Mono in, modultaion fx loop, return to panner, stereo out to two amps. With stereo delays this would sounds awesome.

I have my rig set up for stereo. I have the CE-3 and two Current Lovers that I use frequently. I also just discovered that BYOC had a stereo flanger at one point in time. It used dual BBDs and the phase flip trick on the second output. I've never heard one, but it does sound like an interesting idea. Playing through two Current Lovers in parallel does indeed sound better than just one (mine are in phase). I like the out of phase setting on the CE-3 for achieving that "outside the sound stage" effect. If recorded well, it sounds huge on playback. The CE-3 is quite underrated, but is a lot of fun to play. It is more subtle than a CE-2 (which I use on the right side of the stereo amp set up).

I'm not sure if anyone ever figured out what brand/style of GE diodes were used in the original. It appears there was an error in the value of that one cap in the initial tracing attempt (100pF vs. 1n). The result was a very dark sounding effect which does not at all sound like the genuine box if played side by side. It is as if the tone control has a range of 1-2 rather than 1-10, there is a ton of top end missing in the clones. Also vf of .26 seemed to be the target for sourcing germs for the circuit. Apparently with the mods done, you are not locked in to such a tight tolerance with the diodes.

I think that fixes the diode dependence issue. You may find other diode references in that thread though. It's a good read. I had a chance to play a real G2 a couple months ago. As you would suspect it is much brighter than all the clones. I find that you can use the Black Horse Duplex Drive SS2 side to EQ the G2 to sound almost identical to a real one. No gain, adjust volume and treble to taste.

Socket these components, and try these subs:

R10- 18k (was 15k)
R11- 100R (was 680R)

C5- 100pF (was 1nF, fixes the dark tone issue)

I haven't looked recently but the ubiquitous Boss CS-3 is apparently using a THAT chip for the VCA compression. The good version, the CS-2, used the obsolete BA662 if I remember correctly. These guys cloned it: http://www.openmusiclabs.com/projects/ba662-clone/index.html

I've always wondered if there were other chip options for modernizing a CS-2 style compressor.

The resistors are "house brand" for lack of a better term - I get them custom manufactured. I haven't talked much about them much, but they are 0.5% tolerance and would check all the boxes for audiophile grade. They're pricey compared to Xicon or KOA Speer but worth it to make kit building easier (no color codes to read) - and just because they're red!

They're very similar to the ones made by Precision Resistive Products like VFE used to use. It's not that brand, but the resistors themselves are pretty close in specs, if someone wanted a lead on ordering some similar ones.

Just noticed how cool those red resistors look! Attention to detail in these kits is unreal, even the jacks match the Wimas. Thanks to Gordo for the build thread, I have been curious about this project recently. Aion, are those resistors similar to the sausage brown Dale/Vishay brand?

Stra-dogs from Vineham in Canada. P90's fit for a strat! Just do two, one in the neck, one in the bridge. You'll need a pickguard with no middle position cutout, but hey, you could get a set of three!
