Open Discussion / Sliding Pots
April 24, 2012, 12:18:47 PM
Has anyone ever used a sliding potentiometer in a pedal?  I'm going to build a boost pedal and thought that a slide pot might work well instead of a normal rotary one.

Just a thought! :)

Hey there.

Has anyone used the 3PDT wiring boards form GuitarPCB.com ?  Do they work with Madbeans general wiring diagram?

Thanks.

Open Discussion / Sand Blasting
April 23, 2012, 03:00:23 AM
Hi all.

I've been looking at getting into powder coating and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with sand blsting equipment?  I've found some smaller cabinates on ebay which aren't too expensive but they still take up quite a lot of room (I live in a small flat so not much room for storage).  I also found this hand held sand blaster:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clarke-Shotblast-Grit-Sand-Bead-Spot-blast-Gun-Kit-Shot-/221006677372?pt=UK_Air_Tools_and_Compressors&hash=item337506457c

Has anyone tried using anything similar? I was wondering if it's be up to the job?

Thanks.

Open Discussion / Powder Coating in the U.K
April 20, 2012, 06:08:56 AM
This is possibly an old topic but I've been away for a while and lost track.  I was hoping that someone could recommend an afordable powder coating gun that is available in the uk.  I've found the Craftsman one on Amazon but it can't be shipped to the U.K.  Everything else I've found is over the £100 mark and most are over the £1,000 mark and I just can't stretch to that.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.  Thanks.

Open Discussion / My Personal Messages
April 20, 2012, 05:26:10 AM
Hey there!

I've just been looking for a PM that I sent to another Madbean forum user and I can't for the life of me find any PM's that I have sent.  I can see all the replies that have been sent to me but messages that I have sent to others don't seem to be visible.

Am I going mad or is this a known issue or erm... feature of the forum?

Thanks.

Open Discussion / 1n caps or 1n5
January 10, 2012, 02:11:16 AM
Hi.
Just scouring eBay for some bits and came a bit stuck. I'm building a Thunderpuss boost and need a 1n cap but when I search for them 99% of the results are 1n5. Will these work? I can find some greenies that are 1n but in the build report photos I've looked at no one seems to use them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi.
I'm gearing up for my first build and have pretty much everything in place. The only thing that is still throwing me is transisotr pinouts.  There are hundreds of threads dedicated to this but that makes it even more confusing as there's lots of contradicting advice.
On the madbean Krankosaurus layout, 2 of the transistors legs are labelled S and D.  What is this refering to? Where ever else I look the legs are labelled E, B, C. ???

On other madbean layouts (Deadringer) the transisors aren't labelled at all (other than Q1, Q2 etc).  How are you able to know how to orientate them in this case?  ??? ???

Thanks.

Open Discussion / Good vlaue DMM in the UK
November 25, 2011, 01:53:33 AM
Hey!
I'm looking at picking up my first DMM and wondered if anyone else on here who is in the UK could recommend me a decent one that wont empty my wallet.
I know there are tons of 'What DMM should I buy' threads but they all seem to recommend ones that can only be bought from US stores such as Radio Shack. :-\
Any other UK DIYers able to suggets something suitable?
Thanks guys/girls!

I recently ordered the newer version of the DoomButter from Haberdasher (great guy by the way!) which can be found on the FSB forum

http://freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4000&start=120  (the PDF is about 3/4 down the page)

I'm just putting together a parts order list for this and a few other things and I'm a bit stuck with the SPST switch needed for the fuzz lift mod.  Should it be On-On or On-Off?

Thanks.

General Questions / What pot when?
November 17, 2011, 02:10:04 PM
Hey there!
Is there a rule of thumb to learn when knowing what kind of pot to use for different functions?
I know that log/audio pots are used for volume but what should be used for gain, blend, boost etc?
Thanks.

General Questions / Spare Krankosaurus board?
November 16, 2011, 12:29:47 AM
Hey. I know it's a long shot but I was wondering if anyone had a spare Krankosaurus pcb that they would be willing to sell me? I'm having one etched by a friend but it's been a couple of months since he said he'd do it and I've still not received it. I've got all the other parts needed for the build and am itching to get started.
I'd obviously purchase one from the projects page but the Krankosaurus is no longer for sale unfortunately.

General Questions / 2 colour LEDs
November 08, 2011, 09:28:31 PM
Hi. I am hoping to use a 2 colour LED in my build but I'm a bit unsure of how to hook it up. I've bought this http://www.banzaimusic.com/LED-3mm-2-pin-red-green-Dual-Color.html and would like to have the LED green when the effect is bypassed and red when the pedal is turned on. Does anyone know if this is easy enough to do?
Thank you.

General Questions / Knob Size (sorry)!
November 03, 2011, 01:56:05 PM
Hi there!
About to start my first proper build and I've got all my parts ready to order but I can't work out which knobs to buy.  The pots I've got are Alpha 16mm. Will these http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PPP&Product_Code=10017&Category_Code=KNB
or these
http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PPP&Product_Code=10009&Category_Code=KNB
fit?
The different measurement scales are throwing me a bit and I hoped someone could point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!

General Questions / Thunderpuss LED- first build
April 09, 2011, 01:52:21 AM
Hi everyone.
I've been lurking around theses parts for a while and have finally decided to have a go at a build. I chose the Thunderpuss as it seems one of the simpelst ones to put together. I've got a couple of questions that I was hoping someone could answer.
1-Is there anyway to wire an LED to the board so I can see when it's 'on'.
2-On the circuit diagram- what is the off board component on the left of the picture in-between the battery and the 2nd jack socket. I'm sure I'm just being thick but I can't figure out what it is meant to be.

Can't wait to get building!
Thanks in advance.
