Is there a such thing as an app like Eagle or Kicad that instead of making a PCB view it allows you to design a point to point circuit?

... from what I've seen by looking and studying schematics, is that most pedals are a 90% clone of another that's already on the market. ...
I was just talking about this.  Are there really any new ideas?  One common emitter transistor circuit is the same as any other with maybe a resistor or capacitor value tweaked.

I'm not cutting down any builders though, I see the similarities but I can also appreciate when someone takes the time to tweak a tone stack or squeeze a bit of smoothness out of a gain circuit.

Back on topic: I like the names people come up with, especially the humorous ones.  One fine example: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=21607

I put a build together today with some MOSFETs in and I didn't leave enough lead so I can't bend them far enough down for clearance in the enclosure.

Can I snip the heatsink off?  They shouldn't get hot as I'm not using them for amplification.  I just shorted the drain and gate and am using them to clip the signal.

i still cant shop at mouser lol ..you need a  physics major and a EE doctorate to buy there ..lol

someone needs to do a mouser shopping tutorial
HAHA!  :D

I have 5 builds under my belt so far, I just winged it.  Made a few mistakes like buying a bunch of capacitors that each one would take up all the space in the enclosure I wanted to use. LOL!!

That looks right. I did the same thing with a cheap Klon kit I got off eBay.
Andrew.
Great!  I'm going to breadboard this out if it will fit. So far it looks like it would be easier to submit it to oshpark though. ;)

i think you'd be interested in the 2015 kingslayer
It would probably be an easier path but I'm trying to learn to use Eagle and modify circuits. :)  It's sure a lot of fun.

I was looking at the Klon schematic and noticed there are components in the path when the effect is off so can I just leave those out?
The original schematic:

Can I leave out these bits:

and then connect the output pot wiper to the out jack?

Yeah, I did something wrong with an order and got some huge caps.  I've got to pay attention next time. :)

General Questions / Cracked transistor
February 12, 2016, 07:28:34 PM
Bah!!!  I was just boxing up a project I guess I didn't move the transistor out of the way and while putting the screws in the enclosure I cracked the casing of the OC75.  FEH!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it still works.  so I slipped the cracked piece back on the transistor to cover the internal leads and shoved the pedal together.

Any problem with running a transistor without its covering?

As Red Green says "This is all temporary, unless it works"! :D

My solution was to just jump in and build something. Got some PCBs from OSHpark and I may have made some mistakes but that's how you learn. :)

BLMS seems to get the top reviews here!  :)  I'm sold, thanks everyone!

BLMS is where mine come from, awesome guy, you can stock up and still only pay 5.95 shipping.
Yeah, I dig that idea.  Thanks!

In the US?  I usually just add what I need to my Smallbear or Tayda order.  If I'm trying to get one with an interesting or good looking paint job I go with Pedal Parts Plus, but they're a little more expensive.  I've also ordered from Bitches Love My Switches & Mammoth, but I've a few with quality issues in the past, e.g. paint chip or screws that don't align with threads.
Yeah, sorry, I'm in the USA.  I can paint them myself so I just need the bare boxes.

Tayda and BLMS seems to have the best prices and they don't charge high shipping.  Thanks for the tips! :)

General Questions / Where are you guys buying enclosures?
February 08, 2016, 06:30:15 PM
Anyone know a nice and inexpensive place to get enclosures.  I'm looking for about 6 1590A, 2 1590LB and 3 125B.  I don't really care if they are official Hammond brand.

Where do you go?
