Open Discussion / Re: Autodesk buys Eaglecad?
January 19, 2017, 02:52:50 PM
Autorouter is now included in the standard edition it seems. And importing circuit blocks is a great feature. But, there doesn't seem to be any information on current Eagle 7 license holders. Sure would be nice to have my current license carry over for a year subscription. Anyway, $100 / year is totally reasonable, IMO. Can't see doing $500 for the premium version, though.

Oh yeah, and the Third Rail has part of the circuit schematic on the outside of the box! We made it easy 😁

There were 3 or 4 Aquaboy prototype boards given away (the green boards - not the current blue ones) before the production one came out. If you got one of these please PM me. The component names on this are slightly different and I need to get you the schematic to build them. I simply forgot that I changed the order number on some resistors and caps.

7. culturejam was a very active member there, and contributed a tonne of information, and always maintained the FSB ethic that every schematic for every commercial pedal should be available to all for educational etc purposes. He even claimed that if he ever set up a pedal company, he would provide a schematic inside each pedal. Now he has set up a commercial company, it seems that this might not be the case.

I have no issue with FFX releasing its schematics, and neither does CJ (we've talked about it several times). But he and I are not the owners of the company...we're two of five partners (as you alluded to later in your post). Shoot, the Clusterfuzz could be traced in a hour if someone wanted to. It's a single sided board and a pretty simple circuit. If someone did trace it I'd be happy to confirm the correctness, even. The Third Rail is just an expansion and modification of the GreaseGun circuit we did for the FFX fundraiser. There is nothing hidden in either pedal.

As far as your mention of the Tracer's Fund (of which I was also a contributing member) there is a lot that went on behind that which I don't care to discuss ever again. But, I will say the TF was re-imbursed in full plus extra without any hesitation or delay on my part and the job got done with help; just not on a reasonable time scale (which was entirely my fault). I alone am to blame for that...but it's not the reason I exited the forum. I hope that's at least a little clarification since this seems to come up every few years.

..Is the decision to use polar electrolytics in these positions driven by space savings, accuracy to the original circuit...?

Yes and yes. But, if you want to fit it with film there is no reason no to.

Man, I was tempted to set the record straight, but in the end, I don't think anyone over there really cares to hear it.

Jacob

I don't know how much of a record exists to set straight, honestly. The boards I currently sell on this site have very little cross-over with any information I got from FSB. That's been true for a few years. If there are members there that don't like me or MBP or my silly little band that's perfectly fine. It's a big internet.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't care.

Global Annoucements / Re: New Year's Sale coming
January 12, 2017, 12:10:07 AM
Just a quick note to say thanks to everyone for the outstanding sale. All the extra $$ allowed me to place an intermediate re-stock order this month (there are several boards close to going out of stock). This means in February I can get more new projects released. So, everyone wins!

If the price is right I can't see not buying this. And, yeah...knobs.

General Questions / Re: Total Recall Resistor Question

It will not cause any issues. You'd have to have some serious golden ears to be able to tell the difference.

So, so nice. All it needs is a Duncan Hot Rails!

(I keed).

Using 550C should be fine. First thing I would suspect is R26, 27, 28 or 29 are incorrect leading to the long delay time. Can you post a clear picture of the top of your build?

Almost anything from this link:
http://www.mouser.com/Passive-Components/Capacitors/Film-Capacitors/_/N-9x371?P=1ywtgm3Z1z0z7l5Z1z0x6frZ1z0x6d8Z1yzsworZ1yzswonZ1yndoy8Z1yx4avvZ1yx4avuZ1yx4atuZ1yznbzrZ1z0vn48Z1z0juplZ1z0juqsZ1z0wtowZ1z0vhz5Z1z0wuod

General target is 5mm lead spacing, poly film, 50 or 63v (100 usually okay depending on the size). Then go by price. The link above is already sorted for the basics I listed.

The NE571/SA571 should be interchangeable with the NE570. The NE570 is a bit more common and it's what the DM-2 used. But, if you have a 571 there's no reason not to just use that, AFAIK.

As far as the Depth pot, the reason it is hooked up that way is because pins 1&2 are connected on the MOD PCB. If you were to wire lug 2 into the PCB, it would short the 47k resistor which defeats the whole purpose. The Depth control works fine if you skip the 47k and wire the pot as normal, but at the highest settings it can go too far and create noise with the modulation so the stopper resistor helps prevent that.

The C taper is a suggestion for the Rate only. B is fine for Depth and Rate, but C on the Rate offers more fine-tuning.

Looks very promising! Can't wait to see some more.
