or if some are and some aren't. If anyone who has purchased water slide paper from PPP or Papillo or anywhere else could chime in... Yeeeah, that would be great. Thank you.

Here's a sample of the Testor's / Small Bear decal paper:

I'm building a Klone from tagboard that is making some odd noise at full gain. It sounds great at all other settings. I'm wondering if low quality components can cause this, or is it just clipping, which is sort of expected? Mainly I'm curious if its because I used some cheap diodes.  The layout calls for 1N277 diodes which, for some reason, were somewhat difficult to find at a decent price. I found some 1N277 from a supplier at a good price, but know nothing of the quality. I also made a large Tayda order and around that time and got my 1N4742 while I was at it. The pedal sounds good until you turn the gain all the way up and it starts to break up and fizzle. I've never had a pedal clip before, but maybe thats it? If not, I have another problem. I am wondering if I need to experiment with different diodes or swap in a different IC, or if the pedal just sounds that way. I've gone through the other usual troubleshooting checks and varifications and I don't find any other problems.

Any thoughts or advice welcome. I'm still new to this, and have no frame of reference on Klons, either.

General Questions / DPDT switch wiring
April 03, 2014, 07:33:20 PM
I'm building the buffered bypass version of the simplified centaur from tagboard. Find it here:

http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2012/03/klon-centaur-bare-bones.html?showComment=1396552192981#c3522234994566461261.

I'm a bit confused by the diagram. I'm trying to wire this up, but don't know what to do with "Output Jack & Sw5" and "Volume 2 and Sw6". Do I put two wires in the board, or go to the jack and then the switch, or the switch and then the jack? There are two wires to Sw4, do they both go to the switch lug? Do any jumpers go on the switch? Just need some help wiring the switch altogether. This is my first vero attempt and first use of DPDT switch.

Thanks for the help!

Open Discussion / This pedal makes life easy

Maybe some of you have seen this already. It may even be posted here already, but I had to do it.

I could really use this sometimes.

I'm making my first attempt at a stripboard circuit... I'm using a layout from tagboard, but was looking at the diagram and thought of something. They show the stripboard looking at the component side, and they show the cuts and links from the component side. But you cant mark the cuts on the component side and easily tell where your marks are on the copper side. So I was wondering if there is a trick to this, or if you just have to keep flipping back and forth and checking, or if you mirror the image so you can reference it from the right direction to mark the copper side? Does that make sense?
Thanks!!!!

Open Discussion / Finding schematics
March 31, 2014, 02:50:53 AM
I have a Vox AC50CP2 that I love. I would like to find a scematic for it to build a pedal based on the hi gain channel, but cant find a schematic for it. I have only done internet searches, and I dont know if there are other resources for finding original schematics. Anyone have any advice for finding the info?
Thanks

Just wondering if anyone has built the Klon Centaur simplified layout at tagboardeffects located here:

http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2012/03/klon-centaur-bare-bones.html

Any comments on its sound or advice on building it? It will be my first attempt at a vero layout.

General Questions / Smoothie with vibe mod
March 19, 2014, 01:39:13 AM
Built my smoothie, added the vibe mod, per the layout below. I can't tell much difference besides one seems brighter than the other. Do I need to adjust the trimpot, or am I missing something?

Build Reports / Cave Dweller "Vertigo Delay"
March 10, 2014, 12:11:48 PM
My second 1590A project. I feel like I'm getting the hang of it. Still can't decide on knobs. I'll probably just use some plain black ones.

This is also my best experience with inkjet waterslide graphics. From now on, I think I'll be using white and cream enclosures when I want to create graphics. This art is a bit of a copyright infringement, but I'm not selling them, so I don' t care.

This delay sounds awesome. I love the dark, medium-fi sound it has. I have lots of fun just making noise with the dwell and time knobs. This is a must build, IMO. Everyone should have one of these.

MXR La Machine...
So, what is this pedal based on? I'd love to build something that sounds like it. Its a fuzz, but sounds like it has a lot more to it.

Mods / Infinite decay switch on Cave Dweller
February 05, 2014, 12:11:48 AM
Saw a video on youtube of someone that added a momentary switch to hold down for infinite decay. Does anyone know how to do this? Is it just hooked to the pot?

The last several orders I made with Mammoth are very slow to process, like 4 to 5 days before they even ship. Anyone else seeing this from them?
