Brian, could you share how you created the breakout board for the ZPSDX and anything you would do differently in the future?

Thanks,

Open Discussion / Bulk-ish Solder
March 03, 2013, 05:48:55 AM
Hey Y'all, I need a US source for solder in packaging larger than Radioschack.  I prefer Silver Bearing 62/36/2, but if you have other suggestions, I am open to it.  Where do you get yours?

Open Discussion / Decimate-alike Project Help
January 25, 2013, 06:22:58 AM
Hey Guys, I put together a project for a noise suppressor for a 125B enclosure.  I have 3 boards, and I'd like some help to test it.  If anyone would like a free board to try out the circuit with me, I'd be happy to send you one.

The circuit uses the THAT2181 which is available at Small Bear.  the board was originally designed to have board mounted Neutrik jacks on the sides for I/O and the top for Send & Receive.  You should be able to make it with a true bypass switch for the whole effect including the loop, or leave the suppressor always on, and switch the loop in and out.

The only caveat is that I goofed up the Input and output Jack alignment, so you will have to use off board jacks for those, but the effects loop can be used on board.  After this gets tested by you and myself, I plan to fixed this issue and make this a DIY project for sale.

So let me know if you'd like a free board in exchange for testing it!  I only have 1 to give out.

According to this new product from Cusack, there's a new Belton brick in the works that lets you adjust room size, http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/cusack/sweetverb

Hey!  I'm looking for someone to help me out with a PCB I designed.  I basically made a 3in1 Favorite switch for the Strymons, but I don't have one myself so I'd like some help to test it out.  If you have 2 or 3 of the following: Brigadier, El Capistan, Lex or Flint then let me know, because I need your help!

The project needs a 3PDT, 3x Board Mounted Neutrik TRS jacks, 3x LEDs and 3x 10k (I believe) resistors.  It would fit in a 1090/1590A if you chose to box it.

I don't need feedback ASAP, but if you think you could do it promptly, I'd be happy to send the PCB your way.

Thanks!

Brian, or someone in the know, maybe you could tell me.

The enclosure outlines in the shared library I got from circuit workshop, is that the outline of the enclosure walls, or the outline of a board that would definitely fit inside of said enclosure?

Working on some stuff with mounted jacks so I need to get it right.  thanks!

Open Discussion / Finally, I placed an order
November 02, 2012, 05:44:12 AM
how long since the site went live and I just now placed my first order?  I guess it shows how little time I spend building effects for myself these days.  I ordered a Kingslayer, Sparkplug, & FAT Pants.  The Kingslayer will replace my original Sunking, which I use as an always on master tone & volume.  I found that with the drive on minimum, everything sounds smoother and warmer.  I'm going to put the FAT pants in my Deluxe Memory Boy's effects loop, and the Sparkplug I bought out of curiosity.

Anyway, just thought I would share.

Hey Y'all, I thought I'd tell you about this auction called STOMPOUT 2012, benefiting the American Cancer Society.  It's organized by my friend Philippe Herndon of Caroline Guitar Co.  Here are the details,

http://carolineguitar.com/stompout-2012-charity-pedal-auctions-for-the-american-cancer-society/

If you search STOMPOUT on ebay you will find all the listings.  They are going up 5 a day through wednesday.

I've donated a design of my own, the Cascade MkII Overdrive, Serial #001 along with some cool Coldcraft LOGO Clayton guitar picks.  I have not yet released the MkII yet, so this is very exciting for me to watch the auction.  Mine went live tonight, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110959691119

Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know.

can anyone compare the Barber style eq (like in madbean's new sparkplug) to the active baxandall type, like what's used in the Xotic pedals?  The baxandall is pretty neutral which I like, and I'm wondering if Barber's is more amp-like, or more OD-pedal-like or what?

Open Discussion / ISP G String Project
August 27, 2012, 06:03:20 AM
Hey yall, I'm planning to make a PCB for myself of the ISP G String project floating around.  I will have a handful of extras if people are interested and I could have more than a few made if there is interest.

I'm planning to cram it into a 1590B/1290NS using board mounted everything (and I'll supply a drilling template you can use at PPP if you'd like).  I haven't laid out the board yet, so I don't know what the price would be yet, but let me know if this sounds interesting to you.

It won't be an exact clone, I'm planning to clean it up a bit, removing unused opamps as well as simplifying the buffer to my preferences.

edit: in case you don't already know, the ISP G String is a noise suppressor/gate that uses an effects loop such that the envelope is created by the raw guitar, but the gating happens later, ie after all dirt pedals that cause or amplify the noise.

Open Discussion / yo.
July 26, 2012, 07:46:20 AM
so I'm getting married next week, August 4th in Buffalo, NY to the most wonderfully awesome woman, in front of almost 250 friends and family.  It's been a long, long wait for this but its been more than worth it.  (\end sappy rant).

I was going to make pedals for all my groomsmen as gifts, but that was too much work, so I made them beer instead.  actually, 3 beers.  A Belgian, a Steam Beer and something I call Irish Gold.

I'll be off to Jamaica the week after.  Very excited so say the least.  I got her a nice Nikon DLSR (DSLR?) for a wedding gift so we should have some nice pictures to share afterwards!

How would one go about making a Width Pot (Pre-delay) to the Pork Barrel?  Which resistor sets the starting delay time?

Open Discussion / Inkscape/Graphic Design Help
January 11, 2012, 05:57:50 AM
I'm looking for someone with a little flair for graphic design and Inkscape experience to help generate some logo ideas.

Ideally, I'd want someone who would be able to convey how the images were made as well.  In return, I would offer some fabricated circuit boards.

Please let me know if you're interested.

This thing is pretty beastly to my ears.  Don't have one, but I'd like to.

Here's an interesting project.  If you've ever heard of "prepared piano" you will understand this.  I designed the electronics & PCB for this project based on my opamp buffer circuit.  (16 channels with two mixed outputs and individual outputs to drive an A/D Converter as a trigger).

The musician playing it is Scott.  He approached me in late August looking for some help with the electronics.  We used dorkbotpdx's prototype service to get the PCBs.  I essentially designed an 8 channel buffer, in which he used 2 boards for his 16 strings.

I had seen pictures of the instrument as it was being built, but I did not know it was to be a "prepared" piece until I got this link from Scott.

I'm trying to get the Prototype order out for the Relay Bypass project I am working on.

I need some feedback/suggestions from those interested in this for possible features.

So far I am working on a Single Relay configured for single Effect Bypassing, via on board momentary or remote momentary switch.

It could be wired as an AB switch, and controlled via on board or remote momentary switch.

It could also be used to create an amp foot switch where you need to connect two control lines together from the amp for channel switching.  This would allow you to incorporate the amp switch into a bigger true bypass box or similar.

The relay runs on 2 mosfets and a CD4049UBE inverter chip.  There will also be a 3rd mosfet for an optional "Soft" Ramp on the effect output, to avoid pops because of noise/sound levels.

It will include a status LED.

Other considerations/suggestions that would make this attractive to users?

It might be a trade secret, but what are you using to make your wiring diagrams?
