Open Discussion / Re: What are you playing? (games)

GTA V for me currently. This game is kinda too much for me sometimes but it can be really fun. Trevor is like a caricature of an evil hillbilly. Right now I'm stuck on trying to pilot the damn helicopter!

The Loophole is exactly that: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/projects/Loophole/Loophole.pdf

Habbie has some etched boards, it looks like: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=2038.0

There are some mods here on the forum, too. A vibrato mod, IIRC.

Old demo here:

I may have incorrectly flipped that 3.3v to positive on my list - I'll have to check. All your other voltages are probably fine. Anything in the low mV area can be considered 0v so don;t worry too much about that. Is there some problem in your build to cause you to take voltage readings?

Open Discussion / Re: Best JFET testing/matching PCB?
December 20, 2016, 10:01:58 PM
FYI, I'll be releasing a small bundle of utility PCBs most likely in January which will include a JFET matcher. Also, germanium transistor tester, 14mm pot mount, 9mm pot mount and a multi-voltage board for prototyping. These are all actually done, just not released yet. Sorry for the hijack.

Another +1 on weight loss, Curtis. Or, -1. You know what I mean. I dropped about 15lbs myself this year but it all came back. Fixing to start up on some juicing again (not steroids...actual juice).

More spoiler talk

It looks like they re-shot a good portion of the ending. There were shots from the trailer that showed Jyn running around with the databox thingy on the beach, I think. So, something was changed in how the Death Star plans were ultimately transmitted and I bet how some of the main characters died. Plus, there were a bunch of shots in the trailers not in the movie like that Tie Fighter behind the catwalk, etc. I'd bet good money that scene with you-know-who getting the plans at the end was shoe-horned in which is why it looked so terrible. I guess we'll never get to see the movie that it was supposed to be before the studio got involved!

We went from 70F on Saturday to freezing rain and 25F on Sunday. Really wild.

Saw it. Honestly did not like it very much...not nearly as much as TFA. I know TFA had its issues but R1 just wasn't very engaging. Not that I hated it...lots of little things in it I really enjoyed and I appreciate they were trying to do something different. I just didn't enjoy it like the last one.

Spoilerish opinion below

Last warning -  the thing I really really hated was the cg/performance capture of a couple of well known characters from Ep4. It was just terrible for a feature film of this caliber. Very good for a video game but not a Star Wars movie. Too much uncanny valley. They should have just omitted those characters altogether.

I need to get back to writing music. I used to be a demo making machine in the day. Irony is I have so much more capability in terms of digital recording now than I did 10 years ago when I was more active with it. Anyway, hoping the sometimes band will make a new record next year.

The 1n decoupler is due to the high input impedance (R2 @ 10M) into the op-amp. 1n is sufficient to cover all the range of guitar frequency (you end up with a -6db per decade starting at about 15Hz). This is a really common element to all the John Hollis circuits, actually. Anyway, you can see a similar set-up in the AMZ Mosfet boost.

The 1uF is pretty standard as an output decoupler (as you know) although you probably could lower it to 100n. One thing I would like to learn more about is the importance of capacitive reactance as it relates to guitar signals, actually. Like, does the reactance of a 100n decoupler vs. a 1uF decoupler vs. a 1n cap really matter? I should read up on that truth be told.

General Questions / Re: Sharkfin Tonesuck in S/H Mode?
December 17, 2016, 12:03:20 AM
Yeah I kinda need something a bit more descriptive...tone suck could mean a lot of things. It's essentially a stepped filter so there is going to be tone shaping.

This is a good example of what should be happening, although it's probably not a Sharkfin build.

Open Discussion / NGD - PRS
December 15, 2016, 09:13:36 PM
Well, I sold 5 guitars and 2 basses in the last 13 months so I figured I was due for a NGD. I had been eyeing a Vela for quite a while but I had a chance to play an S2 Standard at NAMM this year and liked it a lot. I found this one used at a good price and it was cheaper than a used Vela. Plus, satin finish which is my preference. So, a pretty good win. Just two very minor nicks in the body otherwise it appears fairly mint.

Good - Finish is great for me. Not everyone likes the McCarty style finish or the satin feel but I dig them. And a minimally finished neck is always superior to gloss, IMO. The fretwork is outstanding...the edges are smoother than anything else I currently own. Nut is also smooth and rolled over. Weighs 7lbs, so it's light. The pickups are very interesting. I had low expectations on coil tapping but through my rig the single coil and buckers both sound great. Rich and full. Not magic, but certainly on par with this price range. The neck carve feels really good, too...I can understand why ppl comment on PRS necks.

Needs work - I doubt this was the factory setup because the strings are quite high. Relief looks about right so hopefully I can just lower the saddles a bit without too much buzz. Interestingly, even with high action it is very very playable up to the 15th. Gets pretty high after that. But, this is nothing unusual with a used instrument.

Sorry for the mess of a bookshelf my wife and I share in the pic. Too cold to go outside for a decent picture.

Tap and weener bundle please

Sorry I should have been more clear. There are two bundles total, and zombie_rock123 already grabbed the Tap/Weener bundle.

I'll take the Tap & Weener bundle if that's cool.

Awesome. Thank you!
