Hi,

If I'm repeating an ongoing forum question, I apologize. I did a search, and found nothing relating to what I'm about to ask. I haven't purchased passive parts, (resistors/Caps), for the 8 PCB's I've already bought, and THANK GOODNESS I haven't! I'd have wasted money. It seems that an MPSA18 transistor or a 1n5817 diode are just what they are. However, a 2m2 or 180k resistor, or 100n/470pf/22uf capacitor aren't what they seem to a new guy.

As a new builder, I want to do quality work, and I rely on the build documents that come with the PCB I'm about to buy. I had the good sense to email one of my main suppliers with links to components I was planning on getting, and I'm grateful I did...Because all my decisions where WRONG!

Build docs. Don't tell you that the 22uf electro cap. needs to be 5x9mm and 25VDC, (not 5x11mm and 50VDC). Is there a page somewhere that lets new builders know what limits PASSIVE components need to be in order to fit the enclosure, and properly function when the stomp is pressed?

Thanks

COOL...Thank you, for both explanations! I've just had some frustrations with passive parts, IC's and Transitiors. I keep buying one thing at one specific place, (I.E. Jameco Electric is the only place I can find a Charge Pump, but they don't have any Caps or Resistors I need). Mouser and Mammoth have been the best so far. Anyway, thanks again...

Hi,

Just starting with pedal building, and was curious about something. Why are ALL build document, (FILM), capacitors in NanoFarads when no companies carry anything but uF or pF? Found a conversion chart from the JustRadios site, so that seems to be helpful. Also, sometimes I find Caps in 5% and sometimes in 10%. If I mix does it matter?

Thanks

Thank you everyone! I want to build the "Ram's Head" first. Again, this is one of my first builds so I'm switching out the 2n5088 for a BC550, and the 1n914 for either a 1n270 or 1n34a (not sure if I want to go with a glass component.) Anyone see a problem with my decisions? Also, going to put germaniums in D3/D4 to get the octave effect. I'll be buying a few PCBs next Monday!

Hi,

Within the notes section of the build guide information for Mudbunny, it states that a good alternative is "socketing" most of the pads on the PCB to enable one to easily swap out different values and component types to adjust the tone. This makes sense, however, to a beginner I need to know IF all components have the ability to be socketed, what type of sockets to purchase, and if I just place the sockets, (following the build guide), as I would if I was using "set" values / components?

Thank you
