Open Discussion / Roland AP-7 Jet Phaser
June 11, 2020, 09:07:46 AM
Hi gang

I've been looking for an over the top phaser for ages and recently discovered the old Roland AP-7 Jet Phaser. I'd love to build one but can't seem to find a reliable PCB or layout for it. Just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of one?

Thanks as always.

How Do I? Beginner's Paradise. / Eagle help
March 08, 2020, 09:03:16 AM
Hi all

I've recently decided I'd like to get my head around Eagle. I've drawn a schematic up and have converted it to a board layout but I'm overwhelmed by the options Eagle gives you for things like trace widths, board layers, polygons, etc etc. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good videos or online tutoruals that run through the basics of eagle for pedal makers?

I've had a good Google for help but I'm just getting lost in the sea of info out there.

Thanks as always!

Hi all

I am looking to build a bypass loop strip with a Klon buffer at the start of the chain using the below wiring diagram:

My favorite fuzz doesn't like having a buffer in front of it and so I would like to modify the wiring to include a switch that is not connected to the buffer and so sits independent of the rest of the chain. Would anyone be able to help me out in how I might go about wiring this up? For convenience please feel free to add to the below image:

As always, thanks in advance for your help

Hi there

I am planning on building an 8 way TBP loop strip for my baord. I have done some Googling to look for a good wiring diagram but everyone I have found either does mopre than I need (tuner out etc) or is unclear in someway (at least to me). The one I found that seems to best fit the bill for my needs is this one:

The thing I am questioning is the LED wiring. It seems to show the LED taking 9vt from the DC jack with a pull down resistor attached between the negative leg of the LED and the 3pdt. That doesn't sound right to me. Surely the resistor should go between the DC jack and the positive leg of the LED?

Secondly is there a limit to how many LEDs can be powered off 9v? Will each one need to be connected directly to the DC jack in parrallel or can I string them together in series?

Thanks in advance

Hi all

It's been a long tome since I put a Madbean board together and have seeminly forgotten some of the basics.

The SAWSE board has the usual four 3pdt connection pads at the base of the circuit: In, Out, 9vt and Grnd

At the top of the board are extra pads for 9vt and Grnd.

My question is do I need to connect these two extra pads to my test rig when testing the board or do I just need to connect the four 'normal' pads?

Thanks in advance

Open Discussion / Envelope controlled tremolo
July 21, 2017, 02:15:18 AM
Hi all

Apologies if this has been asked before but I have a friend asking me about building him a tremolo in which the trmolo speed increases the harder you play. I guess it would be an envelope controlled kind of thing?

Is anyone aware of any DIY projects that offer this?

Thanks in advance

Open Discussion / Boost pedal with mute
June 23, 2017, 03:38:48 AM
Hi all

I'm looking at making a simple one knob boost pedal that has zero volume when the knob is fully rolled off.
Does anyone know if such a project exists?

Thanks in advance

Hi all

Just come across this on Instructables:

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.instructables.com/id/NOT-Like-a-BOSS-Distortion/%3Famp_page%3Dtrue

Just wondering if anyone with a better understanding of schematics than me can identify if it's based on any existing circuit? I'd like to try and build it but I'm useless at working from schematic alone.

If it is based on an existing design I'm hoping I'll be able to find a layout of some kind for it.

Thanks in advance!

Open Discussion / Any DIY 12 stage phasers available?
February 28, 2017, 04:36:48 AM
Hey all

I've been listening to Kurt Vile a bit recently and loving his phaser sound. A quick Google shows he uses a Moog MF-103 Moogerfooger 12-Stage Phaser.

Just wondering if anyone is aware of any DIY 12 stage phasers that are availble? (I'm guessing there aren't).

Thanks in advance!

Open Discussion / Jonny Greenwood Glitch Pedal
February 22, 2017, 01:04:19 AM
Hi all

Radiohead fans amongst you will undoubtably be aware of the excellent Radiohead gear blog http://thekingofgear.com/ Well the site's owner has now stepped into the world of pedal production. He has a kickstarter running to fund production of a pedal he's designed to emulate Jonny Greenwood's MAX/MSP stutter effect. Page and video demo here https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1099336065/the-king-of-gear-feral-glitch-pedal

There's a shot of the circuit board on the page and it's pretty low on parts. No actual components though unfortunately!

