General Questions / Spare Krankosaurus board?
November 16, 2011, 12:29:47 AM
Hey. I know it's a long shot but I was wondering if anyone had a spare Krankosaurus pcb that they would be willing to sell me? I'm having one etched by a friend but it's been a couple of months since he said he'd do it and I've still not received it. I've got all the other parts needed for the build and am itching to get started.
I'd obviously purchase one from the projects page but the Krankosaurus is no longer for sale unfortunately.

I may be making this up but ... I think the 2 colour LEDs with only two leads are like two LEDs connected by their cathodes. If you add a current limiting resistor to each leg and then connect power one way it will light the first colour, reverse the power connections and it will light the other colour.

I've just read that somewhere else too.  I'm guessing that that without some fancy wiring (ie anything other than that in the standard wiring diagram) that it won't do what I want it to?

Thanks for the detailed answer.  I'll be honest and say it's gone a little over my head but I'll try what you said with the 9v battery and look into how you suggested to wire up a 3 leg LED. It's my first proper build so I'm still getting used to the terms and phrases. Hopefully I'll figure it out for a future build.
Thanks again!

Ok I'll try and find some with 3 pins if that's going to be easier. How would you hook it up though? What would you connect the third pin to?
Thanks guys.

General Questions / 2 colour LEDs
November 08, 2011, 09:28:31 PM
Hi. I am hoping to use a 2 colour LED in my build but I'm a bit unsure of how to hook it up. I've bought this http://www.banzaimusic.com/LED-3mm-2-pin-red-green-Dual-Color.html and would like to have the LED green when the effect is bypassed and red when the pedal is turned on. Does anyone know if this is easy enough to do?
Thank you.

That's fantastic, thank you. I somehow managed to miss the part where you said all that earlier in the thread  :-[
Really looking forward to them. Thanks for all the hard work.

General Questions / Re: Knob Size (sorry)!

I've looked at smallbear and it's great but as I'm based in the UK ordering from lots of different places gets very costly when having to pay for overseas shipping. An enclosure from PPP is $29.50  :(
Banzai (where I'm getting the pots from) is based in Europe so it makes sense to try and get as much as I can from there.
I like the soldering a loop on idea, thanks for that. It looks like there are small holes at the pot end of the lugs. Maybe I can put the wires into them and solder them in place?

I've just emailed the company selling them and they said that they wont fit  :( but recommended that I swap the pots for this type http://www.banzaimusic.com/Alpha-16mm-split-shaft-100k-lin.html as they will fit onto the split shaft.  I've asked to exchange them and they're happy to do that  ;D

My question now is how do I connect wires to this kind of pot as the lugs don't have the loops that the other kind of pot did? Confused!

I totally +1 this.  Everyone has been enormously helpful with the questions and issues I've had so far but a forum with stickies for the basics, do's and don't, good technique, terminology etc would be extremely useful to us just starting out.  Please don't take that as a criticism of the site as it is already packed with great info and helpful users and is probably the best site on the web for pedal building. It's just an idea.

Thanks guys. Good call on the size of the chicken heads.  I hadn't accounted for that at all.  I'm building the Krankosaurus which has 4 knobs so I need something smaller. Schoolboy error! I've found these which are smaller-
http://www.banzaimusic.com/Black-Aluminum-knob-16mm.html
but still can't work out if they'll fit the pots I've bought http://www.banzaimusic.com/Alpha-16mm-FS-100k-lin.html

I'd be massively appreciative of any help.  Thanks.

Sorry to drag this up but I have a small question and didn't think it worth starting a new thread. The LED wiring that Jordo posted is really helpful but it only shows wiring for attaching an LED to one of the switches.  I would like to have an independent LED for each switch and was wondering if this would work?

Thanks in advance.

General Questions / Knob Size (sorry)!
November 03, 2011, 01:56:05 PM
Hi there!
About to start my first proper build and I've got all my parts ready to order but I can't work out which knobs to buy.  The pots I've got are Alpha 16mm. Will these http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PPP&Product_Code=10017&Category_Code=KNB
or these
http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PPP&Product_Code=10009&Category_Code=KNB
fit?
The different measurement scales are throwing me a bit and I hoped someone could point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks guys that's all great! Can't believe I haven't seen that standardised wiring diagram link before. I'm sure it will be a great help.
Of course, a power jack!
Thanks again.

General Questions / Thunderpuss LED- first build
April 09, 2011, 01:52:21 AM
Hi everyone.
I've been lurking around theses parts for a while and have finally decided to have a go at a build. I chose the Thunderpuss as it seems one of the simpelst ones to put together. I've got a couple of questions that I was hoping someone could answer.
1-Is there anyway to wire an LED to the board so I can see when it's 'on'.
2-On the circuit diagram- what is the off board component on the left of the picture in-between the battery and the 2nd jack socket. I'm sure I'm just being thick but I can't figure out what it is meant to be.

Can't wait to get building!
Thanks in advance.
