Build Reports / Re: Zappagizer *demo added
March 25, 2012, 02:02:48 AM
Great mod! Wish I had thought of that myself :)

Kind of a stumper. Resistor values are correct. Caps have been turned around. Diode looks right. Transistors look to be put in the right way due to the way the leads are spread. Doesn't leave much else other than a proper positive ground supply and fully functioning transistors.  ???

I actually have little PCB to use either a 3PDT or 4PDT (with LEDs) designed for order switching, FYI. It won't be available this time around, but if there is enough interest it's something I could do next time for cheap.

CherryBomb and Mudbunny docs have been updated.

Cool, yeah let us know (in a few weeks) how it turns out with the J201!
#5706
The Smoothie actually lists 2N5457 as the default transistor, not the 2N5952. Fortunately, the J201 has the same pinout as the 2N5457. I have not built a Phase45 with J201, but I don't know that it WON'T work, either. You might check DIYSB---I bet someone there has reported on using J201 at some point. Vgs is rated differently between the two devices, FWIW.

I agree you shouldn't strive to build your entire company off someone else's work but selling a few to get yourself up and off the ground isn't a horrible thing.

Pretty much this. Since writing down my initial thoughts a couple of weeks ago, I decided to lighten up a little bit. Anyone who has seen the documents for the new Baby Board projects will notice this:

Baby Board Licensing
Baby Board PCBs purchased from madbeanpedals may be used for small quantities of commercial pedal building (keep in mind that bulk discounting on PCBs is not offered).

Hopefully this will help some of you out that want to "get off the ground" like bigmufffuzzywickleman mentioned. So, if some of you want to dip your toe into the shitstorm that is pedal manufacturing, these may offer you a leg up :)

The Baby Board docs are all up. I will also be doing a general build/ordering guide for the Baby Boards that will cover the types of components that should be used. I should have that completed tomorrow. Other docs will go up as I knock them out.

Mods / Re: lavache with no boost?
March 21, 2012, 08:56:33 PM
If you want to leave the boost "always on" then use a jumper for R5 instead of the 3M3 resistor. Leave the Boost pads empty.

If you want the boost always off, leave off R5 AND C2 and do not use any jumpers.

It's normal. The Fuzz Face does not have a lot of output. You can increase the volume output some by changing the 470R resistor to 1k or 1k2. Most people just leave the volume knob all the way up.

Man I cannot wait! Of course, "SyFy" will cancel it after one season, but still.

Trailer is double plus great plus Bear McCreary is doing the music for the pilot!

Global Annoucements / Hipster - last minute change
March 21, 2012, 12:55:12 PM
After uploading the Hipster doc last night, I decided I was really bothered that I left of a Bias trimpot for Q2. So, I went ahead and made a last minute revision to the layout to include the trimpot. If you downloaded the doc last night, toss that and grab the revised version.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: Poindexter problem
March 20, 2012, 01:28:20 PM
To further expand on mgwhit's post: remove the circuit completely from the enclosure with the pots. Get the bypass working in the box with the jacks and switch and the LED. Test the circuit outside the box to make sure the actual build is also working. Put it back together. If it still does not work you know it's got to be the wiring or some piece of hardware that's causing the issue.

I'm working on the Baby Board documentation right now, so I will start uploading them probably today. I decided to take the next week or so off from project development so I can get all the docs done and finish boxing up some builds and doing demos.

Couple quick answers
The compressor does not have a clean blend. It's basically the Flatline.
The Booster is not based on anything specific, but it's not too far off from a Micro-Amp. It's a very simple buffer then boost run off a split rail supply. I really really like the booster, so I will for sure get the demo done on that ASAP.