Just thought some of you may be interested!

Tech Help - Projects Page / Pork Barrel wave shape
February 13, 2017, 02:51:39 AM
Hi all

I built my first Pork Barrel this weekend and love it. I followed the advice here http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=24809.0 and added a dry kill swich to add a vibrato option to the circuit which works well.

I'm just wondering if there is a simple way to alter the wave shape from triangle to sine as this is more suited to vibrato? The BYOC Mega Chorus/Vibrato http://byocelectronics.com/mcvinstructions.pdf has a switch that selects between the two wave shapes and I wondered if something similar could be implimented on the Pork Barrel.

Thanks in advance.

Open Discussion / Formula No.5 PCB?
February 06, 2017, 01:07:30 AM
Hi all

Is anyone aware of anywhere selling a PCB of the Catalinbread Formula No.5? I've seen the tagboard layout but I just prefer PCBs where available.

Thanks in advance

P.S Why's it called Formula No.5? What's the reference?

Open Discussion / Accurate drilling tips
November 24, 2016, 01:39:57 AM
Hi all

I just wondered if anyone has any advice on drilling? I always find that when I drill the holes in an enclosure they always end up a little off-centre to what I was aiming for. This then leads to the decal not lining up completely accurately with the holes. I'm only talking about a few milimeter's of wander but it's annoying all the same.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get the holes exactly where you want them?

I'm currently using a cordless handheld drill so I assume that a pillar drill would make an imediate improvemnt. Unfortunately I just don't have the space (or funds) for such a big piece of equipment.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Open Discussion / Shoot the Moon pcb?
October 24, 2016, 07:06:29 PM
Hi all

Does anyone know of anywhere selling Shoot the Moon pcbs? I know Rullywow had them but they've been out of stock for quite some time. I've done some Googling but not been able to find anything.

I did come across Grind Customs Electric Boogaloo but this is only a 2 knob pcb and I really want the 4 knob version. I'm reluctant to go down the tagboard route.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all

I was just wondering if anyone could explain what method Earthquaker Devices (for example) use to decorate their enclosures? I know that DBA screen print their stuff but wondered if anyone knew what process ED use?

Cheers.

Open Discussion / Small Clone PCB
September 05, 2016, 02:48:24 AM
Hi all

I have suddenly had the desire to build a copy of the EHX Small Clone. I would ideally like to build it like the original one knob, one switch EHX original but I'm struggling to find a PCB. I've found the Baja version but this replaces the depth switch with a 2nd pot.

Is anyone aware of a project that fits the bill?

Thanks in advance!

Hi all

I have recently built a tagboard version of the DAM Sonic Titan. I love the sound of the pedal but I am getting some strange note decay when a note is left to sustain. The distortion kind of farts and fizzles out before the note dies leaving a clean tone for the last few seconds of the sustain.

I've done some Googling and this seems a common problem with the LM386-1 chip the pedal uses. I've switched the chip for a LM386-4 as many suggest but this has little to no effect on the issue.

Just wondering if any of the clever folk here could offer any suggestions that might help?

Thanks

Hi all

I'm going to build a DAM Sonic Titan based on the Tagboard effects layout found here http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/dam-sonic-titan.html

Looking at the layout I can't see an output wire.  Also there is only one wire running to the Level pot.

It's been an age since I've built anything on vero and I'm scratching my head as to what to do. What am I missing?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

General Questions / Double Flush
April 27, 2016, 01:09:25 PM
Hi all

I'm looking to put together a Madbean Double Flush tremolo and have a question.

Can anyone tell me what the Intensity knob does? The build doc says it increases the intensity of the tremolo but I'm not really sure how that translates into sound. Does it change the trem from smooth to choppy or is it something else?

Thanks in advance

Open Discussion / Best compressor for sustain
April 24, 2016, 01:39:35 AM
Hi all

I've recently built a Keeley 4 knob compressor. It's great for evening out frequency response but I'm not really finding it adds any sustain to my clean or distorted tone.

Can anyone suggest a compressor that 'specialises' in sustain?

Thanks in advance!
