Doesn't matter at all.

General Questions / Re: Standard Wiring Diagram?
November 29, 2014, 06:56:34 PM
On the pdf, the first one shows the most typical type of wiring I use for pedals. The illustration on the second page shows a way to wire positive ground effects like fuzzes. I guess I never labeled the second page. Time to update that doc anyway.

Sounds great! How well do the tweaks work for you? Enough bass response and upper mids for you?

The teaser is AWESOME. I love how the first shot tells how much this is not going to be like the prequels. It just looks like a lot of fun.

Never hurts to breadboard a problem area. That section would onlybtake a couple of minutes.

I used to really like Jazz IIIs, but once I got used to them I didn't feel as comfortable with larger picks, plus they aren't as good (for me) for strumming and sweeping.

Bass:  Fingers only.

x100. Using a pick on bass is like...well, I don't know what but it's wrong I tells ya! You get so much more sound out of finger playing. There is a certain type of bass line where a pick can be good like really driving 8th note stuff. But, I don't play no punk rock.

On the contrary, bordonbert, your ideas are most welcome and you should continue to throw them out here. I'm definitely of the camp that "component types" don't make much of a difference in a 9v or 18v circuit. My attitude has always been "just buy decent components and use what you've got" when it comes to building pedals. For a lot of people here, mojo is just a bit of a fun distraction and not taken very seriously. Actually, I'm getting even further away from that since I tend to want to use metal film resistors and low noise ICs in everything now. But, occasionally I'll stick a 1k carbon comp in a build just to make myself giggle.

Next batch, for sure. I'll get the final list of release dates up in a couple of days.

A non/bi polar cap is a better choice there and I should have noticed/mentioned that in the doc. I think I was just so used to seeing it a certain way that my brain shut off there. In any case, obviously an tant works but for the reasons mentioned above it is not a preferred choice from a stability perspective. I don't even think it should be a preferred choice in the Klon because the amount of signal feeding through that line is very low compared to the parallel gain stage.

I'll modify the doc to mention the change. Also, I have spent quite a bit of time with different IC's and I am also going to change the recommended one from TLC274 to TLC2264. The 274 has caused a few people some issues and the 2264 sounds great as a sub.

Man what a great collection!

I am kinda picky about plectrums but I don't spend oodles of money on them. Right now I'm really liking the JAZZIII XL Ultex, the MaxXGrip 1.14, and a Gravity pick. I have a fat V-Pick which I use occasionally. All of them sound completely different. I'd like to try other new ones out.

Global Annoucements / December PIF threads
November 25, 2014, 03:10:09 PM
Hey gang, like last year we will have a dedicated section for holiday PIFs for all members. This will be a separate section than the PIF area of the forum so that it does not get overwhelmed with holiday giveaways. Last year I did something like 21 PIFs myself. I don't know if I will have that much this time around but I'm betting I can come up with a lot.

Anyway, I will launch the holiday PIF thread on Dec.1 and it is open to all members to participate and give away their own PIFs, etc. There will be a couple of rules which I will post then.

I've mentioned this one over the years. Never let the two 9v battery leads come into contact with steel wool by accident. I caught it quick, luckily.

Or, in case of apocalypse, start a fire with a piece of paper, a 9v battery and steel wool.
