Hey guys,

I´m finishing up on my Deadringer and now planning the decal. I´m having difficulty understanding which switch connections, according Brian´s drawing in the project file, on the DPDT are CC, FM, or VIN.

I assume the middle position would be FM.....anyone have an idea about the others ?

Thanks guys. Great suggestions !

I´ll be looking into all of those. I would like to build him something that the BYOC RAT can´t give him though, so I´ll have to start comparing...

thanks

I love my wife (who wouldn´t ?).

She loves to hear about my projects, and gives suggestions on how to finish them. She even likes to hear how they work.

Every once in a while I´ll be downstairs and I´ll hear this incredibly loud, whining, howling, screaming sort of noise coming from upstairs (and it´s not the neighbor visiting). She´ll be playing with everything that can make weird noises and oscillate.

She even buys me a pedal every year for our anniversary.

Two weeks ago I was on a 5 day tour and had some time to visit a music store in cologne, germany. Found this great playing Epi Les Paul SC with two p90´s, it was hard to leave the store without it but I did. Later that day I told my wife about it from the hotel. 4 days later I´m home and there´s that same guitar staring at me.... ;D That´s what I mean, who wouldn´t love my wife....?

Hi CRBMoA,

you´re the only bass player that I know of around these parts so I directed my questions to you, but if someone else has a suggestion I´m ready to hear it....

I build a BYOC Rat a couple of years ago, and last year I did some mods to it and gave it to a bass playing friend that was looking for the tone of EODM´s bass player. He loved it, and uses it all the time. I´m getting it back for some repairs though, and I would like to give him another pedal when I finish the repairs.

Sooooo, since I´m not a bass player....what´s the ultimate pedal for bass (diy) that you can think of ?

I would love to hear some suggestions. (I also hope they won´t be too complicated since I´m stressed for time a little lately..)

Thanks guys !

Hi cb,

I don´t know what you´re willing to spend, but this one is supposed to have all book with it....

I´ll be on the lookout for any others.

It usually takes at least 5 business days sometimes as much as 9 business days for me to get orders.

Really, that long ? Normally I have my order about 5 or 6 days after placing it, and I´m in Amsterdam.... ???

That looks really cool !

I like your Grolsch strap-lock idea too; I think I´m going  to copy that if you don´t mind. I had the Schallers as well on my guitars, but kept taking them off because of the rattling.

How do you like using the pot for the coiltap ?

The BOOST isn't normally wired up a pot on the outside of the enclosure, but as a trimpot on the board (set to your liking, and forget about it). You could of course move it to the outside and use a normal pot...

I'm not familiar with this cicrcuit so I can't comment on how it is best used though, sorry.

Hey, good to hear that you got it working.

Looks very nice as well. Those are my all time favorite knobs, I like them on practically everything.

Build Reports / Sunking
August 22, 2010, 04:59:45 PM
hi guys,

I just finished my Sunking and I thought I would show it to you. I still need to paint the lid and change the knobs to some dark brown ones, but I think it worked out OK. Sorry I'm not as creative as most of you guys with the finish. I guess I don't want to be second guessing which pedal is supposed to be a clone of.

It worked like a charm the first time, and I'm loving it. It is a little bit noisy when you turn the gain up, but I guess that is to be expected with these IC´s.

I also included a picture of something that took a little bit longer than a couple of weeks. My new born baby boy: Aiden Ilja Alexander born on 9 August 2010.

Hmm,

the longer lead is + (anode), the shorter one on the flat side of the led - (cathode). The cathode should go in the square pad.

I don´t see anything wrong with the layout though. Have you looked at how you wired up power to the pedal, or the switch wiring ?

Hi, I can´t spot any solder bridges either on your picture. It may help to clean it though, I always use a hard or medium toothbrush and some 96% alcohol. Gets rid of the flux residue, and any small balls of solder that might be sticking between traces.

I may have already tried this, but I noticed you are using the same color wire for every connection on one pot, it´s easy to get mixed up. Have you checked your wiring ?

I hope  you get it up and running.

Thanks guys !

I knew about the lug numbering, but I guess my brain really was mush yesterday. I kept thinking of the stereo pot as one pot....but thanks to your help, a couple of hours sleep, and about a gallon of coffee ; I see the light !

btw: Thanks for your kind words. His name is Aiden Ilja Alexander, born 09.August.2010 at 11:11hr. I hope he grows up like his big sister Alyssa (nearly 2 now) who rocks out to Hendrix, The White Stripes, and any good blues she hears !

Hey guys,

I´m looking at my sunking diagram, but my brain isn´t functioning as it should anymore. This build my wife has been working on for the last 9 months, decided he was finished last monday (expect pictures soon, I still want to clearcoat him first..) so we had to rush to the hospital and sleep has been a luxury since then.....

Please help me understand which row of lugs on the gain pot  belongs to gain 1, and which to gain 2...

Thanks !

General Questions / Re: Cap tolerance (Sunking)

Quote from: CRBMoA on August 06, 2010, 09:59:23 PM
I bought and built a capacitance tester last spring. I judiciously test every cap and resistor, once when I assemble my bits, and right before I solder them in.

I do this to justify sending $10.00 to Hong Kong for a tester kit. I have kept myself from putting the completely wrong cap in the wrong place, but I have never detected a difference in tolerances. Generally, 10% is acceptable, and many electros don't even get THAT close.

Yeah, that's why I found it a little bit weird. In 3 years, I never had a part (resistor, cap, or anything) that measured significantly different than the mentioned value....

You what's even weirder ?

I paired these caps with some other ceramics to get close to the specified value. Gt it up to 820 (should be 820) en 390 (spot on). soldered the caos together, and before soldering them to the board, measured them once again........980pf, and 460pf...WTF ?

Took of the extra caps again, and measured the original ones...800, and 380. Close enough to the specified value; but completely different from what they measured before.....
