Just saw the document! Thanks MB! So for the Micro Zero Point, the Depth mod. With the depth all the way down, will you hear any modulation in its stock form?

It would be great to use the Depth mod, but being able to "turn off modulation" by dialing down the Depth pot.

If you use a 1M pot for the Depth and a sufficiently large enough value for R19, the modulation will be pretty negligible at the minimum setting. I would use probably 220k or more for R19 in that case. Maybe 470k.

The "DD" doc is up, too. And please remember to refresh the page to see the link.

Maybe, but maybe not. While the pin spacing is 2.5mm, that is also the component spacing. IOW--your WIMAS may be 2.5mm on the leads, but the bodies are wider, correct? This means they may not fit side by side, but  I won't say for sure.

You should be able to use them for the other values/places up to 100n. But, any 1uF caps there should probably be MLCC.

Just take a look at the pic of the board to get an idea of how tight it is:

General Questions / Re: Boneyard II
January 24, 2013, 03:33:03 PM
It's the same idea, but it is not a clone. I don't know what they have done for the single channel version. The BoneyardII has the same core circuit as the Boneyard, but it adds an input buffer to reduce the problem of oscillation. You can also wire it for either True Bypass or buffered output and there is a mod which also adds just a touch of the buffered clean signal mixed to the distortion output which sounds awesome. It has some value changes which I think make it even better sounding, too. Lastly, it may run off +/-12v internally instead of +/-9v. I haven't made a final decision on this.

Actually, the only thing holding this one up is a bit of a pop in buffer mode which I can't seemed to get rid of yet.

I'm still working on this but will have something up by tonight. I made a couple last minute changes on the BOM to improve the input/output sections, so that took a bit of time today in the workshop. The delays are sounding great! I know people are going to dig them.

I will update here once I start posting the docs.

I also plan on doing a full pictorial type tutorial on building the ZPSDX. Considering the complexity I think it would be helpful. That will happen as the week goes on. Lastly, I will get demos done for the guys and up on youTube.

Ha ha, sure. I like black and grey. No Cosby sweaters.

Currently I have a Timeline, and it seems my Mobius will never ship. But I'm curious to give it a go once I get it.

I would like to take a more permissive attitude toward the use of madbeanpedals PCBs and projects. Most of you already know that in the first couple years of operation, I took a fairly strict "DIY USE ONLY" approach to licensing. With the more recent project releases the license agreement has been stated as the following:

[xxx] PCBs purchased from madbeanpedals may be used for small quantities of commercial pedal building (keep in mind that bulk discounting on PCBs is not offered). You may not, however, offer [these] PCBs for commercial resale (re-distribution) or as part of a "kit".

So, I would like to extend this to all the current PCBs offered for sale in the store. What does this mean?

Any PCB that is currently listed on the projects page can be used for your own commercial endeavors. This means PCBs purchased from the store, AND/OR made from the etching artwork in the documents (if available) can be used in your own pedals you make specifically for the purpose of selling. So, if you want to build some Big Muffs for sale and use the Mudbunny PCB (whether you buy them from me or etch your own from the artwork) that is totally okay. You do not need to credit me, or offer any compensation for this....EVEN WHEN USING THE ETCHABLE ARTWORK. Same with the Zero Points, Low Riders, fuzzes, etc. You know what I mean  ;)

Again, this has already been the case for the more recent projects, but I never "officially" extended it to all the current PCBs.

Two caveats: the "redistribution/kit" contingency is still in effect, so please do not make a ton of etched Mudbunnies and sell the PCBs on your own, or sell them as part of a kit. This is the only way madbeanpedals could be seriously damaged. And, this does not extend to the discontinued projects i.e., the "boutique" clones I no longer offer like the zVex clones, Klon, etc, blah blah. If you have any questions on particulars, just email or PM me.

Beyond that, it's up to you guys how you want to use them. Start a little pedal company, use some of these designs to get you going, and then hopefully branch out into your own designs/layouts, etc. Whatever you want to do!

Lastly, if you are using the MBP PCB's to sell your own pedals, it is a good idea (and my preference) that you do not use the same project name. For example, if you want to sell some Kingslayer builds, use a different name. The only reason for this is brand distinction....so that your customers don't think it is something I built (probably more applicable on re-sale or used, but you get the idea).

Beyond that it is only up to your imagination. I realize I'm a bit behind in terms of "licensing" compared to other people doing this kind of thing, so now it is time for an evolution. I want to continue to encourage and help you guys in whatever way I can in making your own path...whether that is a hobbyist, pedal maker, or whatever. Because that is what you have helped me do as well!

Feel free to ask particulars in this thread too, if you have questions.

Thanks!

The nice thing about playing with the same guys for 20 years is you fall right into step with one another, even after a long break. We hadn't played as a "band" in nearly 5, but really after a little warm-up it's just like putting on your favorite set of clothes. Plus, we keep our egos in check! We take suggestions easily from one another...and don't take it personally when someone says "play less", ha ha.

Couple other things I thought of:

The LowRider does a pretty good approximation of an organ. I used it to fill in for a keyboard part with the down octave fully up, 2nd low octave and upper octave about 1/3rd up and some delay. It sounded so, so huge playing the keyboard part.

One issue I found with the AC15: we discovered that when I play an open E minor chord it would produce a low rattle or rapid vibrato kind of sound. But, only when the 3rd and 4th strings were played together and only that chord. Really weird, like some resonance shaking a power tube or something. Gotta figure out how to fix that!

Also, my $300 Agile Harm is quite a great guitar I found! The pickups are not the best, but it has got a lot of chunky low end in it.

I will check. I'll update the ordering page as well. I know it was getting low, but I usually under-count the stock on purpose.

Yes, the three standard controls plus modulation. The modulation can be dealt with in a couple of ways. The depth is fixed at what I felt like was a fairly minimal and musical setting. Then you have the option of fixed rate and a switch to turn the modulation on and off, or have the modulation on all the time and variable depth. Obviously, if you put it in a larger enclosure you can use both options, but in a 1590A that's probably s far as you want to take it.

The actual delay is pretty close to the Sea Urchin, but the input/output sections are different. The delay voicing is the same.

I will be including a chart in all the Zero Point docs that compares the features of each project so there won't be any confusion.

Global Annoucements / Jan. Session Wrap-Up

So, we had an extremely productive recording session. We went in the studio for three days hoping to finish a 6 song EP, and we ended up with an 11 song album. Far more than we could have imagined. We ended up tracking some alternate demos and wrote a couple of new songs while we were there. Plus, we got some incredible sounds happening, esp. on the drums and guitars.

I learned a really important lesson here in that I don't need as much gear as I think I do. Through the whole session I used mostly a mix of the Timeline and Echo Base (both have tap tempo). I took other delays but those covered all the ground I needed. A couple of tunes I used the FatPants and on one I used the Low Rider which sounded so, so fat. I did not use any overdrive or distortion. Between that and four guitars and a baritone I managed to get a great range of tones. It's really got me thinking about how to maximize flexibility and minimize my rig at the same time. I would have used the Sub Mini Rump Roast or Kingslayer but both acted up at the studio and could not be used.

All in all, it was a great time. Very relaxed atmosphere with my best friends and a chance to get away for a few days. Kinda like the fishing trip you would take with your buddies except you make a record instead. It helps that the studio is owned by the other guitar player's parents so there is no pressure. I'm a lucky dude!
