Mods / Re: Changing Dirtbag LFO

The easiest thing you could do is replace R53 with a pot for a speed control. Use a 1MC. Wire lug3 to one pad of R53. Solder a resistor between lugs 2 and 1 (4k7 should do it) then wire lug1 to the other pad of R53. The resistor sets the maximum speed of the LFO.

Okay, try this instead: remove D2 from the PCB and put a jumper in its place. Now put D2 (or another 1n914 or 4148) between pin1 and pin8 of IC4 on the bottom of the PCB as illustrated below in orange. This will set the Clock at the same voltage as the BBD and change the Vgg voltage to about 14/15 of the Vd supply.

If that doesn't work, it may be a bum BBD.

Take some voltage readings on the BBD and clock and I may be able to suggest something.

Have you tried the MN3205 in any other circuit? The indent and lettering look a little suspicious to me, but it's hard to say.

Yes, it will be released this year for sure. I will get back to it really soon, actually.

You are getting clock signal. 10kHz would be correct depending on where the clock trimmer is at. If setting the clock trim at the halfway mark and adjusting the bias trim does not give you any delayed output then there are two possibilities. 1- bad chip 2-some other problem like a solder bridge at the outputs, etc.

If you feel #2 is not the case I'd say see if you can get a replacement. For me, I have a DM-2 build that I keep around just for the purpose of testing BBDs. It's one that I know works perfectly so if I have a questionable chip, I just toss it in there and bias it up. Of course, that's not necessarily the most efficient or practical way to do it, but it is very convenient :)

I've never done UV exposure on PCBs but if it works then that's genius.

It is 2.6" W x 3.2" H.

This actually looks legit. Some of them have indented borders, but I have some without them. This doesn't mean it isn't fake, though.

But, you are hearing some output at pins 3 and 4, correct? Even if it is noise, a fake chip would not produce any output at all I'm guessing.

Do have the ability to measure clock frequency on pins 2 and 6? If not, what about audio probing---do you get a high pitched whine at those points?
#5485
Noise does tend to go hand in hand with this one. But, are you getting the FF sound, too?
#5486
Can you take a pic of the MN3005? One that shows the top and pins? I might be able to tell you if it is fake.

Did you mention what transistors you used?

Welcome to marriage, the wonderful world of compromise. :)

(I mean that in a good way)

And sometimes total secession of control, ha ha.

Congratulations and best of luck in your marriage!

Good for you. Been there, done that. It only gets better from here my friend.

Same thing here. Placed an order on Sunday, shipped Monday with the 5.99 USPS shipping. It's mostly resistors, but what the hell---24 hour turn-around makes it worth it to me.
