Timko, great work on the preamp enclosure!  I love the graphic, since I experienced the same earthquake!   I have been making these preamps for about a year now, and each one, including the sub-miniature tube versions have been solid as a rock.  I think if I ever create a new version of PCB, I may move the capacitors that caused your problem from behind that potentiometer.  The problem can be avoided, but there is that potential for shorting if that tab is not clipped off the potentiometer or, the cap leads are a bit too long.  Live and learn!  I agree that loading up the board components is fairly simple.  I think the boxing in the enclosure is the more complicated part.  Regarding using with the bass guitar,  I love it on my bass.  You can really eq the bass pretty easily.  This same circuit, (Alembic F2b) the one that David Gilmour uses, was borrowed from Roger Waters (bassist) by his guitar tech.  They are still used in his studio as far as I know.  I always wondered if Roger ever got them back or bought some more....

99% of the guitar stuff you buy now is made in China, even if you go with an American made guitar, the components are probably not made in the US, so, that being said, there is crappy stuff that is made in China, and some pretty decent stuff.  I have purchased a few things from GFS and frankly, it is pretty good stuff.  If you get a neck or things like that, you are probably going to have to do a fret dressing job.  The fret ends are a little sharp and there is no dressing done, so, you get what you pay for, basically a decent item that may need a little TLC before you are done.   I like GFS.  I also got some good necks from edenguitars.com  I like them too, but same issue with the fit and finish.  You are going to have to put a little time and "elbow grease" into it.  If you do, you will have a great neck.   I am real interested in a set neck tele or something like that and the price is reasonable!  My two cents.

Another preamp I am doing, is the Aionelectronics Lab series L5 preamp.  It is a huge board and comes with 2 daughter boards and a label.  He does great work!

I'm jealous!  I love nixie clocks but haven't had the guts (or time) to build one.  I do have a nixie type power supply PCB I created which is stand alone.  It can put out around 200VDC at 20ma.  I used the same design in my Frog Tube Preamp PCB and it is very reliable.  Looks like these power supplies were built into the Nixie Clock board though.  What is the total heater current on a typical nixie clock?

I have been using a 5x8 bubble mailer and printing shipping labels out of Paypal.  The labels which include the international required customs form are very professional looking, and so far, they haven't been scrutinized very closely.  I am rounding up the next ounce and paying for large envelope, First Class mail.  I will know in the next week or so if the post office has any issue with that.
