I don't know the answer to your question but if you use a socket it wouldn't hurt to try. Report back if you attemp it.

That, my friend, is shit-hot pedal building!

Thanks for all of the great compliments guys, and a high compliment from the man himself  :D

could you explain the leds in a bit more detail?

your friend is lucky, I want one!

There isn't anything to explain really. They are color changing leds, controlled via PWM (or at least i think.) They hook up like any other LED, doesn't take anything special to get them going. I DO NOT RECOMMEND them, they do introduce a whine in your signal and unless your looking for weird (feedback loop) then it is very undesirable.

Actually you can correct this issue by connecting a polarized cap in reverse to the LED so that it filters the noise...I have done this successfully by using a 33uF I believe...just use your ear and try different caps and crank it up...if you still hear the buzzing noise increase the value...but in my case a 33uF was enough...

thanks for the advise. I have tried this before with some success but never really resolved the issue. I tried it in a phase 90 build and went all the way up to 220uf. the noise became softer but was still present. the issues was not important enough for me to purse further. i just used a normal led.

I'm not either really, I like to do both  :D At this point I enjoy building more than I enjoy playing.

There have been a few giveaways---the Road Rages in December with every order. Last month I did some components with all Sunking orders. The thing about having a special bonus PCB is that not everyone will necessarily want it which would be wasteful. And, no doubt I would forget who I've sent one to! But, perhaps a different kind of "utility" PCB could be done.

I'm for giveaways from time to time. It's fun for me, actually! Given that there have been zero of the new stickers ordered as of yet, they may well start ending up in a lot of envelopes!!

I just haven't got around to ordering my new boards. just finished my rat so I will be ordering soon. I will be ordering a couple of stickers :)

Sorry no gut shots. I forgot before my friend got a hold of it and now it belongs to him. The rats eyes blink different colors and at different rates. The eyes only light up when the feedback loop is engaged. Normally these type of leds induce a strange sound into the signal but in a feedback loop you want strange  ;D and when the loop is off the leds are not drawing power to induce noise so it all works out. The switch is for the ruetz mod. Dual outputs per the request on my friend.

Brian has also been known to surprise you with some freebies occasionally.  I've received some mojo caps and opamps in my board packages in the past.

Ditto, I received a "bonus" once.

I'm not trying to sound rude but if I am I appologize in advance. I think what Brian charges is more than fair and honestly cheaper than other competing products despite being on par or even better. Brian provides ALOT of free content to the diy community and goes out of his way to help others. I can and often do etch my own boards, but if Brian offers a board I am interested I will purchase and support him.

I can't remember what I paid for my board holder. I think the clip was $0.50. The wood and the screws I had lying around.

I have a panavise and helping hands (same concept as the picture above) I use the cheaper alligator clip type device more often. the twisting of the panavise requires more effort and time than the clips. Just my two cents.

Well done! I love the little guy on there. Now post it on TGP anonymously and say it's "the new Klon"!!

:D I'm sure i would get some chuckles and then several $400 orders for a simple buffer  ;D

I wonder how one would go about making one of these with a switch to turn it on and off?

easy, just replace any of circuit boards in madbeans true-bypass builds with the buffer and you have it.

I wish I could take credit for the artwork but I found it online and played around with it. As far as coloring the sound, i was never very good at putting what i hear into words. I asked my wife what the sound difference to her ears was, and after she got don't looking at me like i crazy she said " The second one (the buffer) sounds like there is bells in the sound " which i think describes what happens very well. To use a very overused term in pedal jargon, it makes the signal "shimmery"  ;D I should point out that i don't know if this is "coloring" the sound or if it is just bring back the original sound that was affected by long cable lengths and true-bypass pedals.
