What a find.  I love those old EHX big boxes.  You'll need a mammoth size pedal board to fit them all on!

It's a constant buzz that doesn't fluctuate in volume/intensity and is audible above the guitar signal when I play. It gets louder the more I turn the knob up on the pedal. More effect=more buzz.  It's only there when the pedal is in the chain i.e there's no buzz when I'm going direct to the amp.  It's also there when the effct is in bypass.

Thanks for the advice.  The board is wired up using one of Gtr2's (very helpful) 3pdt boards.  Like so: http://1776effects.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/3pdt_wiring.pdf

Please could I ask you to point out which wire I can get rid of to hopefully cure the grounding issue you mention.  This is my first proper build and I'm still learning about grouning etc.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the advice.

My ICs arrived yesterday. Whilst most of them have a dot in one corner to identify pin 1 some of them don't,  like this one:

What's the best way to work out where pin 1 is?

Thanks again.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Thunderpuss Buzz

Hi guys.

I've just finished my first proper build, a Thunderpuss.  It fired up first time and does exactly what it says on the tin. Almost.  I get a fantastic (and loud) clean boost but there's a buzz that is louder than the guitar signal even when playing.  It's there when in bypass and gets louder as I turn the knob.  I tested the circuit on my test rig before boxing it up and the buzz was present but I assumed that this may be a shielding issue as the circuit obviously wasn't yet in an enclosure.  For a bit more info the enclosure it's in at the moment is just an old one that  I had lying around that I screwed up the drilling on. It has more holes than necessary for the Thunderpuss so isn't 'sealed' like it would be once it's in it's proper enclosure (i'm still waiting for it to arrive).  I've attached some photos in case anyone can see if I've done anything obviously wrong.
I've read the rules about asking for help and I've done what I can/know how to before posting here. i.e checked my wiring, soldering, put it on my test rig before boxing it up but as the pedal turns on and works I don't really know where to go from here.  Is there a common mistake that is known to cause buzz?

Any help would be massively appreciated.  It's such a confidence knock!

Thanks in advance.

I finally got round to making my test rig and it works like a charm.  I pinched a bit of an extendable aerial from an old radio I have and attached a croc clip to hold whatever board I'm testing.  Works really well! Here it is:

Thanks to everyone who helped me out with this.

Thank you for the advice Willybomb.  I actually came across your (extremely helpful) website a while back and was going to give the t-shirt method a try.  I hadn't realised you were on here too.  Good stuff!

Please could you link to the transfers you use? Your pedals look fantastic so they obviously work well.

Also, could you expand on the polishing compound method a bit?  I just did an eBay search and there's so many different types I don't know where to start.

Thanks again!

Enormous envy on my part.  I don't think having presets is all that important and the original is much cooler looking.  How's the Micro Synth.  I considered getting the bass version as I've heard it sounds great with guitar.  I think Josh Homme uses the bass version too.

So jealous!

Thanks for the tips!

The ID-Mark stuff looks good but not sure how I'd get access to a UV light.  I'll deffo look into it though!

Thanks again!

Hey there.

I've got a bit of free time next week and I plan to make the most of it by finally getting on with some builds.

I'm going to make a Doombutter which will be my first build with an IC (I'm still new to this).  I was just wondering if there are any do's or don't when soldering IC's?  I'm worried about ruining the chips by making a stupid mistake.

Also I'm assuming they need to be orientated a certain way.  Is there any fail safe way of doing this?

Thanks in advance!

Open Discussion / Making labels stick
June 15, 2012, 07:11:32 AM
Hey hey.

I've been experimenting with different labels to print pedal graphics on to with varying degrees of success.  I have been using glossy, self adhesive printer labels.  The main problem I am having is making the labels stick firmly to the metal enclosure.  The edges never seem to want to stay flush to the metal.  I can always get a finger nail underneath and pull the label off.  I've spayed the label with a few coats of clear coat (from a rattle can) but there's still a lip that can be pulled at which obviously isn't ideal when I'm no doubt going to be catching the pedal with my foot once it's on my board.

Just wondering if anyone had any tips to make them stick?  I'm eventually going to (hopefully) get a powder coat gun.  Will a clear coat from this work better than a rattle can?

Thanks.

I've not come across these guys before.  The pedals sound bloody brilliant.  I hope the do kits for the Internet overdrive and Eau Claire Thunder.

How easy is the Lightwah to build LaceSensor?  I've been mulling over giving it a go for a while but the threas on diysb is so big an unruly I kind of get lost reading it.
