Excellent news!!

Just curiously, are there plenty of Harbingers left?

I have just under 30 of those left. That should last through the first couple of days of the sale, including the lead in time of this coming week. I wish I had the ability to display stock #'s on the website.

You can use a 1N4001 there. Voltage drop is a little higher, but I don't think it will have much impact, if any, on the actual wah operation/tone. You can always jumper it out if you want. Just be careful about using the correct negative tip power supply.

The Space Station is the bomb. I have a lot of fun with it. It brings back lots of memories for me. There was a band I used to see all the time in Dallas called Chomsky and Glen, the guitar player, used the Space Station. Lots of good settings on the Whammy too.

Any chance there will be any dirtbags on the next order?

Yes, that's a possibility. That reminds me: I need to respond to your PM. I will do that ASAP.

Global Annoucements / Fall Sale coming
October 07, 2013, 05:55:26 PM
There will be a store-wide sale on PCBs once the latest PCB re-stocks arrive. I don't have an exact date on when the sale will start, but it will probably be in about 10 days and the sale will run for a few days after. Unfortunately, there are no new projects in the upcoming batch, but believe me there are plenty near completion. I have about 10 new projects that I'm in the process of finishing...all prototyped, being debugged, revised, etc. So, you can expect those to start dropping in November.

Yup, try different diodes  ???

General Questions / Re: Jumpering Questin

For future reference: in any build doc I produce, omit means leave off completely. Only jumper a component if it is explicitly stated.

Omit = leave empty. Never jumper a power cap. That'll just send your supply to ground.

I've tested a 1-spot with the Harbinger and it works very well with no noise.

I've looked over your resistor values and they seem correct from the parts that are visible. Those BAT41 diodes are a bit different looking than I'm used to. Where did you get them? Have you tried using something else there...say 1n914?

Have you checked to see if you have +/-9v going to the IC?

I actually like the concept a lot---a Dali Strat :)

But, the string action looks to be about 2 inches!

Sockets are a matter of personal choice, so this is assumed in listing the BOM. Really, there is almost never a reason NOT to use sockets, and you can get them for about $.01 or .02 each from Tayda. I buy by the hundreds usually.

You will have difficulty using a very large lamp IF you want to use a 1590BB. I suggest going with the "Tall" version of the 1590BB in that case. It will afford all the extra room you need.

Great to hear you've got it working! It is rewarding to stick with something, even when you want to chuck it...believe me I can empathize.

As far as clock noise- you should be able to dial it out with the clock trimmer. It is set too high. If that doesn't do it, try 47pF for C18 (if it is easy for you to do). Lastly, check that your wires are not crossing paths over the LM311, 4013 and 4049.

On issue 1: does that happen on all of the switch settings, or only when all the clipping diodes are lifted? The motorboating will happen on high gain and volume settings with all diodes lifted (I think I mention this in the doc...for sure on the forum). But, it should not with either or both sets of diodes active.

On issue 2: I'd have to hear a sample of what you are talking about. There's not enough info to go on for me.

It's possible both issues are related.

It's unfortunate, but the situation we have to deal with. We love those through hole JFETS for guitar pedals, but it will get increasingly difficult to get them in quantity cheaply. Eventually, we'll have to go surface mount if we want to use them.

The buffer vs. true bypass will not effect the overall volume output, so that is not the issue. You need to check your "gain setting" resistors. If you used an incorrect value that could lower the output significantly.

Double check these values: R9, R10, R11, R15, R19, R22.

Also, make sure you aren't using 56k or 560k on R24 instead of 560R.

If these all check out, then you may need to audio probe the outputs of the ICs to see where the volume is dropping off. This would be pin8, 14, 7 and 1 in that order (of the quad amp, not the charge pump).
