yeah the 1MC might be worth a try, the tone is definitely there otherwise

Yeah they do seem a lot more over the top in the Catalinbread vids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qU6CANrz2_I&feature=channel_page Of course tuning the guitar down helps get that sound.  I'm a little mystified about the sound they get based on how they set the controls though.  When I set my controls like theirs I don't get anything like the sound in the vids, especially on the cleaner settings. Would types of pots make that much difference, analog vs. linear?

Well, bottom line is the Faultline is still a great-sounding pedal that I'll definitely be hanging on to.

On my Faultline , the gain seems to be very interactive with the Treble control.  If I turn the Treb down to the 12:00 range I don't get much gain out of it, but at 4 or 5:00 it gets pretty hairy.  I did the 100kB mod for the Vol pot but not the Gain mod.

OK, thanks for the advice guys.  I'm just trying to keep my parts sources to as few vendors as possible so the shipping doesn't end up being more than the parts themselves  :D  If those values will make or break the sound I would try to source them but if the subs would get me close I could probably live with it.

thanks again guys!

Hi Madbean,

I'm looking at ordering parts for the Grapevine through Futurlec and the closest values they have for the 50nf and 3nf caps are 0.047uF or 0.056uF, and 0.0027uF or 0.0033uF.  Is it critical to the sound to have exact values in these cases? I haven't quite figured out how to successfully use the Mouser site yet so trying to put a whole order together over there seems a little daunting.

thanks!

The enclosure is from PPP in their Silver Vein finish. I like the way it looks and it seems pretty durable.  Those caps are some that I rescued from an old dead Ibanez Soundtank pedal.  They look very similar to these but with light grey lettering:

I was reading about the 100B pot mod on FSB so I did that to mine too, but I hadn't heard about the reverse log mod. I did notice that I had to set my volume & gain a lot different than they did in the Youtube prototype vid in order to get the same sound, there must be a difference in the proto and final version they came out with.

Build Reports / faultline

I got this one built and have been using it for a couple weeks now.  It really sounds nice.  Just a really great low-gain distortion, breaks up so good without being harsh, and definitely has what it takes when the gain is cranked up. Tone controls are voiced really well, too. The board quality & layout are great, and the build instructions, drilling template, etc., were very clear and helpful.  The only difficulty I had, which may have been a result of my drilling accuracy more than anything, was was that the in/out jacks and switch could have been moved down slightly to make the board a less tight fit. Bottom line tho, great sound. Here are some pix:
