Open Discussion / Charge Pumps at Tayda - No.
January 25, 2017, 08:22:03 PM
I've come across a few builders having issues with charge pumps they bought at Tayda in the last few months (as in they were total junk). I'd advise sticking to reliable sources for the MAX1044CPA, TC1044SCPA, LT1054 and ICL7660SCPA such as Mouser, smallbear, Digikey, and the more reliable overseas vendors. FYI.

Global Annoucements / Restocks are in

Now back in stock: Total Recall, Pork Barrel, Stage Fright, Ping and Mangler. Laserwolf blowout sale (last chance to get one for a while). The Mangler and Tonebender got a few layout updates and the docs are up.

Going up to 4-layer is a great move. At least they are being a bit responsive to the community. Still, I'm not going to upgrade if it invalidates my 7 license permanently. Just dumb.

I just redid the link in the doc, too. Links sometimes don't work in pdf's (even when they are correct) and I don't really understand why.

There are so many heart rending problems in this world with so many worthy causes to take up. Making schematics available is not a cause. It's just a thing.

I frequent this forum because it's a fun, inviting, educational place to be. I think it stays this way because it's not a fun and inviting place for people who take themselves too seriously. I do believe that that ethos trickles down from Brian. I don't care what happened over at FSB. I think we kind of have a feel for who Brian is (and CJ for that matter) by way of the atmosphere here on his forum.

This is how I feel about it.

Interesting stuff here.

That actually sounds like backward transistors to me. Are you sure you oriented those those BC109 correctly? The tab is the emitter (should be on the right side looking down on the PCB).

All you caps and resistors look correct. So, it would seem to be transistor-related or the inductor.

Not surprised at all about the forfeiture of license when you upgrade. Exactly the kind of thing I expect from AD. Once you upgrade you are on the hook forever.

My drawings above assume you have another ground point on the PCB, BTW. So, the ground connection between the sleeve on the jack and battery connect to a common ground on the PCB.

I deleted my reply because right after I typed it I saw a problem in the library. The DC KobiconnPGR library part was labeled incorrectly. This is what you want - The TRS gets wired to the jack and the battery hookups directly to the battery. I'm going to re-upload the library in the library thread with the correction. Can you tell I pretty much never used this? Whoops!

According to the forum, they will be doing a promotion for legacy users. So, I'm going to wait and see. I spent something like $500-600 on my current license and frankly I could use 7.7 indefinitely as far as PCB design for pedals. But if they are going to actively develop Eagle it might be worth an upgrade. I just don't have a lot of optimism when Autodesk is involved.

QuoteIt is perpetual, you can continue to use EAGLE V7 for all eternity if you wish without ever spending another cent. It hasn't been wasted, as an existing customer you are entitled to special pricing for the V8 subscription.

$100 a year isn't reasonable when I bought a lifetime subscription for under $200 just last year.

Your current license is not invalidated, but you won't get any further software upgrades without a subscription (8, 8.1, etc). At least this is how I understand the situation.
