Is God real?

What about Trump, how is he doing his first month compared to Obama?

Why are PCs so much better than overpriced Macs?

Should humans eat meat?

Lets get this party started!!  8)

Zappa was god, so yes.
Comparison implies a shared reality so I cannot comment.
I can build my own PC (and do!)
I don't but it took me a long time to get to that place. I'm glad I finally did, though.

You know, I've never looked into it but I'm betting someone has done a study of luminosity vs. wavelength vs. light diffusion when it comes to LEDs and LDRs. I honestly don't know how critical wavelength is but I do tend to stick with red diffused in all mine. However, at least some of the 5c3 vactrols use a clear red 3mm led (I took one apart once).

Well, the universe provides. I happen to log into my Focusrite account today and saw that they were offering a free license to XLN Audio Additive Keys. I've been wanting a decent grand piano library and here it is!

Anyway, cool story Freppo! Parasit Studio is indeed a great name.

Any news on those VFE boards?

Nothing definitive in terms of release, but things are happening behind the scenes. I will be getting the microcontrollers for the switching circuit on the projects. I expect March will be the initial launch.

Yup that's the right instruction to follow. I am currently without a scope so I just do mine manually and leave the cancel trim in the middle.

For the oscillation, you can adjust the feedback point by increasing the value of R30. Socket that and try 27k, 30k, 33k, etc.

For the photocells, 100k on resistance might be fine...it will limit the extreme settings of the depth control but that is okay (because you already have limited room to modulate a delay signal that maxes out at 300ms). If you find the modulation is too subtle with your available photocell, then omit R8 to increase the overall range.

As I've getting back into actually writing music these days instead of just playing with pedals, I've been searching for sources of inspiration. Here are a few killer channels:

Rick Beato
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJquYOG5EL82sKTfH9aMA9Q

This guy is the bee's knees. I've learned so much through his videos. Even though I am 25 years out of music school a lot of the music theory is starting to come back to me and he explains things in just the right way for me to quickly grasp his concepts. He's got some great guitar related stuff on there, too.

JunkieXL
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCor9SN3lpO-BT2aBvAwBptw

This guy did the score for Fury Road. He has a series on how he did some of the composition for the film, going into detail on string arrangements and how he did all the awesome percussion for the score. I really like his style.

ThinkSpace Education
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH1Kp5ewZe_SZJ8ntw615PZb0TwrzC2EG

Some excellent film-centric videos.

Spitfire Audio

All kinds of interesting stuff on here.

Open Discussion / Discuss your 2017 home recording setup
February 14, 2017, 02:02:46 PM
Been a couple years since the last DAW thread so what's everyone using now?

Here's what I am using
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
6-core Intel (water-cooled and super quiet) w/16GB of RAM, 500GB SSD
Tascam active monitors
Furman power conditioner
Reaper,  FL Studio
E-Mu X-Board (decent 61-key midi controller I got for cheap)
For plugins, I'm using mostly free VSTs I got through KVR and ones included with the recording software. I did purchase, and use, these: Addictive Drums, Amplitube and Waves Gold. A bit spendy but I got them all during holiday sales over the years...lots of fun to use.

Want list: Cubase, Korg Monologue, maybe Kontakt. Interested in getting into writing some simple orchestra cues for fun but I lack a good library for it. My Focusrite doesn't have dedicated midi I/O so maybe I will upgrade that someday. Midi over USB seems to work okay for now.

What I used for almost a decade: Tascam 4-track, Alesis HR-16 drum machine and a Shure SM57! The thing I've found is that even though I have 100 times the capability now than I did 15 years ago, it's harder to be productive. When I was just using a 4-track and drum machine there were no distractions. The hardware was limited in what it could do and I just worked within that. Now the learning curve is so much steeper and there are too many toys to play with!

General Questions / Re: Aristocrat on 12 or 18v
February 12, 2017, 04:34:38 PM
Sure thing. As long as all your caps are rated at at least 25v you can run it at 18v. Don't think there would be much difference at 12v, though.

That sounds more like a bad 1M pot to me.

Sweet!
#3026
Woohoo! So happy to see that on another board. Thank you! And I am glad you like what you hear!

Which docs are you having trouble with?
#3028
430k will be fine...should not be a noticeable difference.

Can we please please please please please please please not do this here?

I'm gonna go with Jon on this. No real reason to bring this discussion into this forum right now. We had a short political discussion after the election and that was enough. Gonna lock this one up.

1W is preferred but not absolutely required.
