Build Reports / Re: Mitsubachi Drive (Yellow Shark)

thanks guys!  The bigger one is the Drive knob.  Sometimes I wanted to adjust it up and down with my foot while I'm playing so I thought having it bigger and offset would make that easier.

Build Reports / Mitsubachi Drive (Yellow Shark)

Hey guys,

I finally got this out of the test enclosure and into the real one.  I've been really pleased with the way this pedal sounds.  It's got just the right range of overdrive for what I need and the tone control is pretty cool. Shoulda got two of these boards!  :P

lots of nice-looking stuff.  The 1N34As look like the ones that Futurlec sells at .50 for 10. I remember there was some discussion over at FSB about these small ones versus the larger clear ones that Small Bear stocks but I can't remember what the general consensus was.

thanks! I tried to keep things tidy this time, it was actually kind of painful since I'm not really that good at it. It's funny, I was trying this out with my amp after I got it built and got an "inquiry" from the neighbor in the house next door ("I didn't know you played guitar, we heard it the other night. . .").  Also several "noise complaints" from my 15 year-old Dalmatian; whenever I would start playing this thing she would come into the room and glare at me. It sounds really good to me though, lol!

those are Ohmite dials I got from Mouser.  I wish I could figure out a way to make them myself, the Mouser shipping makes them kind of expensive. But I like the way they look and they're easy to work with.

Build Reports / Surprise! Another Darkside!

Hi Folks,

Here are few pix of my Darkside build. I had a couple knob options I tried and still am not sure which I like best. This is probably the most complicated build I've done, but in spite of my numerous mistakes it came out pretty much ok and sounds very good.  I did the suggested cap mods and the Vol and Sus pots mods, used BAT41s and 2N5088s, very pleased with the sound!

well, here's my Darkside demo.  Sort of hurts to put it up 'cuz the playing is so awful, but you can kind of get an idea of what the pedal sounds like. My little Canon snapshot camera doesn't have a great mic either.  But at least I managed to keep my toes out of the frame this time ::)

You need snake skin boots and humbugies.

I was trying to make a video demo too recently and found out it's more complicated than it looks, and that I'm pretty awful at it. I didn't realize until playback that I was wearing flip-flops. It was so irritating to see a huge big toe come into the frame and click on the pedal, especially since it was my own toe.

Hi i think SLEEVES from the jacks and Circuit grounding will affect after all of the grounds on the box (enclosure) to a general GROUND as you can see output SLEEVE dont be at all connected to ground in the schematics before boxed ,try to ground S9-input sleeve-output sleeve with crocodile wires and see if the problem is fixed.

that worked! Thanks for the tip, the hum disappeared!

Hi Folks,
I got my Darkside wired up and in an effort to "rock before I box" I have it taped down on a cutting board while I plugged in to try it out.  It seems like everything is working correctly except I'm getting a really, really loud hum over top of everything.  It sounds like some kind of a grounding issue, would that most likely go away once I got it all into an enclosure or do I need to trouble-shoot some more?  The pedal sounds good, except for the hum  :-\

thanks,
Gray

I have a '64 Fender Bandmaster head (40 watts or so) that I used to run into an Ampeg V-4 4x12 cab back in the day.  I found out that I could use a splitter to run signal into both inputs, turn everything on 10, and get some of the sweetest power tube overdrive I've heard. And yes, it did tend to get pretty loud.  ;D

There actually might be two vibe projects. One for a 125B and another for either a wah shell or 1590BB :) They will most likely have somewhat different features.

2 vibes.  :o  crap. I gotta unsubscribe from this thread, it's killing me!   :)

I think you're making the right decision.  You already have established a rep for high quality, so it's time to start making your own mark. Personally, I would rather build a cool project that's somewhat unique & customized. Looking forward to your new stuff!! I like new.  :)
