Global Annoucements / Re: VFE back in stock

Update on the VFE releases:
I decided on the Mobius Strip instead of the Blueprint this time. So, it looks like the Triplet and Mobius Strip for sure and possibly the Scream if I have enough time. I think I can release all three at once, after all. Tentative date of April 5th. I'll have a final update in a day or two.

Those are "safe lines" for pots. IOW, I use them to make sure my pots don't contact the walls of the enclosure. They are also a guide for limits on PCB dimension like you said but you can go slightly past them (because the sides of enclosures are sloped and are a little wider at the bottom than they are at the top). If you use the same display grid as I do you'll see you can draw the dimension layer just a hair beyond the dotted lines on the grid (I use 25 mils with a multiple of 4 for my grid).

Glad it arrived safely. I'm still a bit embarrassed by my off-center LED. I just got one of these in which pickdropper recommended...should hopefully help with the eternal struggle to drill holes correctly: https://www.ohiopowertool.com/m-851-hougen-rotacut-sheet-metal-cutters.aspx#

That's great news. Is it an option that is available to anybody shipping internationally, or is it something available to at-home postage services? Is there a secret handshake you have to perform with the USPS worker?

Nothing special. The service became available through the software I use for shipping which is Dazzle. I tried out ShipStation (has a similar service) for a bit but I really didn't like it. You cannot do it through regular USPS service at a USPS location for all I know.

That's a different version of the Cave Dweller (the first version). C3 in the current 2015 edition does something totally different.

I don't know what would cause your volume output to drop when connected with other pedals. If you are daisy chaining power through several pedals it might be drawing too much current (really depends on the PS). You might have to experiment by disconnecting power to one or more of the chained pedals to see if the problem persists. Or, taking other pedals out of the chain altogether to see if you can isolate the problem to a specific interaction of your Cave Dweller with something else.

I'm glad you chimed in Adrian. I think everything you said is perfectly understandable and reasonable. This isn't freestompboxes, after all. There's no agenda here other than DIY as a craft, hobby, or springboard into something else.

Since you mentioned me and FFX - actually, people have cloned the Clusterfuzz (as DIY) and I have no problem with that. I even confirmed the traced schematic right here on this forum. And I would do the same for any product we make (but, that's just the way Forrest and I operate - it's not something I would expect of every pedal company). Would I want someone to turn around and produce them commercially? Nope...and for all the same reasons you mentioned for ThorpyFX. And because, unlike 10 years ago, I now know just how frigging hard it is to launch an unsuccessful, I mean, emerging pedal company (yes, yes, self-deprecation and all that).

Also, glad to see you posting! You've been gone for a minute.

I'm happy to announce that there are more options for all non-USA customers. Starting today you can pay between $5-6 shipping for orders under $30. This is a substantial reduction from the recent increase we had in January due to the new USPS policies.

- Under $30 orders now ship much cheaper. These orders are sent through a special USPS processing center so they will take a few extra days but hopefully you won't mind since the postage is around 50-60% less.

- I've re-instated the shipping adjusted prices for the VFE projects that ship with 16mm pots (these require regular 1st Class shipping) but they are lower than before. In some cases I'll eat a few dollars on the shipping which is fine. In other cases, your shipping might work out higher than needed. I will automatically refund any excess shipping that is $1 or more (this is something I've always done anyway).

Thanks for your patience while this was worked out. I've already refunded shipping on all the orders I did today where it was needed.

This dog is a very good dog. I can tell because my job is to know these things.

You guys have built this up to be some major announcement...it's not! Basically, what I already said about the VFE (most likely the Scream and Blueprint) in early April. I'll check into the Triplet at the same time but I won't have enough switching boards and micro-controllers to release all three at once.

For MBP the plan is still the two sub-mini tube projects but I still need a little more work on the delay. Again, early April is the plan. I'm honestly not sure about the Supering right now. I just can't seem to get it done. I've tried like 4 different versions with different features but none of them are just right. But, I'll keep at it. If I can get it sorted this week it will be included with the two tube projects. Once I finally get these off my plate I will turn my attention back the Timelapse and a couple other ones I've mentioned in the Project Development area.

Also, I should have an announcement tomorrow about international shipping - very good news.

Waiting for The Scream and Blueprint. So far, no delay yet from MBP VFE project. I am guessing he's going to release the Dark Horse.

The Dark Horse will not be releases anytime soon. The Scream and/or Blueprint are actually already the likely next candidates so you must have read my mind.

Open Discussion / Re: 2meg resistors...
March 24, 2018, 12:15:09 AM
It depends on what the resistor is doing. If it's a pulldown then a 2M2 is going to be fine. If it's doing something very specific then two 1M in series might be called for.

The Ego Driver was based on one of the earlier versions of the OCD...maybe 1.2? I don't remember exactly. So, it depends on what has changed from that version to ver 1.7.

Looking at the pic on the link below, ver 1.7 has a 100kB volume pot. That would explain some of the difference in low end. I would choose 100kA instead because the OCD can have a lot of output and an audio taper would be my preference in that case. Anyway, I'd start there. You could reduce the low end output further by reducing the value of C3 to 56n or 47n.

It's really hard for me to pick my own personal favorite but I'd say this one is close:

Reason being is 1) it's simple 2) it sounds great and 3) my artwork/etch/enclosure design is nearly perfect (yes, I am humble).

Global Annoucements / VFE back in stock

All the current VFE projects are back in stock.

I'll have an announcement on the next batch of MBP/VFE projects probably this weekend.

I just noticed- your green LED appears to be backwards. Flat side of the LED goes to the flat side of the component drawing on the PCB. That would explain a lot.
