General Questions / Re: Simple Killswitch pedal question

One excellent add-on would be to have two switches - one a hard kill and one a momentary kill.

I've gotten it to fit but not easily (and just barely). Skipping the washer helps.

Wait, when did youTube start putting sponsored content in the comment sections? Have I just noticed this?

Great news! What's it like?

Excellent work on your debugging attempt. Here are a couple of possibilities:
pin10 and 11 are getting grounded somehow and therefore no signal going out.
R37 is the wrong value.

To do:
- check soldering, look for any solder bridges around those pins.
- if you have a continuity checker, verify that C30 is connected to pins10, 11 and that none of them have continuity with ground
- compare your compander voltages with the ones in the latest Aquaboy project (should be close to the same) http://www.madbeanpedals.com/projects/Aquaboy/Aquaboy.pdf
- verify you have a 20k in R37

If everything checks out, then try this - remove R37 or clip one of the leads.

These are all the steps I would take before trying to get a different chip. Let us know what happens.

I've updated my signature to more clearly state my lack of affiliation, not even with Oatey, makers of fine paste flux.  ;)

How strange. "Fine Paste Flux" is the name of my Hall and Oates cover band!

So.... was this person using their 1st account to hype up the PCBs being sold by their second account??  :-\

In so far as I can tell not exactly but perhaps just shy of that. The individual posted in the same thread under both accounts at least once.

Just so everyone knows - I am a real softie. It takes work for me to bust out "rules" (I'm so anti-authoritarian it's almost sad). Just stick to the few simple rules of the forum and everything will be gravy.

Open Discussion / Re: Snow In South Texas
December 08, 2017, 02:01:37 AM
That's great! We usually got one dusting a year in Austin and it was gone within a few hours. The last snow I got to see in Texas happened in the month of March (?!) just a few weeks before we left to move to TN years ago.

Whoops... in that case i've been a bit naughty with my signature, what about freelance work for a company, I do repairs for Analogman UK, do I need to include that?

No need to go crazy. Any business affiliation that is long-term or a permanent relationship is plenty enough. We don't need people disclosing their entire CV. I only want this so members know who they are interacting with.

Global Annoucements / Affiliation disclosure - addendum
December 08, 2017, 01:16:52 AM
Recently it has come to my attention that a member here was using more than one account. I don't recall if I ever explicitly stated this but that is a no-no and that should be obvious. Furthermore, this member's second account was affiliated with the sale of PCBs. Selling PCBs here is not a violation of the rules. I've made that completely clear over many years. But, not disclosing affiliations as it relates to a personal pedal-related business is against the rules. And, being deceitful about it (which happened in this case) gets you a ban. I don't like doing that but there has to be a reasonable amount of moderation here.

Just so it is clear-
-Do not register for more than one account.
-If you are selling stuff as part of a business that relates to DIY, pedal manufacturing, etc, then you need to disclose that in your signature. And, you are completely welcome here. We like you.
-It is totally okay to sell your own PCBs (or DIY related products) here provided they are your own designs and within the rules already spelled out (not a copy of someone else's PCB, or "original" project, etc).
-Lying to me is one of the few things that can get you banned...so please don't. Especially for totally unnecessary and dumb reasons that could have been avoided.

Actually, I just remembered part of that vomit scenario (which revolved around the TA himself) was being drugged at a party which led to the vomiting and hence the math problem. Strange guy but definitely one of the most memorable instructors I had.

What I learned in undergrad engineering school:  there is (probably) a solution to every problem.  Also, how much alcohol I could consume before it would create immediate trouble.
(Be adventurous.)

What I learned in college: you can calculate the rate a canonical hat fills up with vomit using Calculus (an actual problem from a T.A.). I think that was most of it.

I've managed to do fairly well with an English degree (double minored in linguistics and technical writing), but I would not recommend the same path for someone entering college right now. In fact, unless you want to go for engineering, medicine, pharma chemistry, or some kind of machine-learning/AI degree, most people would probably be better off going into a trade (plumbing, electrician, carpentry, locksmithing, etc). Pursuing that with full licensure/credentials pays very well and will leave you with little-to-zero debt.

I kind of which I had pursued being an electrician, actually. I think I would be far better off financially and have greater mobility.

That's a tough one. On one hand trades seem to be retaking the clearer path to a middle class lifestyle whereas a college degree seems to promise ever-shrinking prospects and soul crushing debt for at least a decade or more. However, we have too many dumbasses in this country already. Not that trades-people are dumbasses (they aren't), but I don't think anyone can look at America and say "now there's an education system that's firing on all cylinders". FFS, they are still trying to teach Intelligent Design in public schools up in here. College is a singular stop-gap from us descending further into Idiocracy.
