Open Discussion / Best custom toggle switch ring ever?
December 12, 2017, 12:10:08 AM
I wired up a lefty american strat for a friend last week, two hums. wanted a toggle switch. He went and got the following custom toggle switch ring for it. If you think that's "WTF" then you should meet the guy at open mic who wrote a song about "f-ing and yodelling". (not the guy who had the work done) You can't make this stuff up folks.

Open Discussion / Marshall style kit?
November 25, 2017, 10:48:25 PM
I say marshall but I want a high gain style circuit preferably in kit form as I won't have to source parts. Any suggestions? A friend has an outlaw effects plexi style pedal "deputy marshall" (dont' know what circuit) that I am digging. Any other high gains circuits I should look at?

I get their e-mails. I think I singed up out of pure curiosity. They got complaints they didn't have enough "cheap" parts so they now offer cheap strat and tele bridges. So I buy my extremely high end clapton signature "blackie" neck, stick it on a low end squire body with cheap parts, cheap tuners, get a MIM pickguard assembly (because I don't want that too cheap) and go to town. I now have a very mutt guitar. Am I the only one who doesn't get the appeal? You wouldn't buy all the same parts to the same model guitar to re-build it back again, so they obviously expect people to buy random parts. They seem encourage mutt building. I get it for neck replacements or whatever, but it still kinda makes me wonder. Wouldn't you want the same level quality on all your parts? Obviously Gibson and Fender can't be happy with it, and I wonder if they've been sued yet.. It feels very shrewd and shady and skeevy to me. "Hey buddy, real fender necks, logo and everythin'! HOT!" What are other opinions?

So say hypothetically Dave Grohl owned the infamous snare he used on nevermind (he doesn't it was a famous rental) and was now planning on selling it. He makes one of those nice reverb videos (not knocking those) where he casually goes "this is the nevermind snare.. THAT one..". He goes on to state his intent on selling the gear is he wants it to be appreciated and used. Now what's to say a guy with a large pocketbook who doesn't even play drums doesn't buy the snare just to keep as an expensive trophy? "Yah Brah, have the Nevermind snare.. yea THAT ONE.. no.. too special to use you'd ruin it somehow, I keep it in a display case" As the artist do you just shrug and go "welp he paid for it.."? Or say some guitar rockstar sells HIS certain pedal that is no different than another used one on ebay, like say a tubescreamer. Are you buying it just because HE used it? What if he initially prices it at used market value but superfans get in a stupid bidding war? Does he just go "welp more money for me!"

My personal opinion being that no you can't stop people from doing that but it sucks when they state they want someone to enjoy it and some idiot superfan or big-pocketed douchebag just blows money it. What are other people's thoughts?

... I wonder how many people get confused since his name is Rob Keeler and not Rob Keeley. He uses that overdone boutique script on his pedals too. Maybe it's intentional. Still funny though. "I met that Keeler guy at NAMM you harp on about!" "NO NO KEELEY, Robert KEELEY! Who the hell is Keeler?!"

Open Discussion / the MBV reverse delay sound
November 08, 2016, 01:46:58 AM
purchased a digitech x-series digiverb for it's reverse reverb setting (few pedals do this) to get that My Bloody Valentine Keven Shields thing going. Now two youtube vids contradict each other once says before the distortion, one says after. Is anyone here into that of has done this? I can't get get that vibe going for the life of me

EDIT: reverse REVERB not reverse delay my bad

Open Discussion / So I know a cork-sniffer.
May 13, 2016, 11:27:55 PM
Part of me wanted to totally make him a "spice box" and charge him $350 for it just to prove what a cork-sniffer he is. But instead I loaned him all my pedal books and I've been trying to de-mojo. He thinks I'm some sort of tone god now that I "make" (um it's build) pedals. Part of me still wants to encase some funky old wire in a cube of black goop, tell him it's my latest tone creation and see if he bites. But dammit I'm too nice.

Tech Help - Projects Page / GGG micro V problem
May 05, 2015, 11:14:07 PM
First is the pedal does not function correctly. When first powered on the effects works, but after a minute or less the effect dissapears. Could either of the ICs be bad? It was built stock from stock form a kit using supplied parts, minus one 10uf elctrolytic cap that was not in the kit, there was however a 47uf cap. I decided to stick with the build document and use the 10uf which I happened to have. Any help appreciated, I'm completely lost at debugging effects.

Open Discussion / I wish GGG had a support forum

I have a mu-tron micro-v clone not working properly and I suspect Mr. Sleep is too tied up for detailed support. Maybe I dove in too fast?
