Same thing with the chorus on the ADA MP1. Turn it on but keep the depth to zero....fattens up the sound. I kinda miss my MP1 too. Ahh, the 90's.

Have you tried running the inverted op amp sequentially after the non-inverted, or are you running it in parallel?

Sorry, TL;DR all of your post so I'm just throwing that out there.

Two places to experiment: the 68n cap going into the gain part of the op-amp (IC 1) and also the 82 cap that sets the frequency rolloff of the gain (also IC1). These are the two areas for mods on the Sunking 2. The latter probably makes the bigger difference. Double the value, but don't make it too high (unless you wanna do it for bass).

Here is the Sunking 2 schematic (snippet) to help you out. BTW: I haven't finalized the values shown...gotta plug them into my proto and check them out. If you wanna go really far with it, you could use a pot to blend two cap values together (like the Timmy). In this case, I just went with a switch.

My first amp was also a Gorilla with chorus ('88 I think?). Great find!

Global Annoucements / Re: 2014 Shipping rates
January 16, 2014, 03:48:45 PM
I made an adjustment to the International Rates, bumping up the range for Flats shipping. So, the cut-off is $15.99 for Flats and above that is 1st Class. This means you get the cheapest shipping rate for any single PCB I carry other than the largest one, the ZPSDX (the one that's a problem shipping Flats). Hopefully, this does not cause too much grief for international customers. I hate changing the rates like this, but I also had more than twice as many shipments "go missing" last year than in 2012. I suspect that has to do with trying to get away with too much using the Flats method.

Here is the adjustment:

International Rates
Order Amount    Shipping
$0.01 - 15.99    $3.00 ("Flats")
$16 - 29.99    $6.50 (1st Class)
$30 - 74.99    $9.00 (1st Class)
$ 75 or more    $24 (Priority)

Please give any feedback you have to offer on the new rates. As my long time customers know, I'm pretty diligent about making sure I do not over-charge for shipping (not more than a few cents, at least, and that covers envelopes, software licensing for shipping, etc).

That really blows. Sorry to hear that. I have never found a good MN3205. MN3005, yes, but no luck at all with the 3205.

Mods / Re: Looking For Ideas...

Sure, for the Smoothie you can change the filtering caps for a psuedo-univibe feel. Change C5 to 100n from 10n.

I don't remember off-hand any mods on the Afterlife, but maybe do a search on the forum or on DIYSB for the Flatline. One thing you could do is increase the value of R3 and put a couple of soft clipping diodes back to back in parallel with it. This would make a very light overdrive with the compression. Or, maybe have a switch to go between the stock 220k and other stuff. Probably a 1M resistor plus 1n914 for the diodes. Just thinking out loud...haven't tried this. Also, you should be able to modify the compression response by tweaking R6 or R7 upward.

Open Discussion / Re: Need help "softening" the wah
January 12, 2014, 07:56:23 PM
Sorry...I was eating. You should raise the resistor, not lower it. My bad.

As far as the noise, lowering the gain will mitigate that issue somewhat when you rock the wah. But, never completely. You will probably hear some "swishing" regardless. Any noise whatsoever in the pedal is being amplified and then frequency swept as the wah is adjusted.

You could probably take further steps such as replacing transistors and/or using metal film resistors. But, do step one first (lower the gain) then see where you are at.

Sounds like a bypass problem. Also, sounds like it has too much gain, IOW the emitter resistor off Q1 needs to be lowered.

Open Discussion / Hand torch
January 12, 2014, 07:26:54 PM
I recently acquired a handheld torch for some plumbing repairs I did not end up doing. Has anyone here ever used a torch (fire torch for you Brits, not a flashlight) on a painted enclosure? If so, what were your results? I have an old one I might light up.

Man, if I only had the time....I would take classes in auto repair, plumbing and electrical work. I would love to know how to do this stuff with a more sturdy background.

We have a double garage, but of course every time I clean it out the wife fills it up with something~!

There's plenty of well detailed tutorial of all that stuff on youtube or other internet site, when i've got something to do that i'm not sure about i always do a quick search on my phone and the info is revealed :)

Oh yeah, I know. I guess my point was it would be nice to have a base of knowledge to draw upon, rather than having to go straight to the tutorial video thing. But yeah, there is a ton of great info out there.

Global Annoucements / 2014 Shipping rates - UPDATED
January 12, 2014, 05:31:03 PM
There are some adjustments to the shipping rates for 2014 effective today. These may change in another month or two depending on how the rates work out at USPS or if I find a way to tweak things better.

Highlights:
Free 1st Class shipping on all US orders over $50. Priority shipping is now an option for $5.35.
Canadian shipping now has its own rates.
International shipping: price has gone down for small orders, and up for larger orders. This is reflective of different shipping classifications, not an increase in my shipping prices (if you want to split hairs). So, orders $15 or more will automatically go 1st Class, which has a higher postage rate than Flats. Hopefully this makes sense. Also, international customers - feel free to break your orders into two if you think it will save you shipping. I'm totally fine with this so long as you are fine with two separate packages.

Please let me know if there are any questions.
