Older versions of projects are linked in the current versions (unless I totally forget to).

Here is a direct link to the zip containing the older version: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/projects/Hipster/Hipster.zip

This thread = gold.

Agreed.  Any thread that gets compared to this is up against stiff competition.

True, but we should not be too hard on would-be competitors.

Any chance of a separate release of the OD section? It sounds quite interesting on its own.

I had not really thought about it, but if there is enough interest, sure. It would be very easy and quick to do a project for the OD section...perhaps with some tweaks for more gain, too.

Simple...these are my tweaks to the circuit.  :)

20n is not a common value. 47n is much more common, although a 22n is probably just as fine there.
R1 is a pulldown which is not needed on the TS because it is buffered bypass and the Green Bean is not.
47k for R7 is just a more common value than 51k. The difference between using the two values is negligible.
R21 is to prevent switch popping when going between the to caps on the Fat switch.
Again, 470k is a more common value than 510k and the end result of the difference in the two values is negligible.
The 100pF is more of a personal choice. It means a little more top end gets filtered when the gain is closer to max. I find it works better that way with the active tone control which itself is capable of producing some fairly shrill tones when it is boosted. The added capacitance in C3 helps tame that.
The VC voltage should be about 9v and the Vb voltage should be about 4.5v.

It sounds like it is not working quite right. It should not be subtle by any means (although one interesting thing I have noticed about Univibes is that if you play one for a while, your ear gets pretty used to it so it seems less intense than when you first turn it on).

Anyway, one thing you can do is decrease the value of R46. This was originally designated as 47k, and I have seen more than one schematic list it as such. But there does seem to be more of a consensus that it should be 4k7, which is the value listed in the BOM of the current release. That may increase the overall intensity for you. If it still is not working correctly then you might need to dig into checking voltages, trying different photocells, etc.

To increase the max speed, simply lower the values of R44 and R41. There are a couple of modern repo's that go down to 2k2 or 1k8. Just don't set it too low or the bulb may not be able to respond fast enough.

Try this: solder a wire to pin14 of IC5. Solder the other end to a 1k resistor. Solder the resistor to the + side of you LED. Solder the - side of the LED to ground (or a wire that is soldered to ground).

Bass players need lots of 1uF caps.

The fact that it detects chord changes and can follow is pretty mind blowing.

In 20 years we will have an A.I. version of this doing it all in real-time!

I will investigate more about the J112 and see if I can do a more available alternate. IIRC, I did try a 2n5457 but the results were better with the J112. But, it's not a huge deal...we are just talking about an LFO indicator light here.

The Shopping List showed (17) 1uF film caps for the Harbinger One. It is actually (13) 1uF film caps and (4) 1uF electrolytic caps. This has been corrected and the doc has been re-uploaded. Sorry for the mistake.

What's a laser wolf, I missed it and can't find it on the forum, mainly because I am out of town with only my iPhone.

Is there going to be a restock on the dirtbaby and moodring? I see they are both running low. I'm not worried about timetable I just need to be reassured that I will be able to get them in the future :o

Yes, of course. Not sure if that will be in early or late March batch, though. All the Asian board makers are now on the New Year holiday so things are taking longer anyway. I will update the Moodring and Dirtbaby once they are sold out.

I've been waiting for this board for weeks. Looks like I missed it.  :-\

Steve

Hold on Steve. I think we had one messed up transaction. I will look into it and verify the numbers. I think I can arrange a board for you.

Thanks, that was great. When he got chocked up near the end I was really taken by surprise. He's the real deal.
