When you have the booster in front of the vibe, it only oscillates when the fuzz is on?

Buck, have you tried audio probing to see where exactly the clipping is introduced? Specifically, I'd look at pin1 and pin7 of IC1, and also the junction of R15/R16/R17.

Bitchin' find. Thanks for this.

1) Separate supply rails is a pretty common way to reduce noise in a circuit. Given that this is a high gain overdrive, my guess is the inverter is supplied this way for that reason. Note that the voltage drop is very very small across a tiny resistor, so it's not so much a matter of different voltages, but unique supply lines, I think.

2) There is probably no difference between tying the unused pins to ground or virtual ground. It is not buffering the VB supply in this case.

3) From what I remember there is little difference in tying those un-used pins between ground and VR. Check FSB for a thread on the Red Llama re-issue which discusses this very topic.

Meh, I would not assume so. Maybe a gut shot would prove otherwise. Can't say 100% for sure I am the only one to split those controls like that.

Build Reports / Re: Tweak Tone Delay

I bought my Stazon at either Micheal's or Hobby Lobby. Can't remember.

10n is fine there. You could probably go as low as 4n7.

General Questions / Re: EgoDriver Issue

You should be reading 9v on pin8, 0v on pin4, 4.5v on pins 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and between 3.5-4.5v on pin3.

Okay, no signal in pin7 of IC4 is the beginning of the problem. You need to check the audio path to see where the signal drops off.

Start here:
pin1 IC1
pin6 IC2
R13
pins7 IC6

Do you have audio at pin7 of IC4 - the input to the first BBD?
Are you sure your MN3005 are good?
What values did you use for R11 and R12? If you are running it at 9v, you may need to lower the values.

Very clever. Generally, I'm in favor of keeping pots underneath the PCB because it provides support (if you use 3M foam tape like me) but there's a lot to be said for top mounted jacks, too. Even a small piece of foam under the PCB set up like this would probably go a long way to prevent the solder joints on the pots from weakening with abuse. Great work on fitting all that in there!

Requests / Re: Request: BL3208-based delay
August 04, 2012, 09:01:11 PM
I've got a DM-2 built up with 2x 3208s. There is a problem with it though that I have not been able to solve. The expandor portion is not operating correctly and killing the delay signal with much prejudice. So far I have not figured out why---I don't think it has anything to do with the different BBDs.

Point is, I can't intelligently comment yet on the differences between that and the v3205. I am less inclined to do a hybrid digital/analog at this point, mostly because I have at least three or four more unreleased delay ideas I'm still in the process of finalizing.

Global Annoucements / Dscontinued Projects
August 04, 2012, 03:36:13 PM
I failed to mention that the Discontinued Projects are still linked on the forum, but were moved to a sub-forum part. Here they are: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=5134.0

This is a temporary thing....I will be reloading all the projects on the Projects Page once I get the website re-design completed. I will be going through each project to update it to the current format so there is consistency across all of them. They were taken off the Projects Page a couple of months ago because 1) it was getting really really crowded on there and 2) too many emails asking about PCBs for projects I don't offer any longer.

On the new website, the delineation between DIY projects and PCBs for sale will be much clearer which should fix the problem.

They are finicky devices. Glad you got it worked out.

People who bang on walls because they think you are being too loud are not likely to be too reasonable in my experience. I had a similar situation once with a crazy neighbor who would stomp on the floor at the slightest disturbance. Fortunately she finally got kicked out for never paying her rent.

The only advice I can offer is to try and talk to the person first to work out a solution. Then if the behavior continues file a police report stating that the person is harassing you. Write down the time and date of every instance they bang on the wall and include that in the report. Also include the steps you have taken to try and prevent disturbing your neighbor including restricting the volume, the hours you play and attempting to talk to them to work out a solution. That sets a precedent so that if the situation continues to escalate you are essentially covered if you call the police at a later time.
