Nah, never give up. It's just a problem to be solved one way or another (well, okay sometimes that includes tossing it and starting over but we aren't there yet).

At this point, considering how much trouble this particular build has caused two people, why not just send it to me to look at. Not something I generally do but my curiosity is piqued on this build and why it seems to be so problematic.

Maybe a pic of the topside of the PCB. Let's have a look at the parts.

I actually don't have a dev board.

I think a digital sub-forum is fine, with FV-1 being part of that. There may be some micro-controller stuff people want to share, too. It's something I will get into eventually once I dial start dialing down some of the analog project development. I'll add it to the forum soon.

Hmm, that's a tough one. If you are working on the Rev.0 board, did you omit R40 and R41?

Floor, it goes in C10. You can tell because it is drawn on the board as an electrolytic, whereas the other 1uF caps are drawn as film.

In the original Cave Dweller build doc, there is a second project called the Dub Edition which uses two PT2399s. I probably referred to it as Cave Dweller II at some point, though. There is a newer Cave Dweller design which I have finished but will not be released until May. It is not tap tempo. There is also a different project called the Cave Troll which is tap tempo, and will probably be released at the same time. I can see how this can be very confusing....too many word plays on the same names. In summary -  right now there is the original Cave Dweller (regular and dub ed) and soon there will be the Cave Dweller 2015 and the Cave Troll tap tempo delay. And, there are several other PT2399 delay projects on here, too.

Anyway, I don't have build docs for those newer designs. Build docs generally come right when the PCBs are released (or more often a day or two after).

No problem. I am spending all this week on the final builds. I would like to have the pre-orders ready this weekend, but it may be the first half of next week. I'll let you guys know when it's close to ready.

I've seen lockup happen when the rate gets too fast on the bulb and it cannot keep up. So, you can prevent that by increasing the value of the two stopper resistors on the speed pot. The default is 4k7, so if you have used a lower value increase them. You really should not have lock up if they are 4k7, so if that is the case you are going to have start looking at voltages and other debugging.

Possibly the other issue is not related to the resistors. It could be a burnt bulb.

Now the thing is I have no idea how to mod it for bass...

Tip #1: Increase your input and output caps to 1uF in you can fit them on the build.
Tip #2: If your build has a tone control, identify the cap used for the tone filter and double it or so.
Tip #3: Play guitar instead.

Okay, okay, I'm kidding with #3. I'm a certified bass player too. Really, I have a diploma or something. The first two suggestions get you most of the way there a lot of the time.
