Global Annoucements / Re: Important: Read This, Please
January 25, 2016, 01:34:01 PM
It was but I was able to bring it back without any data loss. I am convinced now the automated maintenance is causing the problem. So I have eliminated the non-essential ones and re-scheduled the important ones for non-peak times. I think there is some kind of bug where the message table crashes when optimizing while people are using the forum or something. I wish I understood this stuff a little better. I'll check on the smf forums and see if anyone else has this problem.

That clock range seems very wrong. If 10kHz is your lowest setting then that could be the problem. The proper clock setting on a DM-2 when biased correctly usually happens between 6 and 7kHz.

Can you take another look at C33? Are you positive you used 100pF there?

I have both tolerances in all my film caps and I never give a second thought to it. Only in rare cases I might check the actual capacitance reading if it is something I think is critical. You are fine!

Those voltages look pretty good actually so I don't think that is the problem. Just to be clear: does the noise and distortion carry through to the  Mix output of the delay? IOW, is it isolated to just the BBD output or are you hearing it mixed in with the dry signal at the output? It's not necessarily unusual to have some of what you are describing at the BBD outputs but it should not carry through past the de-emphasis filtering and expandor. Also, if you have another BL3102 it wouldn't hurt to pop it in and see if that takes care of it. Or, you could use an MN3101 if you install D3 (just going through all the debugging things I would try here).

What are your voltages on the BBD and clock pins?

Global Annoucements / BOTY - Winners Annoucement
January 22, 2016, 04:48:28 PM
So, as you all know we lost the entirety of the BOTY contest with the crash. This is a huge bummer because there were not only a lot of amazing entries but WIP threads, as well. From what I have pieced together I believe this was the order of winners from the voting poll:

Grand Prize - Leevibe
2nd Place - Chuckbuick
3rd Place - lumpyliptons
4th Place - Cortexturizer
5th Place - Aristatertotle
6th Place - Facegrinder

But, there were conflicting comments on the order of 3rd and 4th place, so if anyone knows for sure please speak up! And, these were the prizes:

Grand Prize - One year free PCB from MBP for all new projects.
1776 Effects - $30 store credit, Lectrix-FX -  $30 store credit, THCustom -  $30 store credit, JMK PCB -  $25 store credit (2 prizes available)

The way this was to work is the runners up would choose which prize they wanted in the order of their placement. So, Chuckbuick will get his first choice and so on. Therefore, winners please comment in this thread in the order of you placement which prize you are selecting. And again, if anyone knows for sure that this is not the correct order please say so:

1st Choice - Chuckbuick -
2nd Choice - lumpyliptons  -
3rd Choice  - Cortexturizer -
4th Choice  - Aristatertotle -
5th Choice  - Facegrinder -

Lastly, thanks again to everyone who entered the contest. It was a really good one and the entries were ALL outstanding! If anyone wants to re-post a pic of their entry (which I hope you will), please do so here: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=21491.0

January 22, 2016, 04:48:01 PM
This thread is for anyone who wants to re-post a pic of their entry so everyone can see what you did. Feel free to post your images and or demo if you like. Everyone needs a chance to admire them!

Man, lots of good stuff coming out! I've been watching the TGP threads and there are some amazing pedals being put out. I kinda had to laugh a bit at the Chase Bliss Tonal Recall :) A good idea is a good idea.

You don't need to post voltages. Try increasing the value of the two resistors used with the external indicator. These are R48/49. I think I suggested 8k2 at one point (the values need to be identical).

There may be some variation on how it behaves depending on what type of LED is used, I'm guessing.

Audio probe pins 15 and 14 of IC2. Do you get signal into pin15? Do you get signal out of pin14?

If you do lots of shipping then Endicia is a big help. You have to pay for it ($10/month) but you also get commercial rate discounts. Plus, it does all the work for you in filling out Customs forms.

On the plus side, First Class weight now extends up to 16oz (from 13oz). This means a whole lot of pedals can ship at much lower prices.

Yeah I noticed that. In some ways the pricing is beneficial, but there's still a lot of sticker shock for international :( It was only a few years ago you could ship a 2oz package regular 1st Class almost anywhere for like $3 or $4.

At pin3 you have a 1M resistor going to virtual ground to supply the bias current to the op-amp. Your multimeter may be acting as a voltage divider when you measure the voltage with respect to actual ground causing the reading to seem lower. Try popping out the IC and re-measuring without a current load there. If the actual effect sounds right, I wouldn't worry about it.

Global Annoucements / 2016 Shipping Rates
January 19, 2016, 04:50:22 PM
USPS has unloaded their latest shipping rate increase.

Good News: For US customers, there is only a nominal price increase on 1st Class shipping.
Bad News: They have really f-d international 1st Class rates. 1st Class rates have doubled in some cases, no joke.

So, what I have done is increase the range of "Flats" shipments to keep small orders from costing an arm and leg to ship (Flats only have a nominal price increase like USA 1st Class). 1st Class international is now $13 (up from $6.50-9.00) and Canada is $9 (up from $7.00)! And the Priority shipping has gone way up too. $32 int'l and $24 Canada.

Please see the new rates I have posted on the Projects Page. For International and Canadian customers - if you have a big batch of boards you want to order, feel free to break it into two smaller orders if you can get the "Flats" rate to save some $$ on postage.
