All mail and packages still have to go through regional sorting centers. Perhaps yours is not that close. Are you choosing priority mail or first class?  9-10 seems high, but I do know if I mail something across town it still has to go through the sorting center in sandston VA.

Call me lazy but I really like getting my passives from mouser, because of all the well labeled packages.... Shiny too

i second this.  I go with mouser when its a better buy than Smallbear in quantity.

we got off to a bumpy start a few years ago, but small bear is by far my favorite.  Mammoth is 2nd, PPP is great for enclosures, but I agree the ordering experience/storefront is crap.  Mammoth has a good platform.

I haven't tried Tayda.  I used to order from effectsconnection.com but I forgot about them for a while.

I have not built it yet, but yes the board has jacks for an effect loop that would go between the envelope detection and the actual gate.

January 25, 2013, 02:22:58 PM
Hey Guys, I put together a project for a noise suppressor for a 125B enclosure.  I have 3 boards, and I'd like some help to test it.  If anyone would like a free board to try out the circuit with me, I'd be happy to send you one.

The circuit uses the THAT2181 which is available at Small Bear.  the board was originally designed to have board mounted Neutrik jacks on the sides for I/O and the top for Send & Receive.  You should be able to make it with a true bypass switch for the whole effect including the loop, or leave the suppressor always on, and switch the loop in and out.

The only caveat is that I goofed up the Input and output Jack alignment, so you will have to use off board jacks for those, but the effects loop can be used on board.  After this gets tested by you and myself, I plan to fixed this issue and make this a DIY project for sale.

So let me know if you'd like a free board in exchange for testing it!  I only have 1 to give out.

I have a lex and a el cap.  I don't have the blue sky anymore.  I can help out, as I'll need someone with a timeline in the next few weeks to try something I've been using on my el cap for about a month  ;)  Not a favorite switch so no worries.  :)

Josh

Cool.  Please pm me your shipping address and I will send the project your way.  If I have time, I might just populate it for you (I've got extra parts).

According to this new product from Cusack, there's a new Belton brick in the works that lets you adjust room size, http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/cusack/sweetverb

Sorry if I was confusing.

1 Footswitch sends the favorite signal to 3 different Strymon pedals. 3 channels because its a 3PDT.  It only works with Brigadier, El Capistan, Lex & Flint.

The Favorite switch works by either connecting the Tip (LED+) either to the Ring (+V) or to the Sleeve (GND).

The pedal is completely passive because the LEDs are powered by the Strymon Pedals.  The TRS signals are completely isolated on the board.  The sleeves would get connected to each other through the case, and if this is an issue, testing will let us know.

If it works on 2, then it will definitely work on 3.  But I need to know if they work individually first.

Hey!  I'm looking for someone to help me out with a PCB I designed.  I basically made a 3in1 Favorite switch for the Strymons, but I don't have one myself so I'd like some help to test it out.  If you have 2 or 3 of the following: Brigadier, El Capistan, Lex or Flint then let me know, because I need your help!

The project needs a 3PDT, 3x Board Mounted Neutrik TRS jacks, 3x LEDs and 3x 10k (I believe) resistors.  It would fit in a 1090/1590A if you chose to box it.

I don't need feedback ASAP, but if you think you could do it promptly, I'd be happy to send the PCB your way.

Thanks!

Austin

I'll be the odd one out here as most Taylor's leave me cold.  They are very well crafted, they just tend to sound a bit  tight to me.

That's my experience as well, and I've played a few nice ones.  My description would be "sterile."  Kind of like a Boss digital delay, clear and precise, but lacking the character of a good analog delay (Martin or old Gibson to complete the analogy).

I just realized how ironic it was to use an analogy in regards to the analog-digital delay deal.  ;D

Yeah, sterile.  I've played a bunch of them and they all shared that, although there are some I like better than others.  A buddy of mine has an all koa one that is one of the best looking guitars I've ever seen.  His 70's Guild sounds better, though.

not my experience at all, must be my ears.   :)

do yourself a favor and check out some taylors.  I have a 214e from the first release in '06.  It's solid wood (unlike todays 214), but I highly recommend the Taylors.

I had the opportunity to visit their factory last year and I was really suprised to learn that everything above the 300 series is built with exactly the same workmanship and quality, only the woods, inlays and details vary.  I thought that was a really great idea, that a lower series guitar would play exactly the same as a much higher series, even though the sound and cost is different.

I took a gazillion pictures when i was there, so if you're interested, and don't mind skipping through 20 or so of me playing their show room guitars, here it is, http://s132.beta.photobucket.com/user/aziltz/library/2011/Taylor%20Guitar%20Factory
